>Cambodians were expected to produce three tons of rice per hectare; before the Khmer Rouge era, the average was only one ton per hectare. The total lack of agricultural knowledge by the former city dwellers made famine inevitable. >Such acts as picking wild fruit or berries were seen as "private enterprise" and punished by death >They did not believe in Western medicine but turned to traditional medicine instead >Commercial fishing was banned by the Khmer Rouge in 1976,[47] resulting in a loss of primary food sources for millions of Cambodians, 80% of whom rely on fish as their only source of animal protein >Money was abolished >People who they perceived as intellectuals or even those who had stereotypical signs of learning, such as glasses, would also be killed. >Family relationships not sanctioned by the state were also banned, and family members could be put to death for communicating with each other. Married couples were only allowed to visit each other on a limited basis. If people were seen being engaged in sexual activity, they would be killed immediately > People were not allowed to eat in privacy >All personal utensils were banned, and people were given only one spoon to eat with
What the fuck was his problem?

Americans bombed the rural eastern Cambodia back to stoneage. It wasn't hard to recruit uneducated people from those regions to fight "capitalism" or "the elite".

Looking at the world, and thinking what has caused countries to go and have a communist revolution, very often a bloody one. Since we're in Southeast Asia, let's look at communist indochina. All three, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos had their messed up version of communist revolution. All these countries we're colonized by France. Their neighbouring country, Thailand, never implemented communism or had a revolution in the name of communism/socialism. But they also didn't have any western imperialists to get rid off. Or they didn't have that situation that would breed fanatic, angry revolutionaries.
The misery caused by Khmer Rouge, is only communists fault, and those stupid citizens that allowed that to happen, the same who allowed themselves be colonized. Oh please, things are never so black and white.

>not real communism meme What living in the woods like savages has to do with socialism or communism, retard. It's the same logic idiots use to call Nazi germany socialist because muh NSDAP

What is it with shitty communist despots and an obsession with agrarian societies? Stalin was terrible, sure, but at least he realized industry was necessary to modern survival. Why did Mao and Pol Pot jerk themselves off to farmers so much? Was it just autism?

True communism Most equal society possible, nobody owns the means of production. Resetting the clock. No hierarchy, not even family. No cuckoldry because there's no love, or sex. P U R I T Y

Literally autism tier retardation. If I were Cambodian, I'd demand that the Nine Familial Exterminations be exacted upon Pol Pot's family, and in particular, to be flayed alive and hung in the public square, so great is his crime against the people.
Ethan Brooks
how exactly do you find the tens/hundreds of thousands of people needed to carry this shit out? it's one thing to have a small group of people agree to "oh yea lets just ban fishing and kill anyone with glasses" but when you try ordering your soldiers to enact your ideas, why don't 99% of them automatically agree to assassinate you because that shit's fucking stupid?

>Vietnam literally invades the original Cambodian state and destroys its army >runs supplies to the Rouge at the same time which along with the above lets them take over despite the Americans bombing them >after the war with America ends, Rouge Cambodia goes full retard and attacks Vietnam causing the Vietnamese to topple them and put in a different puppet regime >years later everyone somehow thinks the Rouge's rise to power was the USA's fault and North Vietnam was against them from the beginning despite the Vietnamese communists being the only reason the Rouge got into power to begin with
They can't keep getting away with it.
Christian Murphy
The Rouge attacking Vietnam must be one of the dumbest geopolitical decisions of all time. "Hmm... we've got a bunch of light infantry with rifles, only good at oppressing civilians. They have a battle-hardened military that has spent the last three decades fighting Japan, France, and the US. And they have tanks, lots of artillery, and even an air force. Yeah, this is totally gonna work."
