i can't speak to the indians and the indonesians, but the burmese got a bum deal and even the japanese soldiers stationed in burma knew it. i read an account from a jap colonel or some such stationed there that had him totally against giving the burmese independence because it would immediately look like a sham since they'd have to force this new burmese state to submit to their will because the war against the Brits was still ongoing.
