>he went to uni instead of taking a trade
Lmao have fun being a retailcuck well into your mid-twenties because you thought you were “too intelligent” for a trade program. The longer you hide from the real world the harder it will be to start a career

I've spent 7 years doing shitty manual labour jobs and retail shit on crap pay, now im finally going to uni to get an education but all i see is bullshit like this putting me off.

Unless you're very fucking lucky or know a guy, you arent getting 50k starting pay in a trade

In a little over two weeks I'm gonna get my master's. The nightmare is over.
Not attending the uni. That was kind of fun. But managing going there, working and writing my thesis.
I never studied history though. Only "related" subjects.

you're the real fool here

This is dumb. Also, you're not going to make 50k first year welding. Period. I just started clearing 60 last year, and I've been welding for almost a decade now, I'm just a specialist.

t. Underwater welder

>Underwater welder

How does it work?

I actually live in Toronto, just here for uni. I've met a few other people on other boards who go here though

I live with three so there's a start

I was thinking of minoring in it but I found it really boring to learn in an academic setting

I know another guy going into first year Eng. Are you Okanagan or Vancouver?

>trade
>even comparable to a patrician degree like econ

Just do something useful in university, don't fall for the liberal arts & humanities meme.

Is it dumb to get a criminal law/his double major if i want to get into policing or teaching?

Anyone from NAIT here?

High school dropout reporting in

There is a problem that I am detecting.

I think you have to compare the different types of wealth that, say, for example, a career in creative writing vs a career in underwater welding provide. Ok, if you love underwater welding, do it, because it is enjoyable for you and it pays well. If you hate underwater welding, but you do it anyway for the money, you're wasting valuable time in your life. People with unsatisfactory jobs always have "venting" occupations like smoking marijuana or playing video games, because they simply cannot do something they hate 24/7. Somebody who is interested in creative writing, on the other hand, should make a career out of it because they will be able to enjoy their lives. Even though they're making less money, they're doing something that they're passionate about (they might even save some money not having to pay for "venting" occupations like people who hate their jobs do).

what are you doing pre-law tho

Pre-law? We don't major/minor here.

In the US law school is something you go after you complete your undergrad, you can't really major in "law" here, most people do something like liberal arts for their undergrad. Do you guys just have straight undergraduate law degrees?

Uhm...our system is very, very different, I suppose. You start applying to a faculty in an university. Faculty of Law, of Psychology, of Linguistics etc. (or Politehnica, for STEMs, basically different kinds of engineering). During those 4 years you must pick some semestrial courses from other faculties, same uni. I for one took portuguese for this upcoming semester and will pick criminology or anthropology for the second semester, but that hardly counts as a "minor" or "undergrad". We don't just spend some time and then decide to graduate on something. Perhaps you can tell me more about your universities.

>he fell for the "you have to be happy where you work," meme

Memes aside, take this for an example. I worked security making $9/hr for 3 years. I loved it. I got to talk to all kinds of different people, and basically did next to nothing. I even had one site where I'd bring my computer and play vidya for 10 hours while watching monitors. It was a sweet gig.

Now, I work for the Postal Service, making $20/hr. The work is tedious, the public is aggravating, and my immediate supervisor is a useless drunk. I don't particularly like working there, but I do like my paychecks. I like not having to save for a video game, shit I usually have enough money left over to buy an intermediate grade pistol every month. I work steady hours, get off in time to pick up my daughter from school, and have plenty of free time to pursue my actual interests, like shooting, vidya, and studying different periods in history. I'm decidedly happier than I was when I was working security.

You're not taking into account either that most people, in the US at least, will not be creating products, but rather will be providing a service. There's a lot to be said about the satisfaction of making something with your own skill and hands, and a welder or writer will experience that. I only get to feel it when I make things for my family or myself. I like to draw, but I don't have the drive to build my skill level to the point where it would be commercially viable. I built my wife a planter for the porch, but I couldn't sell it.

Point is, you don't need to be head over hills with your work to be happy. There's a lot to be gained for having healthy hobbies and strong families. Eating dinner with my family is my second favorite part of the day, right behind sinking into my chair with the dog to watch "grown-up" shows after bedtime.

No, but UofA reporting in.

Add me to the list boys

I'm doing the same thing, majoring in Bio with a minor in Philosophy. It looks nice on a resume, especially if you're going into Buisness

How disgusting is the SJW on campus? I can barely go a class before some sperg gets triggered by Trump

I done fucked up, lads.

Are y'all UBC students in the free speech club?

What is a good computer science school that also offers a lot of good history courses?

I'm thinking of majoring in CS, maybe minor in history. I was originally going to go to college for CS, preferably UIUC or Purdue, then hold off a few years and go to Loyola or something for history.
