DBAN is a very old and reliable tool for data destruction. Been using it for years with confidence. The FBI/CIA use something similar, but this ones open source. It's very through, but by no means fast.

If you want somewhat fast and through, use an angle grinder on the platters.

If you want super duper fast use thermite. Place some in your PC above the HD with an electrical ignition system you can flip on in case of emergencies. THIS WILL BURN THE PLACE DOWN! Don't advice using this method but thought it's worth sharing.

Get a screwdriver and a hammer. Hammer the screwdriver through the aluminum side into the platter. Will either crack or seriously bend the paltters rendering them umrecoverble. Trust me, worked forensics for about 5 years. Shit is toast. Takes all of 10-20 seconds.

1) break the disk into a million pieces
2) short the disk so that all data (hopefully) turns into assortments of 1s and 0s into only 0s
