Progressive protests have been changing in the last 60 years:
the Vietnam war protesters were one thing; very ffw in 1999, the anti-WTO people in Seattle were another, in 2011 OWS folks were another more, and BLM and antifa now are yet a different one.

This is a protest, now. It's posted by Sargon of Akkad, so one can expect the camera looking carefully in one direction only, but statements, chants and talking points are not staged. It's from protests at the Free Speech Week in Berkeley.

I've been looking at it, and then I've been looking at this:

This one is Naomi Klein talking at the labor conference. Naomi was around in 1999, had just published No Logo and is still essentially preaching the same gospel she was 20 years ago. The discourse has matured and adjusted to the current political scenario, but the terms of her "protest" stay in the same arena. She's an intellectual and a supporter of grassroots movements whose advocacy in non compliance is very much real - cfr. The Take - but it doesn't resemble anything like the other video.

I feel that protests like what BLM, BAMN, antifa, etc. are doing now might further result in discourse polarization and loss of whatever is left of the debating platform: Trump supporters that see what Sargon of Akkad has an easy time putting together, even though they are blue collars who would benefit from voting progressive, are driven away. I feel that someone like Naomi Klein does the opposite - when she refrains from cheap shots at the fat guy or one too many clapping pauses.

Discuss.

I get it, in the Berkeley video its a shouting contest, but why are the progressives doing it?

>who would benefit from voting progressive

Can we please stop this meme? The left here in Europe has destroyed, spat on and humiliated the native working classes.

There is no "benefit" to losing your country. If you faggots actually put together an electoral platform that combined socialist policies with actual border control then maybe you'd stop hemorrhaging white working class votes. But even Bernie backtracked on his commitment on that.

Liberalism and leftism are joined at the hip, and the latter must kowtow to the former.

The west has gone full "progressive" and it has been a fucking disaster. Its time to shut the fuck up about it. There doesnt have to be a big fight for "liberation" every 10 years

you say "here in europe" but you correlate liberalism with leftism

you're such a fucking retard

I blame the creation of 24 hour news networks and people caring too damn much about politics. Historically, democracy works best when people aren't constantly obsessed with politics all the time. And no I don't mean in the "keep the people ignorant" sense, it's just that when people don't think the world is in constant crisis, they tend to not make kneejerk voting decisions and see everyone with a slightly different opinion as the "other", primarily because they didn't even know that person had that opinion.

There's a reason the old saying is that if you want to keep lifelong friends, never bring up politics or religion.

Again, leftism and liberalism are JOINED AT THE HIP.

Try forming a leftist movement without the liberal kool-aid and see how quickly the left in a place like Britain demand it genuflect towards things like mass immigration.

The "left" is a very unclear subject when you talk about Europe. Who are you alking about???

Because to many of them it's just an excuse to indulge their nature.

It's more about people getting involved with national politics while completely ignoring community board meetings and local politics entirely, which is of course facilitated by the msm.

So are we waiting for people to get bored of the internet?

by "joined at the hip" do you mean have vaguely similar backgrounds but are quite different?

Outside of major congress bills and SC decisions, national politics generally don't mean jack squat for your hometown. Which they don't understand.

No I'm hoping for politics to become so boring that people stop caring again.

You sound very eager to accept that as gospel instead of fighting it.

Economically I'm very leftist, but I'm never going to accept mass immigration or what it means for Europe, and that makes me persona non grata among most leftists and only welcome in fringe-"right" wing movements that embrace various forms of economic socialism.

leftism is far from a purely economic viewpoint

Right, exactly. Which is why all the white minoritization stuff is imperative for you.

Not history.

So putting quotes around right wing shows you don't seem to understand it

Don't be so quick to label yourself to fit into a group. Just do what you believe.

And then what? Full automated luxury communism? Better question: is anyone doing operative research into how that would actually work? Cause that's a good cause people could finally join!

>And then what? Full automated luxury communism?

No, we'll just go back to the way things used to be where we just got relatively normal politicians.

I think I find myself in your shoes, but sometimes I question my own reasoning and think, am I just buying into the narrative of mass immigration, rather than having a as-neutral-as-possible account of the facts? I live in Europe, expat so I get to see two different countries, one is the NL. I see mass immigration in that I see the internationalization, and I see some culture clash, but I don't see the catastrophe I see on tv...

ITT examples of how things just got back to where we just got relatively normal politicians.

I start: Germany after WWII

The difference is as much as people bitch about the latinos taking our jobs here in America, they're not starting shit. They're not massively raising the crime rate and turning the country into a shithole, that's being done by a group that's always been here. They just want work because there no longer is none in their countries.

The same can't be said of Europe, the people mass immigrating there are causing more than just economic problems.

You can't talk to them about this stuff with a good historical perspective cmon

Radicalism is not brewed in Europe itself though. Could there be better integration with a better handling of the Middle East situation? Those are some very sad 60 years.

Well yes disaster is the shortest path to normalization, but I like to avoid that.

Posting this on pol for science

It sorta is though. The muslims who have been in Europe for a couple generations already, those older people aren't radical, they left the middle east to get away from that shit and live somewhere more stable. It's their children who are young and impressionable that are being indoctrinated.

>they are blue collars who would benefit from voting progressive
>DUDE JUST VOTE FOR TRANNY BATHROOMS AND THE LOSS OF WORKING CLASS JOBS IT'S IN YOUR OWN INTEREST LAMO

Fair, let's say the recipe is imported then.

The ways in which left wing European parties have harmed working people are all related to Neoliberalism, something which their counterparts on the right are FAR more complicit in. The privatization and benefits cuts that made Hollande unpopular really pale in comparison to the devastation wrought by a more conservative fiscal policy on working class institutions like the minimum wage and unions.

You're talking about immigration, but right wing parties in Europe really aren't less more pro immigration than left wing parties. More importantly, that's just one of many factors which is bringing down wages and harming workers.

"liberalism" is not used to describe the left in Europe you larper

>the loss of working class jobs
oh you mean the thing thats accelerated by the financial collapse which happened due to decades of deregulation starting with Reagan and being expanded by every president until Bush jr? Do republicans not realize that their factory jobs are going to go away, whether Republicans slow down the process or not. Building a damn out of horse manure isn't going to stop the flood.
Both parties should use that philosophy when dealing with the debt crisis, any crime statistics, infrastructure change, and global politics.
