HEY EVERYBODY, IT'S LEIF ERIKSON DAY!
HINGA DINGA DOURGEN
And thus, I check for Leif.
>tfw we could've had a Scandinavian New world
>Instead we have le current year country and 56%istan
Was Bjarni Herjolfsson not there first?
>viking males settle newfoundland
>no wimmenz
>ireland is too far
>fuck injuns
>give them european immune systems
>english and french are greeted by an advanced, mixed race population who won't wither away to disease
#1 superpower
Newfoundlander/Vinlander here, we keep a nice little reproduction of his settlement at the same spot that he attempted settlement
>>no wimmenz
>who is Freydís
I kinda hnnggg at the thought of mixed norse/beothuk mythology also, would've been pretty rad stuff
>norse gods mixed with animalism
also, considering that vikings may have had slightly better technology, but that natives had knowledge of the flora and fauna, they were pretty even, and general peace and coexistence was a decent possibility if the vikings would've stuck it out
I don't blame them for leaving though, the island is nearly unbearable on the coasts even with modern technology
sorry, animism not animalism
Is Squidward ready?
>horned helmet
Skål!
well at least he tried
>Discover a new continent
>Don't tell anyone
Was it autism?
the shattering effect on the perspective of man's understanding of the world was not fully understood, or appreciated by the barbarous northman
How do you like living there?
They wanted to keep all the new waifus for themselves.
New islands dotted the worlds as the vikings knew it and this was just another irrelevant shithole.
>lets make up a holiday to make minorities hate us even more
yipee.
>Implying the Pope didn't know
>Implying Columbus didn't go to Iceland to find info on Vínland
fucking this
pros
>comfy
>decent people
>real estates super cheap (can get a 3 bed 2 bath in the city for probably 250k CAD)
>not too warm
>uni's cheap by NA standards, ~1800/semester
cons
>weather is crazy during the winter
>never not windy
>job prospects are pretty meh
>not as much variety in stuff to do
overall i like it
like the later European explorers, they didn't deign to think there would be continents other than Europe, Asia, and Africa until they had sailed all the way around them or gone really far inland
it just seemed like common sense to them that there wasn't some big enormous landmass they had no knowledge of
it'd be like finding a new type of matter today that's in your front lawn right now, no one would believe you
Nice architecture but buildinds shouldnt have that color, brown and light brown would be good
the colour thing derives from the fact that we used to be a huge navigational and commercial harbour for the fishing industry in north america, and we would often get bright colours used on large vessels cheap and in bulk
so it was generally cheaper to use those bright colours, and we just kept it going
our baytowns are less bright due to the lack of these paints being available like in pic related
Look good
Used to live in coastal Maine, was looking at moving to Halifax. Always liked the idea of Newfoundland though. There's something comfy about living on an island that's kinda secluded.
Literally nothing else needs to be said.
But they did, Adam of Bremen wrote about it
Everyone just thought it was another inhospitable arctic island
Newfoundland is even more of an inhospitably cold shithole than Maine
who
thanks
yeah St. John's is pretty nice I'd say, it's about ~230k people but it doesn't feel big at all
you can keep yourself occupied most of the time but there's a feeling like nothing outside of Newfoundland can really "get" to you there, you know what I mean?
but I'd tell anyone that comes here that you'd want to get a job set up before you commit and be prepared for the weather
i mean it's similar to maine, but our wind is nuts, got up to 180 km/hr last winter which sent a canoe through a second story bedroom window
Ya I can't imagine.
Luckily my job is remote. I just need an airport really.
