Why did the Southern states hold onto their British heritage (namesakes and aristocratic style) more so than the Northern states?

Because they didn't. Go look at a map of New England, the placenames are all either British or Indian.

>New England
In his defense the Yankees renamed many things after the Revolutionary War.

Every state that was an OG 13 Colony has a shit ton of English town names.

Middlesex
Essex
Milford
Concord

etc. etc. etc.

Northern stares were colonized by English malcontents looking for a new life. Ergo they were of lower class standing and cared less for the ways of England. Southern states, excepting Georgia, were colonized by second sons and those of higher class standings, though not quite as pedigreed as actual nobles. Those in South sought to become a new nobility similar in stature and wealth as those of England and took great pains to emulate such a lifestyle, with large manses, "serfs" working the lands, European imported goods, and even a way of speaking copied from the most upper levels of English society. Non rhotic southern accents are simply upper crust English accents with a lilt.

They were aristocratic but that doesn't make them more British by any means. What the fuck?

Great thread OP

They're new, implying they're better than their British counterparts. The North is about one-upping the British, while the South almost allied with the British during the Civil War.

This. The upper class in the antebellum South heavily sought to feudal English values while the North, influenced by both the Puritans and by early waves of non-Anglo European immigrants, was a more industrial society.

>dixiefags base entire society around LARPing as british nobility
>yankees deliberately show contempt for all those same values
>English end up only respecting northerners

No wonder there was so much salt.

>while the South almost allied with the British during the Civil War.
I am loving this meme

Because continentals were to afraid of the racism meme to settle there. Plus the Yankees destroyed our economy so there weren't exactly factory jobs. In the end we're still AngloAmerican while places across the north east are just 'white'. Funny how things work out isn't it?

What's meme about it? Remember the Trent Affair?

They didn't. Read this

because they're stupid and regressive? it's not really rocket science

>The South is where true American culture resides!
>The Southern states hold onto their British Heritage!
So which is it, you dumbfucks?

>literally everyone who posts on this site who isn't you is the same person

I am mad this shit thread got replies

Is this serious? Or are you being intentionally retarded?

>British namesake

It's literally called New England
