The kingdom of Hungary is one of the few that managed to win clear victories against the Ottomans while they were rising. But in the end, Hungary was defeated and invaded. What can explain the defeat of one of the most powerful kingdom un Europe, and what should have been done to prevent this ?

How about not letting your king die in battle without an heir?

inheritance was a huge problem all the time, the very first king of hungary died without a son

ever since magnets and foreign dynasties massed with the throne

also strategic mistake of son of hunyadi who thought by becoming emperor with force, will give him enough power to strike the ottomans down once and for all

he was wrong and bled the country dry of resources in his constant wars, and again died without a legitimate son

it was also not the interest of the HRE, austrians, venice to have a power that can drive out the turks from the balkans, it was a shield for them

Stop fighting wars for Germans.

A typical case of East Europe syndrome - being a military giant, while also being an economic dwarf.
As expected, this situation doesn't last much.

every single Veeky Forums thread has one of these grandstanding comments that is written as if it's some obvious truth but with any knowledge of the subject is obviously, firmly, incorrect

it's honestly one of the worst things about this board

t, uneducated anglo

Hungary wasn't an economic dwarf, they produced 60 to 70% of European gold and silver before the discovery of the Americas. Not to mention it had a larger population than England in the middle ages.

Is this before or after the mongol reconnaissance scouting force vassalized them?

>shit that never happened

>hahaha nigga what do you mean we lost our capital nigga we just moved it hahaha we didn't lose anything :D

Hungary was never a vassal of the Mongols you literal brainlet.

they left in 42 and there was never vassalization you disgusting bong subhuman

Hungary was only a mid-tier power at best. It stood no chance against the Ottomans in the long run. The victories you talk about were won in the mid-15th century. By the early 16th century, and Turks were much stronger.

Infighting between the Habsburg loyalists and the "nationalists" didn't help either, but that was not the main reason.

Spending money on sports helps with Healthcare

If you spend it on overall sports, yes. If you spend it on the ~20000 people who are doing it for a living, no.
Protip: most of the "sports" budgets go to the top earners and teams, not to promote sport among the youths or build gyms in schools.
