Today lots of Native Americans, just many fewer compared to the immigrant population. Different tribes faced different fates.

On the Eastern seaboard, Native Americans were enslaved and, being prohibited from intermarrying with white servants, instead bred with Black slaves to the point of being an indistinguishable population.

On the Great Plains, already small nomadic populations were forced onto reservations, where disease, alcohol addiction, and suicide further prevented population growth.

On the far Pacific coast, Californian Native Americans either became assimilated into larger Latino communities or were killed off entirely by American prospectors and bandits. Salish Native Americans generally joined immigrant communities, as the settler towns needed labour and many sought to escape a brutal system of classism and slavery in their native societies.

In wasn't so much that there were more Native Americans, it is that their communities were better established and more distinct. The relative population difference was also less.

Majority of Indian groups were already wiped out, thinned out or re-consolidated long before Lewis and Clark ever showed up.

In the late 19th century, there were then efforts to corral natives into reserves, settle them in small towns/farms, and give them specific homelands (Oklahoma, for example). However, most Native groups, even the sedentary farmers, had 'wandering' territory that would slowly shift around over the centuries. In a way, they've been frozen into the lands they were on when (if) they made treaties with white folks.

The concept of 'Nations' for Indian was and is a modern innovation -- Indian peoples didn't really view land 'ownership' in this way before white folks.

Lewis and Clark were most certainly NOT the first white men to do what they did. Generations of French fur trappers and traders had criss-crossed these areas for centuries already. Contact was strong enough that specific 'creole' sign languages existed.

They were, however, simply first to make a big specific expedition of it and report back on what they found to the media of the day. At the time, much of that land was not strongly claimed by any 'White' states. I mean they (Brits, Americans, French) did proclaim MUH CLAY, but basically Indians were still in de facto control over most of it.

We didn't kick them anywhere. Otherwise, boreal forest, plains, etc. is where they always lived.

Apart from some notable exceptions in the early colonial period when various native groups were allied with French, Brits or (post 1770s) young America, Canadian Natives were not relocated. In the cases they were, it was so that they were on the 'right' friendly side of the border. Examples are the Mohawk or Six Nations, who previously straddled what became the new border.

Norsemen and very early pre-colonial European contacts snuffed out the 'Beothuks', but it's estimated they were a rather small and poor tribe anyhow...
