Except this "stone" was the product of painstaking work of multiple individuals, and this goes for every cultural artifact be it statues and other works of art, buildings and architectural wonders, manuscripts, etc. They're all irreplaceable symbols of the collective knowledge and effort put in by individuals across history.
Destroying these items reduces everything they strived for to nothing.
