Why is he admired so much?

Why is he admired so much?

Only thing he did was to bring misery and death to lots of people, and his "empire" fell with his death, causing even more human suffering.
Sure, he had a big impact on history, but so did the bubonic plague

>limp-wristed basement-dwelling neet who can't comprehend the concept of glory

go ahead and crack open that 4th mountain dew of the day before replying

killing and raping is glory?

>implying that conquering nearly every relevant region of the known world, despite being at a disadvantage (disease, logistics, mobilization, etc), while still being a fucking 20 year old boy is fucking amazing. This combined with his relentless persistence make him a symbolic inspiration for almost every (classical) leader and commander.

And do you even know how significant the Hellenistic influence was for the whole region?

sure its amazing, its also amazing how fast the black death spread.
Doesn't make it good or worth of admiration though

You might as well lord that smug sense of moral superiority over literally ever leader ever
He's the great cuz he conquered a lot of shit really quick more than you will ever amount to

Of course.
It requires strength and power.

His persistence and his accomplishments deserve admiration - Because many attempted to do what Alexander did and failed, hard. He did what nobody else could, and thus set the standard for what is humanly possible.

Yes, 'great' in its contemporary usage has mainly positive connotations. But 'great' mainly refers to the facts that his deeds were 'great' in the sense that he had an enormous impact and conquered the known world. Whether the effects of these actions were positive or negative isn't relevant for this title.

Why is any military or political leader admired? Almost every leader we think of as great brought suffering to some other country or even parts of his own. Generally speaking, every leader throughout history was guilty of some crime, Alexander included. Alexander is admired because he was a single man who changed history, the same reason any historical figure is admired, regardless of what evil they caused.

MFW

*gets critiqued on fucking Veeky Forums

killing definitely is

I hope you never find yourself on the recieving end of such glorious deeds

most leader we able to create a stable realm where trade and art could florish
Alexander didn't acchieve that.
He was a bane of Persians, destroying much of their art and killing so many people for literally nothing

Because most leaders didn't only destroy, but also create
Alexander was destruction only

Because people only care about what you achieved before thirty.

False

>in order to oppose people killing you you need to oppose killing in general
lol

oh i see, so you like Alexander because it was /ourguys/ doing the killing and raping?

he created entire cities

you're American aren't you?

he destroyed WAY more cities than he created

name them

>shifting the goal posts

bcuz he fuccd the boipucci

>conquered 90% of the whole world
Way more. China and India were still known then.

You mean if you're a Westerner. All I hear from this shit board is how much the Ottomans and the Turk's sucked. Boo hoo.

Alexander was cool and shit happens OP.

So you say that he's more like "the big"?

China wasn't known to the greeks back then.

>why was he admired so much
not many people have conquered as much shit as he did, user

I believe he meant "unknown"

by that logic hitler and stalin should be glorified. or do they not count because theyre modern and modern people have more rights and feelings than a bunch of people 2000 years ago who dont matter

No. Hellenistic culture had a huge influence on the region.

Also the bane of Persia is GK, because he literally cleansed the people so hard their population didn't recover until modern times.

Hitler and Stalin are great figures in history, doesn't mean people like them. Words can have more than one connotation, do you have aspergers syndrome?

competence. it's rare.

>90%

yeah look at all those empty deserts he conquered

A lot more empty desert than most leaders in history

>Alexander conquered 90% of the whole world
user...

t. internet tough guy

He only conquered part of asia and small bits of southeastern europe and north africa. Hardly 90%, maybe 15%.

Simple - he invaded backwards peasants and gave them civilization. Much like the colonial Empires.
