Don't think so, check your history book or wiki. Vietnam wasa colony of France for 80 years. But this is only true for some part of Vietnam, like Southern most of Vietnam, which is only part of Vietnam for 200 years. In Northern Vietnam, it's only colony of France for like 50 years.

There is a reason Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia are unlike other regions in Asia, Africa like which are longer colony of Europe. After decolonization, new supra countries are created, older border are erased, old kingdom, chiefdom are gone, while in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia became seperte independent countries.

Ai Nam Quan gate were built by Ming-Chinese, it's always part of China. The land dispute because China had to concede some land after they lost to France in Sino-French war. They use the Sino-French 1887 as reference for border correction. It's more a humiliation for the Chinese.
