NATO is very much a military alliance.
Allies post pearl harbour, literally everyone piled on to the anti Italo-Nippon-German Rape train when it was clear they would be glassed off the face of the earth.
Most of that is just the European empires though. It's not like it was an alliance of hundreds of countries against the axis.
