ITT: We name historical periods every Veeky Forumstorian should have a firm grasp on

I'll start.
>Classical antiquity (i.e. Ancient Greece, Roman republic, Roman Empire)
>20th century (i.e. WW1, WW2, Cold War, etc.)

depends on your country, you should know your native country's golden age and foundation

Why nothing between those two periods of time?

Chinese and Hellenic history up until 3rd c. BCE. Use only primary sources; burn all your modern books on the subject.

Then, learn geography by studying the history of the British Empire. Just use modern books to do this, but ignore all the moral judgments, and play Victoria a lot, too.

This education in history will serve you better than anything on offer in American liberal arts academia.

it's just bunch of BH (that's beta history)

first of all, anyone in Veeky Forums should know the classic definitions of ages, roughly when did writting started, which were the first civilizations and where, where did law start, where did trade start, where did philosophy, start, etc.

A general overview of European history from Classical Greece to World War II.

Geography. Learn which riveds and seas were traversable, why cities are where they are, and what it takes to prosper as a nation. Geographically

>native country's golden age
What if you're australian?

>these are the people we share a board with

>In no particular order:

European history from about 1400 onwards. Major events and surrounding details - the religious wars, peace of westphalia, rise and decline of the Austro-hungarian empire, formation of Prussia, the Kalmar Union, formation of Italy, the rise of Venice.

British history from the 1600's onwards, including their actions, mandates, colonies and wars (Particularly the seven-years war, the war of 1812, Crimea, the great game in Afghanistan, the Mandate of Palestine and the creation of Israel post-ww1)
French history from 1789
Russian history from 1912
Japanese history from 1800

The history of the four rightly-guided caliphates (and later the Ottomans) and their conflicts with Byzantium/Persia

The Cold War, including decolonisation and the Chinese Revolution

Literally all you need to know to gain a fundamental understanding of the world today desu, everything else is LARPing and largely inconsequential

Gold Rush?

The important thing is to have a firm understanding of the period you are interested in. If you are into Assyrian history, for example, you should have a firm grasp on the overall environment in the ancient near east, so a good understanding of events in Egypt, Babylon, Hittite Empire, etc.

There's too much history to understand all of it. It's better to specialize in a few topics then have a general understanding of all history, since at that point you'll just have Wikipedia tier understanding.

>Choosing a subject based on something you have no control over rather than your interests.

*Than not then

If you are not from Europe I would say it only becomes important to begin studying in the late middle ages.

What? No, most of it is pretty important, especially if you're an American given the Enlightenment ideals of the American Revolution and founding of the country and the influence they derived from Rome.

> Being a patriot
Pfff, fuck that noise

>Ancient Greece
No clue
>Roman republic
No clue
>Roman Empire
A bit more than the others
>WW1, WW2, Cold War
Highly knowledgeable on these topics. Britain created communism, started war with Germany and put the world in peril three times. They tried to screw over America but America ended up screwing over them and saving everybody.

>Study British history from the 1600's and onwards
>Realize that the Anglo race is the embodiment of evil and needs to be destroyed

>Britain created communism
The Germans pushed Lenin back into russia, which directly led to the revolution
>started war with Germany
Belgium was under UK protection, Austria Hunagary started the war, Germany dragged Britain into it.
>and put the world in peril three times
Uh huh.
>They tried to screw over America but America ended up screwing over them and saving everybody.
Wht the fuck are you talking about

Ayy have you read Tragedy&Hope? Love that book but very dense reading.

>The Germans pushed Lenin back into russia, which directly led to the revolution
Funding came from Wall Street, Money was sent back to Wall Street.

Follow the money.

> Jacob Schiff
> Kuhn Loeb and Co
> Warburgs

Bolshevism is a Jewish Wall Street revolution fomented by Freemasons.

Love it when I come to Veeky Forums and read some actual history.
