Emotion or Reason

Is reason overrated?
What is more useful to the individual in a practical sense, the admiration of beauty through fiction and the arts, or the foggy and ceaseless theorizing and intellectual challenge of philosophy?
Which will foster a better world view?

who

Yes, reason is overrated. Read Nietzsche to find out why.

yeah reason is like, poverty, pollution and wretched self-complacency, you know?

If you can't argue Nietzsche's points, you didn't read him well enough. Could you explain why you say reason is overrrated?

Who is this ejaculate coagulate

...

Reason alone can't give meaning, but emotion sucks.

>Is reason overrated?
No. It is under-utilized. Everyone has to maintain a part of their own mental activity which is non-rational or affective, but anti-intellectualism is on the rise, even amongst popular science advocates, and that shit has got to fucking stop. Reason may not be all, but it is absolutely fucking necessary.

I'm just here to say I appreciate those legs. God bless you sir, and have a wonderful day

Anyone have the rest of the set?

Reason, only if for the fact that reason needs emotion to direct its judgement within pragmatics. The problem with reason is that it only knows how to describe one's stream of consciousness.

EX: I can live in a shitty environment, describe how shitty it is, and shrug my shoulders. But if reason were directed via anger, the shiftiness would actually be offensive and infuriating. And motivate me to improve my conditions where I wouldn't live in places that trigger anger.

CONT.

Reason is ironically enough needed more in the most desperate of circumstances. In war, you might see a portion of the population revert to a cold fatalism. Which is adaptive because emotions are useful within certain bounds. But through an exponential amount of stimuli and emotions become an energy drain in a situation where conserving energy is a matter of life or death.

But throw an exponential...*

This is why Eastern philosophy is so much better. For some reason in the West you totally separate logic and emotion as if they are completely different and exclusive from one another. In the East we understand that both are important

>Implying emotion isn't a form of reason

both

If the world were reasonable we'd have vast swathes of the population sterilized.
