In some countries your gainz should be taxed, when you convert crypto to USD. But USDT is a coin so = no tax.

tether is a cryptocurrenty just like btc
btc -> usdt , usdt -> btc is faster.

the only off side to USDT is that it deviates between -5% and +5% of fiat, but so much more convenient when you want to move funds somewhere else in case bitcoin price dip

You can't send USD across exchanges, but you can send USDT. USDT also allows exchanges to have a crypto that's more or less tethered to USD without having to deal with banks and their shit, like what BFX is dealing with right now. However if you're only using one exchange which has both fiat pairs and USDT (like Kraken), stick to fiat instead. There's always a small risk that some shit happens to the company running Tether and all your USDT become worthless.
