Best Games of History

I'm addicted to this 4000 + year old game from Sumer.

It's called the Game of Ur.

Post your fav historical game.

I've actually made a board of that and have played it during game nights with friends. It's a lot of fun and can get surprisingly tense.

What is it like ?

Senet.

The royal game of ur can be played at the link provided, it's suprisingly fun.

this isn't the ransomware virus is it

I'd have better luck posting porn.
If you'd like to play it safe just google the royal game of ur and the link I provided should be there.
You can also watch tom scott play it on youtube vs the guy who translated the rules.

It works
the game made me butthurt though, lucky fuckign computer rolls
horseshit

o thx, it wasn't a virus and it was quite a fun game blending strategy with chance

there is a 6/16 chance of getting 2 and a 4/16 chance of getting 1 or 3, so try to keep away from being 2 in front of an enemy

fill the first 4 squares with pieces then when you can land on the first flower send pieces out into the central runway so they get a head start, then make a b-line for the end

if you land on the flower on the runway leave the piece there so it can sit and wait to ambush an enemy, doing so is very cost effective in terms of robbing your enemy of moves

Diplomacy.

Way more recente than that, but played by JFK and Kissinger.

Latrunculi is like the Metal Gear Solid of ancient board games.

I dunno, is riichi mahjong historical?

Mahjong started out as card games from the Ming and Qing dynasty until they became tiles in games played in Coastal China.

Since the tile sets were pretty elaborate art pieces at the time, they became tiles.

Fun game.

tried playing with my housemate today, was shit. made me feel embarrassed for getting him to play

strip poker

clutch af

a bit like backgammon but with slightly more chance

My man!
Diplomacy is a lot of fun, I just have trouble getting enough players so I can force some one to play as Austro-Hungary.

Definitely Senet. The late game can get really fucking heated.
Apparently it began as a purely abstract game that gradually took on a religious theme over the ages.

Tarot

The survivng decks from the 15th century are beautiful.

Shame it was memed to death by occultists.

Backgammon masterrace reporting in.

I'm a fan of go. I'm not too good at it, but it's really fun.

>just rolled 3 0s in a row
literal 1/4096 chance, just fuck my shit up senpai

Do what I do, play online. I like webDiplomacy.

It helps you not playing with the same people too often. That can become stale.

Hnefatafl
Viking "chess" with a twist : the sides are asymmetrical and are thought to simulate an ambush of a raiding party.

i'm so bad at this game, both offense and defense.
really neat concept though.

quite a good game
we should really bring it back

dota

those computer rolls are fucking retarded indeed. holy shit.

Doesn't work if you;re playing online imo, you can't read the other players and don't know how to manipulate them like you would irl with your real friends.

Fidchell or gwyddbwyll, an ancient Celtic board game that plays like Hnefatafl and is the ancestor of the better known Viking game.

Greetings from /meso/

As far as games that require more than two players, is this even a question?

>5v5 Chess match where you are the piece in the game
>NPC's are the pawns
>Good fucking luck nerd, get ready to lose

Fuck off back to /v/ you mouthbreathing kike fondler. This thread is for HISTORICAL games.

The three dudes in white look steamed as fuck.

man that games fun, but there has to be a modifier in there for the computer I dont know how many times Ive seen them roll fours in a row then knock my guys out

Random number generators aren't random.

I learn over chat (public + private/1-on-1) and study their old games, looking for patterns. I play slow games, tho. Usually over 2-3 weeks.

The game used to be played by post, with a GM, so it converts easily to online.

Did you watch that anime about Go?
Hikaru no Go or something?
Pretty decent to watch.
