Youre born, live a life, then die

>youre born, live a life, then die
>BUT WHATS THE MEANINGG REEEE
Why do you think theres meaning? Its like asking whats the "meaning" of the color blue.

There is no meaning, it just is.

The color blue means that you're observing light with a wavelength between 450 and 495 nanometres

It also means cold.

Checkmate, atheists.

Thats not what it means, thats what it is. Thats akin to saying the meaning of life is metabolism

You want us to adopt your shit worldview that has led you to the conclusion that you are a meaningless random accident with no purpose in life?

Pass.

Theres no point to anything.

When you die, you're going to rot in the ground and maggots will eat your flesh until there's nothing left.

Then, depending on how many people you know, in 50 to 75 years, nobody will ever know that you even existed.

...

Yes, I've heard your shit worldview, and passed on it.

You can keep it if you'd like.

It sucks and it's killing you, but you can keep it.

I agree with you OP.

First path to existentially accept death, is to realize that it is meaningless to question fundamental facts of existence like death. Belief in the afterlife is the convenient path.

>i'd rather preten d theres a point and live in a fairy-tale land full of shit I made up that makes me worth something

The Buddha has said that all life is suffering.
Pretending it isnt doesnt fix anything.

the color blue has no intentions or goals, so it has no meaning in itself or by itself. The color blue can have many meanings for different people since they have different experiences/memories/associations with the color blue.

Humans have intentions, fears, goals and motivations. When we ask "what is the meaning of life" we are actually asking about our origin and purpose, who made us and what for? ... or more speifically: "what is the purpose of my life, how should I live and what should I ultimately strive for, and how will my choices carry on after I die, and what happens to me after I die?" etc....

It's the most important type of question a person can ask as long as they unpack it and ask it diligently.

What is the meaning? It is just the code question for people who want someone to spoon feed them what they should do with their life, such people generally lack comprehension of the world or the motivation to do something. Simply put, they lack desired conclusions in their actions.

>The Buddha has said that all life is suffering.
>all life is suffering

he didn't say that, he said there is suffering/dissatisfaction in life but he also said there is a way to be satisfied and truly happy in life, so it can't all be negative.

Also the question of ultimate meaning and the problems associated with relative suffering are not the same. Life can have meaning and still have tons of suffering, they aren't mutually exclusive things.

There is no point in denying reality. People die and rot in the ground or if they are lucky enough buried in some other way like cremation or in space.

Your life ends like any book, good or bad and how it would influence the world is only for you to decide as you are the author of your life in the end.

are you 12

It is clear that he isn't as actual 12 years olds are desu vault LARPers.

Well, yeah, if you're a nihilist.

Even so, there's no evidence rejecting the existence of "meaning". It's just unobservable. And before you hack at that with externalism, let me remind you that concepts such as truth and relativism aren't observable things, rather, prepositions, unless you're someone who likes truth tokens.

How would you live without ascribing meaning to something? The most nihilistic nihilist still ascribes some meaning to life, even if he screams or knows consciously that there is no meaning.

> The most nihilistic nihilist still ascribes some meaning to life
Not necessary and there is zero way to know for sure about it.

Sure but no need to be a bitch about it. It's not like anybody else gets more or less than exactly what you described.

Go read house of god by Samuel Shem.

Find your own meaning motherfucker.

Pizza tastes fucking awesome, porn is great, guns are fun as hell to shoot and there's a man I love with all of my heart. Life's about doing rad shit that makes you happy, and not getting in the way of other people being happy.

The most nihilistic nihilist would mean, at least, to my view, someone who would in essence do nothing, as there is no meaning to anything. This person, to our knowledge, probably doesn't exist, and if he or she does, will probably be dead very soon, so anyone who is living will likely ascribe some meaning to it. Even if say, you were living because it was in your nature, you're ascribing some meaning to your living (i.e. it is in your nature).

Just because we don't know doesn't mean there isn't one, and theologians and existentialists would come out of the woodwork to argue with you on that.

>The color blue means that you're observing light with a wavelength between 450 and 495 nanometres

>It sucks and it's killing you, but you can keep it.
projecting this muuch. it's like you cling to your fantasy because you scared of the truth

>Pizza tastes fucking awesome, porn is great, guns are fun as hell to shoot and there's a man I love with all of my heart. Life's about doing rad shit that makes you happy, and not getting in the way of other people being happy.
this
hedonists love sensuality and then they whine and whine once they lose their pleasure and the best part is that they think that they cannot stop being hedonist

> who would, in essence, do nothing
You don't need to have a meaning to do anything. Meaning is somewhat a high concept, it helps to organize our activity, but in the end, people are very prone to do thigs that are meaningless even from their own point of view. Over generalization of meaning really hurts the concept itself.

> once they lose their pleasure
You can't really lose pleasure, excluding death and situations of permanent suffering when everyone would abandon whatever set of illusory believes they are claimed before.

>you're going to rot in the ground and maggots will eat your flesh until there's nothing left

Why do you say like this is such a bad thing? Your broken non-functional body can still grant life and nourishment to other organisms.

>Then, depending on how many people you know, in 50 to 75 years, nobody will ever know that you even existed.

Says the pathetic child who has resigned to fate. Go out there and make something of yourself. Make an impact on the larger world. Fuck someone, have a kid or two and pass on those genes of yours.

>B-but we're nothing but specks on a speck drifting in space

No shit. But who gives a fuck about galaxies trillions and trillions of light years away? I don't need to prove my worth to them because I don't give a shit about them. I give a shit about the little speck of a speck drifting in space because I'm not a pussy who wallows in his lack of self worth.

>he didn't say that

Have you ever even Buddhismed?

>he didn't say that
Nigger it's literally the First Noble Truth of, one of the founding tenets of the religion. Fuck off you pseud.

Someone just took an existentialism course I see.

How cute.

there is no meaning, but both happiness and suffering are real things as we feel their effects directly.
do not complain about things not being more than they are to you, but rather try to cultivate what you already have and try to make a non-existant thing such as a deeper meaning obsolete.

>It sucks and it's killing you
so are you saying that if I believe in god I'll never die?

Space isn't blue
Checkmate, colorists

& Humanites was a fucking mistake.

>Space isn't blue
Yes it is

only the atmosphere of the earth is "blue"

You're going to have to create your own meaning to live or kill yourself, one or the other will eventually come. Camus knew that, Neetcha knew that.

A really practical kinda silly way I've come to think about it is that imagine you're on the titanic and you KNOW that you're gonna hit an iceberg at some point but there's no way to stop it and warning people makes you look like a loon.

What do you do?
Do you jump off the edge to not delay the inevitable?
Do you fuck the shit out of Rose?
Do you join the violinists and learn to play?
Do you the inner pipe system of the ship to make the voyage smoother?
Maybe you're really stubborn and you think there's a possibility to escape the ship so you create a super raft (shoutsout to musk)

My only personal advice would be to try find something that you enjoy doing and people enjoy having you do. That's the sweet spot for all those good feel feels.

Meaning is an applied definition that we create when we interact with an object (note that an object can be an abstraction, it doesn't need to be a literal thing)

The problem we have is temporality in our own lives when it comes to applying meaning to ourselves and our lives. Unlike a chair which has set boundaries, we think of ourselves in our possibilities and limit our ability to give ourselves meaning. It is easy to give meaning to a man who has always painted, he is a painter and his meaning is to paint. Unfortunately for us and the painter his life is not over and he has all the possibility in the world to become something other than a painter, i.e. his life's meaning is not set in stone.

The open ended freedom that humans encompass is the source of our struggle with meaning. People will often try to avoid this freedom by creating reasons to avoid their freedom. Either steeping themselves in tradition or removing their own agency in their actions. When you dumb down your ability to act as an individual and take on a role with no expectation of ever leaving it, meaning in life is quite easy to find.
