There was literally ONE book I read in English class that wasn't about oppressed minorities. It's not just the liberal arts courses that have political messages anymore.

Liberal arts departments are net money makers for the school. An English department is far cheaper to run than a mechanical engineering department for obvious reasons. Purple haired Sjws studying women's lib are paying for the mechanic engineering department's yearly Matlab license and then some.

College sports is really what should be defunded imho

>It's not just the liberal arts courses that have political messages anymore.
Does a liberal arts curriculum encompass all of the humanities and even math and science though?

>Purple haired Sjws studying women's lib are paying for the mechanic engineering department's yearly Matlab license and then some.
It's the same principle as gyms. Bodybuilders are bitching about casual fatties in the gym, but they're the reason behind gym membership being so cheap.

>College sports is really what should be defunded
The top football programs (Ohio State, Alabama, Notre Dame) are generating absurd amount of cash for their schools.

>studied engineering
>mfw no SJW bullshit

Science is 100% liberal arts. Probably wasn't before, but from what I remember in high school it's extremely politicized.

Wait does liberal arts just codeword for liberal propaganda?

In the way I'm using it, yeah. I'm pretty sure "liberal arts" is a much broader term, though.

I'm in an 'art' program (architecture) but don't encounter any of this

Do you count History, Philosophy, Classics and English as 'liberal arts', or do you mean Women's Studies and African Interpretative Dance? Because there is a very large difference and anyone who bitches about having to take a course on major Western literature is an autist who will never innovate or change anything in their STEM field.

'liberal arts' is just code for 'make students not be stupid fucking STEMspergs'
It should be taken further. Every single STEMsperg, yes anthrocuck this includes you, should take a mandatory philosophy of science course focusing on contemporary, harsh criticisms of method. Against Method should be mandatory reading for every student.
This is the only way to de-program students after years of STEMmy propaganda.
They should also have to take a history of science course, focusing on the delusion of progress.

To the STEMspergs in this thread:
'liberal arts' literally is just a degree program where specialization is not permitted. Certain types of classes are required to get a degree. At large universities, this means STEM-approved garbage like courses on video gaymes and history of the fedora, but at smaller (proper) campuses, this means taking the same courses as those which students are majoring in. This means no bullshitting, this means no pretending you're 'smart but lazy'. STEMspergs are incredibly stupid. This is why they either take ESL English courses and still barely get a C, or drop out and have to take an extra year or two of university. This looks awful to any grad school, by the way.

Stop falseflagging.

I'm a history student in Europe and i literally never encountered any of progressivist SJW stuff /pol/ likes to yap about. If anything most European history departments still unconditionally follow Annales School, which is fundamentally anti-Marxist. Likewise most of my colleagues and professors are either centrist or conservative-leaning.

Could this just be an American thing?

>Do you count History, Philosophy, Classics and English as 'liberal arts'

I don't but universities do. And yes I agree there is a difference between studying english or history, and studying Women's Studies. The former 2 has been a part of academia for centuries, the latter hasn't.

Of course it is

English student at a top-10 American lib-arts university here. The SJW stuff on campus is minimal. There's a definite left slant and we get the same 'don't rape' shit shoved down our throats, but beyond occasional mentions of respecting pronouns or whatever there's not much.

>and we get the same 'don't rape' shit shoved down our throats

Maybe I was just in college too early for this ('06-10), but you could avoid a lecture there by basically just saying "uh, duh?"

I'm not, butthurt STEMmy cuck.

They really push it hard. I had to take an online course before attending, plus a lecture in orientation. Sat with my girlfriend and rolled my eyes the entire time.

Like I said, I'm an English major. Most STEMs aren't spergs. You don't need to make your whole life the humanities to be involved with them.

>american
>good

You're a proxy STEMsperg.
>humanities
Don't call me a fucking humanist you disgusting little shit.

80% of the world's top 50 universities are American. Our 100th best is probably better than your backwater's first.

I don't know how anyone that frequents a history board can call the liberal arts worthless when history falls under it.

>best
According to irrelevant STEMsperg metrics. Same garbage as IQ
History is worthless.
History is not a 'liberal arts'. It's a fucking degree/curriculum type you stupid shit.

Stop falseflagging.

t. assrocket STEMsperg

These are the same people that have given us the "white privilege" and "systemic white supremacy" jargon.

Fuck off redditshit

Same thing I posted in the other thread: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._John's_College_(Annapolis/Santa_Fe)

>Everything is taught from primary sources (including math), no textbooks full of propaganda
>Focus on the evolution of ideas through history
>Goal is to teach students how to think, not what to think

Just because liberal arts and humanities curricula are broken at most institutions doesn't mean the entire concept is useless.

All textbooks are filled with propaganda. One cannot teach without.
Yes, STEMshit is propaganda.
>how to think
This itself is propaganda.

>Primary sources.
>No propaganda
HA!

>Everything is propaganda, therefore you shouldn't make any attempt at rationality or critical thought since you're destined to be indoctrinated either way

>But this is clearly bullshit, because Caesar is clearly trying to push his agenda by misrepresenting...
>But this is clearly bullshit, because I/the school's board of directors/the nameless mook that wrote the textbook is clearly trying to push his/their/my agenda by misrepresenting...
You don't see the difference here?

>rationality and critical thought is good becuz somebody sed so

>English class
There's your problem. You only took one class and took that to be representative of all English studies.

This. Yeah, the SJWs were out there, but for the most part I didn't encounter any. I had one professor that was stereotypical leftist airhead, but that was only in an introductory course that I had to take and not really representative of my experience in the English department.

Yes.
Although things like history and linguistics are still fairly apolitical and rigourous. Shit like sociology and political science and of course those retarded useless subjects like niggerology are based on qualitative, subjective data AKA horse shit.

>anyone who bitches about having to take a course on major Western literature is an autist
>Oy vey goy, just look at this racist sexist homophobic imperialist anti-semitic culture your ancestors perpetuated! This is why you should open up your borders and embrace multiculturalism
>What? You think my course is bad? Sounds like you're one of those autists

Engineering seems to be one of the only highly educated fields that leans to the right, ignoring scientists and researchers in fossil fuels and military. Anyone know why this is?
t. chemical engineer

Engineering is unique to most other STEM fields in that it entirely focuses on what's practical. You have to constantly think "Will this base support this structure?" "How can I reduce friction in this machine?" "Will this machine be profitable for businesses?" Meanwhile, all the other sciences are more "visionary" (physics, mathematics) or concerned with the environment (which will almost always make them swing left). An engineer typically won't be quick to believe in the idealism of leftism and will be more likely to choose more practical rightism. Additionally, the fact that engineering is far more viable as a business means an engineer will typically favor the free market.
t. engineer in a workplace of conservatives

I got a liberal arts degree and it was worthless. I learned more from my high school AP science and maths classes, and also learning programming as a child.

People are interesting and worth studying

>People like this guy exist.

A-are you real? You've never fucking touched any non-fiction book older than twenty years?

The top ones, yeah, but then you've got a giant tier of lower quality schools blowing their money in the hopes that SOMEDAY their programs will bring in the big dosh.

Objectivity doesn't exist you idiot
>STEMshit
>educated
>engineers
>highly educated
First, you're STEMspergs. Second, you only need a BSc to become an engineer.

>based on qualitative, subjective data
I can't tell if you're underageb& or just literally never took a single course in any of the social sciences. Regardless, you need to go back to .com and stay there.

t. STEMsperg
Pure ideology.

Liberal arts a marxist cancer the only uncucked liberal art is economics

said the economics student.

econ remains uncucked because if you started pushing marxism everyone would just point to the soviet union and laugh

STEMfags don't really belong at universities IMO. They should set up special schools just to teach math and science to the robotic drones who value that sort of thing. OP, you asking universities to chuck the humanities is akin to asking Veeky Forums to get rid of anime. Humanities used to the core of the university system, the very reason they existed. Education used to mean cultural education, gaining mastery over the histories, philosophy, theology, and classics of literature. These were the valued subjects for thousands of years. The reason why anyone went to university.

But our society has become so materialistic and utilitarian, they make demands of the arts now. What use is it? How can I make money off of it? How does this tangibly make my life better? These are the kinds of crude, unthinking demands made of the arts by people with no real education and no capacity to understand them. These people do not belong at University and never have.

I was an English major. If you had removed the mathematics and science courses from my curriculum I probably wouldn't have gone.

I'd consider my campus quite liberal, but I've only encountered one stereotypical progressive course, and that was a modern american history intro course. Otherwise I've only seen like 50 people do a sit in to protest cooperating with the local police department (I think everyone realized they were being retarded) so they're just your usual crazy fringe

Economics is for foreign idiots, and alt-right turds.
You are 'cucked'
Laughing at something doesn't dispute it, kid.
Good, you're an idiot, you do not deserve any education.

>Economics isn't real
t. starving north korean

Go back to /b/ you fucking child

>>reddit

>economics is rad because planned economies are shit
and virtually every economics class not run by a fucking idiot will also stress that government spending and welfare are legitimate economic tools.

Yes, you are from reddit. Go back.

>and virtually every economics class not run by a fucking idiot will also stress that government spending and welfare are legitimate economic tools.
No shit retard, being anti communist doesn't automatically make you an anarcho-capitalist

Your education was entirely wasted on you then. I was also an English major, I studied western civilization, the thing all these ethno-nationalists claim to care about, yet for some reason can't find the time to actually study. Too busy learning how to crunch numbers and perform menial calculations that machines are more than capable of. A machine can't comprehend the beauty of Ovid's poetry or the value of Thomas Aquinas' Summa Theologica. But I can. And so you could you, if only you gave a shit about the stuff that actually matters.

Enjoy flipping burgers for the rest of your life, debtboy.

That's more of a verdict on central planning than socialism. Not that I'd expect anyone who uses the word 'cuck' unironically to understand that level of nuance.

Tell me, retard, what was the impetus for workers rights movements and welfare states?

Thomas believed in learning mathematics. Mathematics and the physical sciences (or natural philosophy) are liberal arts. The Quadrivial arts are all mathematical. You know this. Stop acting like a retard.

>All these buttmad liberal arts students

Don't you people have jobs to go to? Oh wait, of course you don't

>yet for some reason can't find the time to actually study. Too busy learning how to crunch numbers and perform menial calculations that machines are more than capable of.

A machine is a tool. We use it so you have a way to jerk off the greats of old without any knowledge of the complexities of my craft. I can appreciate poetry, but I am not focused on many works right now. Everyone specializes in a subject, I don't see the point of taking a women's psych class or a history of philosophy if it isn't useful to my development into what I choose to do for the rest of my life. I want to study chemistry because I enjoy it's applications, I would rather get my degree and become independent than spend 3 extra years and thousands of dollars on something that will not hasten my graduate status.

>history of philosophy
Not that dude, but you really should take that class. One of the biggest flaws in modern science students and well-known scientists is their philosophical ineptitude. It leads them to say really stupid things, while also continually trying to reinvent the wheel.

They have jobs. The jobs just suck, this is them on their lunch breaks.

The only uncucked humanities:
>history
>economics
>linguistics

Don't you know? They are being paid to attend antifa demonstrations

welfare capitalism in which the mean of production are privately owned but some profits are redistributed though taxation isn't socialism

>History is worthless
>posts on Veeky Forums

Interdasting...

Very few Veeky Forums posters actually have any interest in history. Or even the humanities, really.

well it gets the school money at least

anything other then stem and business is just Marxist indoctrination

Economics is also a gigantic pile of baloney

Having an understanding and ability to reason across a wide range of subjects is a very practical skill to have

>debt
Keep telling yourself that, stemmy.
>muuuuh greeeeeeks
>muuuuuuuuh romanzzzzz
Both are shit
Liberal arts is a fucking curriculum type you stupid cunt.
You mean, most 'cucked'. Back to /r/eddit

>Economics is also a gigantic pile of baloney
Economists are basically modern day alchemists
They have no fucking idea what they are doing but if they get something right by chance they get all the credit

>study History in Canadian University(Hint: the one that lost 12 million dollars in a phishing scam this week)
>warned about "Marxist Propaganda" and "Essjaydoubleyous"
>every prof is a 60+ Ukranian Expat

I'd wager that this entirely an American thing, if it even exists. My entire campus is largely conservative.

>going to a factory school

>humanitarian delusion

It exists, but people come here to the internet rant about and news media often plays it up

At my university (large public school in the Midwest) you take a 2-hr online course on why rape is bad, then a 2-hr online course on why you shouldn't get blackout drunk every night. I got the impression that the goal was just to try to make an effort to fix the biggest issues at most college campuses.

From what I've seen of political science majors, they aren't too bad. Sociology is is just a talking point for conservatives to say that college students live in a liberal bubble. Sociology majors only tend to be liberal because sociology studies a lot of social injustices and it's hard to see social injustice and not want to change it. For example, I met a professor who was a pretty extreme SJW but she saw her professional as educator as something separate from her "hobby" as activist.

My campus is pretty liberal too, and the only SJW course I've taken was literally a Gender and Women's Studies class. With the exception of last November, we usually only get one big protest (>50 people) at most once per semester. Even then, they always cooperate with police officers.

Have you ever taken a course on economics?

Yes

>be me
>18-year-old looking to go to university in 2018
>attend open day at university
>at political science seminar
>become suspicious of speaker as she begins ranting about refugees and multiculturalism
>starts telling us about her journey to university
>"and this is me outside of a synagogue in the Netherlands"
>synagogue
>it'sthejoosstupid.jpeg
>decide at that moment to not study political science

This. You actually need instruction to know how to properly apply the concepts in STEM subjects. There is almost zero wriggle room for interpretation of method. Either you get it right, or it's wrong.
>Literature
>Philosophy
>Theology
>History
>Psychology
>Economics
>Politics
Why should I spend tens of thousands of dollars on a Liberal Arts degree to study these subjects when I can just read these books on my own time, and be fine without proper instruction?
t. Business B.A
I's argue that microeconomic theory and econometrics isn't just something you can simpy learn and apply by your own.

ITT: uneducated retards talking about shit way above their education level or intelligence.

>ITT
Bruh, isn't that this whole board

You won't be fine you stupid fucking STEMsperg, that is already obvious.
STEMspergery is all wrong. Another clear argument against autodidacity.

>Why should I spend tens of thousands of dollars on a Liberal Arts degree to study these subjects when I can just read these books on my own time
Because you won't read them on your own time. You'll keep putting off and making excuses. And if you ever did try to crack one open you'd probably just give up trying to read it and consult some website about what it means because your pathetic excuse of a STEM education never taught you how to think.

Liberal arts are purely educational.
ie. their sole purpose is self development,
which is just a smart way of saying they dont teach you any marketable skills
problem is people going into to these cancer fields just to get a ''''''university degree'''''' which they think they can wave around to leverage a job with

>board
Bruh, isn't that the whole world

>OP unironically goes to r/cringeanarchy
so its true what they said about this being the reddit of Veeky Forums

Humanities should be expunged and replaced with bible studies and nazi studies.

God damn hippy liberals should be shot.

thats just civil engineering though, thats why its laughed at for not really being ''science'' enough and considered the easiest stem subject, its also why most civil engineering graduates dont work as actual engineers.

I'm a burger, and in my experience, most political science students tend to be left leaning, but the arts school is where you'll find the most full blown marxists
