Baths got a bad rep because the black death (people than did go to public baths cathced it a lot more than any others). Even in 16th century they did have a very bad rep because was a palce where whores abounded and thus people than frequently bathed was seen as licentious and depraved.

Most European cities we're basically poo in loo tier compared to the Aztecs. They would just empty their shit basins into the gutter. Hell, the whole reason the Incas died out was because the Spaniards were simply so disgusting and used to shit that they were carrying loads of diseases they had adapted to. The Aztecs and Incas actually had aqueducts that worked while the Spaniards had to make do with crumbling aqueducts from the Roman era which they couldn't replicate.

Even the moors left the Spaniards nice baths, but what did they do? destroy them. The fact that their queen Isabella was said to bathe once or twice a year is disgusting. And the conquistadors always talked about how strange it was the natives bathed so frequently, and by they mean as a daily thing like your'e supposed to do. Aztecs even had to use a ton of incense when the Spaniards came to their city to clean out the stench, but they thought they were being treated like Gods.

That's because christians banned bathing because it was a pagan tradition and anything pagan was literally the devil. Pagans even had a day for bathing called "Laugerdagar" or washing day.

So yes Europeans bathed, before Jewish influence.
