Detroit, like most large cities in America, is gentrifying. Lots of white people, hip bars and restaurants, etc.

NYC's cultural influence is way over-blown, especially by New Yorkers. The West Coast and Texas (and states more under their influence) pretty much do their own thing. NYC sometimes won't pick up on popular trends from those regions for years.
