Because our super secret internet clubhouse is better than their super secret internet clubhouse.

Its a Veeky Forums tradition. r/askhistorians is honestly one of the better subreddits

Self-hatred

>how did [culture] achieve [activity]?
>"Actually, they didn't. Instead, they [long winded inaccurate drivel]"
>oh wow, TIL.jpg
>hey, hey guys, look what I learned
>thanks for the gold

Because reddit is compiled of pseudo intellectuals obsessed with point scoring. /r/askhistorians is history channel tier garbage.

Why do you ask?

Some subreddits encourage more substance than you find here. Askhistorians is good, though askscience for example doesn't have high enough standards.
Reddit is great for niche subjects, but I absolutely loathe most of the popular ones. And the voting system doesn't work at all.

Browse /r/history and you'll see why.

For me personally it's because (and I'm speaking about reddit as a whole not askhis) 1) It has an overwhelmingly liberal bias to the point where even the main admin used the site to advertise his anti-trump blog 2) Everyone looks through your post history to find a smoking gun. No one considered what you're saying until they find out whether you been on the "right" subreddits. If not they ban you outright. 3) Reddit's "humor" pun chains and "le epic movie" references are in every major thread. Not to mention he cancer called "reddit gold"
4)Most of the niche subreddits are run like personal fiefdoms where the mods powertrip.

>he was born after 1990

I'm not a Reddit expert but what I've seen of them they will defend leftist dictators and intellectuals the way /pol/ will defend right wing ones and refuse to see any criticisms of them.

This, outright censorship is rampant.

Reddit is pretty based, they actually give well thought out answers with sources instead of like another certain anonymous forum.

> It has an overwhelmingly liberal bias
Funnily enough there's a reddit spinoff created solely because reddit admins are apparently liberal hating conservatives. Maybe everyone's just centric and you're just needlessly triggered by other opinions?

Take r/latestagecapitalism for instance. It's a literal Stalinist subreddit that occasionally breaks in r/a
:reddit.com/r/LateStageCapitalism/comments/5j14g7/happy_birthday_comrade_stalin/?st=j6mgdh4z&sh=c0ce980f

Check out a more mainstream subreddit like r/politics. Almost everything there was anti-trump and during the elections it was extremely pro-bernie.

>3) Reddit's "humor" pun chains and "le epic movie" references are in every major thread.

This is probably the worst part. Reddit's decent when you're looking for specific content, but the community is rock bottom across pretty much the entire site.

Yeah, this sums it up well. The one thing I dislike the most about Redditor pseuds is their seemingly uncontrollable urge to show off their niche knowledge even when it's completely unrelated to the topic at hand. They just can't stop themselves from trying to look smart.

Anything about politics will get everyone to express their retarded opinion and start a flame war. And the highest upvoted comments sound like it came out of a cartoon by how outraged and poorly thought out it is.

>visit "askhistorians"
>see potentially interesting thread with several comments
>nevermind, all the comments are deleted because they weren't 10 paragraphs long and the posters weren't special snowflakes with a tags indicating their area of expertise
>thread gets no more replies, question is never answered
What a shitty subreddit

Those were the easiest examples I could pic out on a dime. But even in more non-potlicials subreddits like r/pics :reddit.com/r/pics/top/?sort=top&t=all
or even in a random thread it tends to be very liberal.

primary reasons
>reddit is obsessed with popculture, they cannot part high culture from it
>upvote/downvote system
>majority of redditors are human cattle that lives in western, urban, cosmopolitan areas. They are drones. This is foremost exemplified by the fact that very little of their thought is original - You're going to see similar quotes (take note of this, they fucking love quotes, much easier for somebody else to articulate your opinions) posted in response to similar trains of conversation once you spend enough time on a subject. Various words pulse in popularity, they are absent from the redditor vocabulary until a definite point where a word becomes omnipresent in their communication. One example of this is "pedantic". Then they rapidly drop in currency. Bonus points if it's some phrase or compound word that is easily substituted by an unitary word - "thinly veiled" "pigeonhole". Reddit's consensus is necessarily the zeitgeist because reddit is one of those websites that projects an atonishing deal of influence over western culture, at least on the internet outside of facebook
>They also have a style of sarcasm that is very bizarre, it's creating a very puny strawman in the form of some sentence that is supposed to illustrate their opponent's opinions. This sentence is thereafter ended with an exclamation mark and often an /s to clarify sarcasm even when it's really fucking evident
>reddit hates memes and shitposty fun, everything has to be as dreary, drab and solemn and sober as possible. Mods are tyrants with personality cults.

t. got sick of it and I left it so I can keep away from it and it from me

People might give /pol/posters flak but at least you can give them the benefit of doubting their good faith. Redditors are bona fide retards

Listen up retard, criticism of reddit's monolithicism in politics and any other matter where there can be dissension is NOT just a metter of "people having a different opinion and others getting triggere

This.

Such is the price for CURATED, QUALITY C O N T E N T

Because on reddit you get banned for saying nigger and I like free speech.

Now go back to that shitty website faggot we dont want you here

I'll tell you why from experience
>Me: if central powers won WWI Austria Hungary would likely continue to exist
>redditor infiltrator on Veeky Forums: YOU CANT BE THERIOUTH

>Because on reddit you get banned for saying nigger

You get banned on Veeky Forums for that too because posting racism outside /b/ is a bannable offence. You could actually get banned just for saying "nigger" on Veeky Forums in the first few weeks but that isn't the case now cause the mods can't be arsed any more.

TL:DR do not mistake lack of moderation with explicit permission

Permission is tacit. Mods are conniving /pol/posting sitewide

This pretty much sums it up.

But I thought that the mod team was infiltrated by genderfluid gay communist niggers ages ago, my /pol/ /b/ro?

This. Either its just stupid comments getting upvotes that are on top or.

Topic is closed due to blahabla

Apart from some interesting topics reddit is awful for discussion.

>reddit hates memes and shitposty fun, everything has to be as dreary, drab and solemn and sober as possible. Mods are tyrants with personality cults.
This 100 percent. I've never seen a more professionally boring community.

They're just apathetic desu

that was my initial point, you fucking mouth breathing mongoloid

This. The average reddit poster thinks he is smarter than everyone else, their posts ooze of smugness and haughtiness, the posts are overly long and always kosher because they want their faggy karma and reddit gold.

Reddit is bottom of the barrell trash when it comes to culture, reminds me of Something Awful and their goons. Same cringeworthy pop culture references and lame sarcasm everywhere, it's like they cannot even communicate without it.

That's very rude user, didn't papa teach you common courtesy

shut up nigger

It's a culture born from the fact that Veeky Forums is a forum (in the public discussion sense) where people don't have identities that carries over between discussion (unless you're a filthy tripfag). This has lead to Veeky Forums being in stark contrast with Ebaumsworld, Something Awful, Gaia Online and NeoGAF, and people "native" to Veeky Forums being hostile towards people from the outside trying to change the culture or act in an improper way.

Best example is /pol/ that went from great to complete and utter shit with no redeeming qualities as a result of when the vocal minority on the board was exiled r*dditors. You can generally measure the health of a board by linking to Reddit and watch how long it takes for the reply "fuck off back to r*ddit".

>the mods can't be arsed any more
I've literally just done serving a ban for saying "kike".

Reddit's extremely anti-zionism and is even at times anti-semitic.

/pol/ was fantastic board for serious discussion around 2013, now it really resembles a combination of /b/, /int/ and reddit. And the mods are keeping it that way on purpose.

It just the way it is, the global rule against racism is in effect even on /pol/. It's just that the board, like most popular boards, is such a dumpster fire the mods don't give a fuck unless /pol/tards go and do something particularly stupid and illegal that could get linked back to Veeky Forums and bite them in the ass.

>muh anonymous

user culture is /b/tard fabrication, early Veeky Forums was full of namefags and tripfags and no one gave a fuck.

It's just /pol/ that hates reddit and /askhistorians/ because they have nuanced explanations that debunk their simplistic narratives

>early Veeky Forums was full of namefags and tripfags and no one gave a fuck
Not true. Early Veeky Forums utilized trips mostly to identify the OP so nobody could impersonate him, it didn't function as usernames do on normalfag forums. The e-masturbating tripcancer we see nowadays emerged only around 2010.

this

or "Thread closed because of RAYCIS comments" or "Thread closed because of BRIGAYDINGG" (even though we are in /all)

>It's just /pol/ that hates reddit
go back faggot

tripfags have always been cancer, you nigger

We started hating reddit in 2010 when it started approximating and normalfagging traditional Veeky Forums memes, the FUUUU comics stopped being posted precisely because of this. That was a few years before /pol/ even existed as a board.

>r/BadHistory propagates bad history
What did they mean by this?

I agree r/askhistorians is pretty good.

stormfaggot spotted

Why is then that every time I see a screencap of pre 2007 Veeky Forums it's always choke full of namefags and tripfags? I even heard that forced anonymous wasn't always a thing and that the name field was simply blank if you didn't enter anything in it. I'm by no means an oldfag but I have a general interest in how this site used to be and seems to me that lot of what we consider "Veeky Forums" culture was something that was done only in /b/ which was reviled by all boards even back then.

seriously you are delusional. Please go away and dont come back

Because you weren't here and only know Veeky Forums from random screencaps. Tripfagging was always shunned, they existed on places like /sp/ and /k/ but were universally hated.
>/b/ which was reviled
/b/ = Veeky Forums. Without /b/, Veeky Forums would remain a generic imageboard centered around gook cartoons and nothing more.

>/b/ = Veeky Forums. Without /b/, Veeky Forums would remain a generic imageboard centered around gook cartoons and nothing more.

Seems more preferable to me than current Veeky Forums.

It's a retarded meme. Half of Veeky Forums browses reddit and 9gag, uses emoji outside Veeky Forums and enjoys watching Rick and Morty, fuck, some probably even have tumblr accounts, but they all pretend to hate those things while posting here. It's kinda how everyone here has an IQ of 140, is 6 foot tall and has an 8 inch penis.

Current Veeky Forums is pretty much reddit, the entire culture is dead and gone. Normalfag boards like /soc/ wouldn't exist on on old Veeky Forums because anyone posting his face and contact info would get trolled to oblivion.

>Why is then that every time I see a screencap of pre 2007 Veeky Forums it's always choke full of namefags and tripfags?
Holy fuck stop talking if you weren't even there.

Speak for yourself faggot
You gotta go back

You need to go back

>Half of Veeky Forums browses reddit and 9gag, uses emoji outside Veeky Forums and enjoys watching Rick and Morty, fuck, some probably even have tumblr accounts
Projection: the post. It's just you. I literally never posted on reddit or 9gag in my entire life.

I bet you also have 10 inch cocks, right?

Stop thinking about cocks, faggot

>muh dik

Yeah, yeah, go click at the 9gag tab you have open in your browser right now and check if there are any new memes in the hot section right now.

Because /r/AskHistorians is the only actually good history subreddit.

>Veeky Forums in 2007
Anons need to create throwaway accounts on guerilla mail so other user wouldn't dox them
>Veeky Forums in 2017
HI MY NAME IS STACY SLUTWORTH THIS IS WHAT I LOOK LIKE FEEL FREE TO ADD ME ON INSTAGRAM, SNAPCHAT AND FACEBOOK LOL

> pigeonhole
is this because i used this word in another thread lmao? I'm never browsed reddit, shithead. otherwise i agree with your assessment

I can't tell what you're complaining about. It sounds like you just don't like long or complicated answers.

I do hate the way they respond to each other though, and their sense of humour is fucking awful.

>You're going to see similar quotes
>lol I did NAZI that coming
>you must be fun at parties
>Yassss queen slaaay
>this recent political event is EXACTLY like when Voldemort killed Aragorn on Tatooine!
>BECAUSE TOTALLY [insert opponent's argument], RIGHT?
>Ummm uhhh like really like I can't even UGH
Anyone spending any amount of time in that place might as well be lobotomized.

History is for humanist idiots. That's why. Historians are ideologues trying to narrativize a history that never happened.

>Long winded inaccurate drivel
>Posts are required to cite multiple sources

why are you here then faggot?

Iconoclasm.

I've said nigger on /r/politics and didn't get banned.

They probably wouldn't exist because the amount of separatists wanting their own country was going to make the thing blow up one way or another, unless they had strong reforms.

I've only ever used reddit as a news/strategy site for video games. That's all it's good for. All it has going for it is that it's more active than GameFAQs.
I hate everybody there.
/b/ is reddit. /a/ is Veeky Forums. Sorry, when the split happened, /b/ was just a containment board to keep shit off of /a/. From then on, the cancer kept multiplying until there were dozens of different /b/s plus the first /b/ which is just porn rolling now.

>Free speech means I can say nigger without consequences

>/b/ is reddit
Fuck out newfag.

Its not about the argument rather than the smug bitchy attitude

>if you say nigger, PREPARE TO SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES!
Why are you even on this board? Not being assed by racism and sexism was always the culture here, if you want to police language then kindly go back to your shithole.

Yes it is nigger

>the entire internet is Veeky Forums!
No it isn't, faggot. As much as I dislike leddit, it has rules pretty clearly laid out. Like it or leave it.

I don't really care if you say nigger, I'm just saying that there are people who care and Veeky Forums is well within their right to ban people for saying nigger. Just because we have "free speech" doesn't mean you can literally say anything without facing backlash by a private citizen/entity.

>lolbergtardian arguments
Falling on deaf ears here bucko

Then go back to >>>reddit

I remember taking screenshots of pictures instead of uploading the pictures directly, to ensure no one would dox me or order 10 pizzas to my place.

I remember anytime someone posted a picture of "himself" I automatically assumed it's a false flagging troll trying to PA someone he doesn't like.

Yeah, it's a lot of pretentious posturing by fringe academics most of whom are looking to push generally leftist/PC viewpoints and you're judged like debate club: less on the content of your post and more on how longwinded said post is.

I do like the book list because it's how I've found a bunch of stuff I've enjoyed reading although it leaves a lot to be desired in certain areas and needs to be desperately updated with more stuff added.

>All images and discussion should pertain to the humanities: history, philosophy, religion, law, classical artwork, archeology, anthropology, ancient languages, etc.

>Yeah, it's a lot of pretentious posturing by fringe academics most of whom are looking to push generally leftist/PC viewpoints and you're judged like debate club: less on the content of your post and more on how longwinded said post is.
Some people on Veeky Forums are like that too. I was arguing with some user and he asked me to define a certain thing so I posted a link and copypasted him the definition from the article. His response was something along the lines of "But I want to see it in your own words not copypasted from elsewhere lmao" as if he wasn't interested in the information itself and instead treated the discussion like a creative writing class. Very reddit-like behavior.

I've been here way longer than you. /b/ is reddit.

Nowadays, you can't get doxxed from a picture you took because Veeky Forums strips all EXIF data from all pictures uploaded,

I've been here since 2006. /b/ was /b/ before anyone even heard of reddit.

2003 fgt
/b/ is filled with redditors. That's why it's reddit. It's not even the same as it was in 2010.

Nailed it.

>M-muh left

We're talking about the old /b/ that shaped Veeky Forums culture though, not modern /b/. Modern /b/ barely matters anymore and Veeky Forums as a whole got redditified to the point of no return.

I'm talking about modern /b/. Regardless, after the split, /b/ was just a containment board. /a/ has not been redditified, only the containment boards have been.
See, that's what containment boards are for.
