What did he mean by this?

i said define, not give an example of, you cringy /pol/edditor

Human interpretation of objects

Art is an anagram of rat.
Make of that what you will

HOLY SHIT MODERN ART BTFO HOW WILL IT EVER RECOVER?

Actually it would be
Human interpretations of other human interpretations

i like that explanation, but it sounds too meatless, mind expanding on it a bit?

>Define "art"
The sensuous presentation of ideas

This is real art.

Almost maybe

Art is human interpretation
>a.k.a paintings, dance, music
Interpreted by humans
>audience

Really if you boil it down to its essence
This definition applies to all art, modern classical, etc.

Art is about a human interpreting some part of life and then an audience then interprets that interpretation.

Thus creating an endless cycle which allows for art to evolve

Anything "art"ificial. If it's man made it's art. Might not be good art but it's art nonetheless.

is a hammer art?

What about john cages 3' 44"
What senses are being rattled when presented with the idea of silence

In a techincal sense yes.

But this is why
Makes sense

If the object cannot be interpreted by an audience. Then it is not art.

>i made a hammer. It is always and forever the intent of the artist that this is a hammer.
>the audience of that hammer may interpret it that hammer to have some meaning. But ultimatley the hammer cannot represent anything more than a hammer until it is presented to an audience as such.

In other words
>a hammer is made
>someone sells it and uses it
Is not art. But
>a hammer is made
>someone puts it on display for an audience
Is art.

The paradox here is that the act of using that hammer can also be interpreted as well, thus making it art

Works created with the intent to inspire a specific emotional response in the audience.
Relying purely on the interpretation of the audience creates a flawed product, similarly paintings can be created without any deeper value than being pretty to look at.

Lies manifested in pictures are also art, as your pic shows, if you wanted to know.

Is porn art?

You know it when you see it.
It's either that, or it's just stuff we like a lot.

Every other possible answer is a mere speculation.

yes

It's not silence. You're hearing the background noise, like people coughing.

Art's good shit, we wouldn't have many symbols of the past without it

Is this how stupid people think?

kek

Explain how I'm wrong in detail.

I wouldn't consider it art. I don't think being horny counts as an emotional response

lust is an emotion, user

Porn is more like a biological response to visual and auditory stimulus.
It's like saying cutting onions is art because it makes you cry.

Emotions are biological responses.

Not if you believe the consiousness is seperate from the body
:^)

Believing in something does not make it true.

Art is just a nonsense word with no definition at this point.
For people who like technical proficiency, please use the word craft. That'll keep the retards away.

This is art, by the way

It does in 2017, you pleb.

A message in a bottle.

My own definition? Maybe: "Something made by someone not solely for the purpose of using it, but for others or himself to enjoy it. It must be apparent that the artist made an effort to please the viewer."

Anything that is created with the intention of giving the viewer aesthethic pleasure. It may have other functions, like telling a story or making a point but thia has to be there. That's pretty much it.

Anything I say it is.

Unironically.

Recently in a museum I saw a ceremonial hammer, covered in gold, gems and ridiculously detailed allegorical figures.

A material human creation that hints at something beyond the material.

Cultural Artifacts made with intent to communicate an idea or feeling rather than serve an explicit practical purpose.

I have a problem with this

If thats the case. Doesn't that mean any found object cannot be art? If I build a working car. Does that not make it art?

Yeah I know
But the artist never presented that idea towards me though. This was an idea that was interpreted from you the viewer.

I know thats the purpose of john cages 4'33" is to hear the background noises around you. But I think philosphocially wise the definition that art is "a display of ideas" is only half of the truth. John cage doesn't display anything. Therefore by thay definition there is bo ideals being displayed. And thus cannot be art.

Obviously thats bullshit. Of course its art. But its art because we the audience interpret it as art

Art is not a binary, all human artifacts exist on a continuum between art and engineering. A classical painting is art almost purely. A particularly pretty map or an intricately carven mug is a little bit closer to engineering. A high end beautiful super car or a video game are somewhere in the middle while a Ford fiesta has very little art to it and business analytic software is basically entirely engineering.

The encapsulation of the world's beauty and madness in the eyes of man on a canvas with a traditionally used medium
