Recently i've downloaded SH3 with GWX again, AKA the Das Boot Simulator. It's still an amazing game but it gets boring quickly after first 10 patrols. Never played SH4, i did play SH5 and it felt dissapointing compared to SH3.

Mount & Blade Warband, still enjoy it.
Swadcucksand Sarranigs can leave, Rhodock master race.

Mod tier
>SH3
>NYGM
>LSHIII
>GWX
>WAC5.0
>Everything else
>SH4
I really only know of Real Fleet boat and Trigger Maru really. Really good mods though. Never tried Operation Monsun but heard it was good.

I can't go back to SH3 after playing Operation Monsun mod for SH4.
It basically changes the theater from Pacific back to Atlantic (not only, you can join flotilla's that patrol in the Arctic, Mediterranean, Black Sea and even Indian Ocean), you've got tons of U-Boat types to play with (II, VII, IX, even the electro subs and each of the main types have several versions).
What's great about it is that the mod creator was autistic enough to recreate all major convoy traffic routes, so that if you spot a convoy, it was there IRL at that exact time as in game. Also the fact that it gets ridiculously hard in 1942, and nigh impossible to survive in 1943 just ups the ante. Escorts are deadly as fuck and you learn to avoid surfacing in daytime.

Vietcong. Still the best Vietnam game ever made and one of the best war FPS period.

Being playing some HOI and EU, just went republic with France and its so op Vive la France i guess

Someone REALLY needs to make a version of Silent Hunter Commander for SH4

Always wanted to get into those submarines game, are they complex or can i learn ingame?

I tried Victoria II recently and it completely goes over my head. I try to play as Austria but Prussia and Italy always team up to rape me together. How do I stop them?

only thing that's complex is the manual targeting (math involved), but you can turn that to auto so all you need to do is point and click. I prefer it that way, because I doubt a real captain needs to do all the fucking calculations by himself when he has officers under his command to do it for him.
Besides, what a real captain should be worrying about is how to intercept a convoy, attack it and survive an escort counterattack

You can rush military tech if you want, I've honestly never played Austria but from all of my matches I've seen, Prussia will just keep bullying you in the "Brothers' war", unless you bully them first into submission. Generally Prussia will try and help Netherlands fight against Belgium + Britain in the beginning, so you could use this to your advantage and jump on them while they're distracted, or when they're at war in a Crisis (generally against Russia or France).
If you want a more beginner friendly nation, I'd suggest U.S.A, get a grip of the game, you can't really fuck up as the U.S.A., you can dick around with the industry/economy and military sections of the game with it. France is a good choice, too. Russian Empire is incredibly rewarding once you get your literacy rate up and become an industrial behemoth with a fuckhuge army.

Just find a good way of finding a ships speed and you are good.
Here is a good way to measure it somewhat realistically and not use the map to measure how fast it is going.
>Find what type ship is
>When the bow of the ship touches the middle of periscope start in game stopwatch
>When the stern touches the middle of the periscope stop the stop watch
>Now take the length of the ship provided in the manual and divide that by the speed and then multiply by 1.9
Finding the speed of a target is the hardest part of the game next to avoiding depth charges but even that depends on what mod you use. Also that system only really works with SH3 unless you get a pretty obscure mod for SH4.

>Give Prussia everything it wants
>Ally it
>Fuck Russia up together

As Austria I literally gave up on the idea of unifying Germany, got rid of Bavaria, Saxony etc from my sphere and instead fully focused on Italy and carving up the Ottomans. Prussia pretty much left me alone.

>not fucking Prussia up and forming the South German Federation

I need to play this on my i7 potatoe.
and i am carving for some eu4 , by some we mean just a couple hundred hours.

>not allying with Russia

How to avoid depth charges? in best case scenario.

>not allying with Ethiopia

>Not allying with Sokoto AND Ethiopia so the enemy's armies would die from attrition from walking through the desert

rig for silent running, ahead slow and dive to at least 50 meters.

If you can try to position yourself behind the destroyer/escort because that way they're less likely to hear you from the noise of their own propeller.

run silent, run deep :^)

I think Crusader Kings 2 is my favorite Paradox game because of the focus on the political and personal side of things which really immerses you in the game and makes the characters feel more like real people. Like the connection between the personal life and interactions of your ruler to the outer political body and events is genuinely compelling and I'm not sure Ive found any other game that quite does that. Only Paradox game I haven't played is vicky 2 so maybe that has a little of that but I just wanted to say.

I play Battlefield 1 because I'm interested in REAL HISTORY

Vicky 2 focuses more on the Economic aspect of the game, the pops system is what makes the game so great, with everyone having their own demands, the economy shifting and changing between supply and demand, prices. You can actually kill the economy by sphering China, because the artisans will overproduce too many goods and fuck everything up, good stuff.

>You can actually kill the economy by sphering China, because the artisans will overproduce too many goods and fuck everything up

No offensive but that sounds fucking retarded.

I understand. Perhaps I gave a very shitty explanation, but I can see why it'd be fucking retarded. Still love the game, though.

Red Orchestra 2 is still the best WW2 FPS currently. Check it out.

I mean, that's exactly what happened in reality once China opened up to trade. Chinese production destroyed low-end American and European industry.

When you sphere a country, your pops buy goods from them at the same priority as buying from your own production. This glut in supply causes prices to collapse and wrecks your factories.

Victoria 2 economy is weird like that.

The mechanic that takes the cake is "Rank Starvation". When buying goods from the world market, the pecking order for pops to buy goods is not wealth, but rather the Great Power rank of the home country. So if Britain is #1 GP and France is #2, the poorest farmer in Britain gets to buy stuff before the richest French Aristocrat.

Normally this isn't a problem, but if say, China/India industrializes, they instantly shoot to #4/#5 GP, and their teeming millions buy up all the goods they can get their hands on. A player China can trigger communist revolutions worldwide by becoming #1 GP, and buying literally everything available on the world market. This leaves even #2 GP pops starving in the streets and clamoring for Communism.

>hate most things modern Ubisoft produces
>last open world game of them I played was Far Cry 3
>buy pic related for €15 euros
>change the spoken language to French, so I can roleplay as French Foreign Legion
>remove the hud, mini map, crosshairs and pick highest difficulty
>create a qt female operator as PC
>ignore the entire story and roleplay as a bushmen ghillie suit commando stealthily murdering thousands of enemy soldiers in some fictional war in the swamps of French Guinea

Probably the most fun I've had in vidya in some time. Game is underappreciated as hell, it has a very impressive map which is fun to explore, and it absolutely nails that operator feel of taking down dozens of enemies while staying undetected. Its even better when you realize theres a big focus on co-op.

> Clear and Present Danger : The Game

The bigger problem that I have with the game is that it simply won't load anymore. I downloaded the expansion packs (A House Divided & Heart of Darkness) because I was told that the expansion packs would greatly improve gameplay. However, now the game simply won't load.

wut?

Well just torrent it in that case.

Try deleting the mapcache folder

I can't find that or any of the game files for some reason. I've decided to just completely uninstall it and re-install it to see if that helps.

damn makes me want to buy it now. i wanted it but poor reviews at launch turned me off. reading this tho its fucking 20 bucks and I'm keen to role-play what ur saying

>Sugar boat
You absolute madman.

>Holdfast: Nations at War
>War of Rights
>Mount and Blade: Warband w/ Revolutionary War mods
It's just so comfy to be in the first person and reenact being a soldier/sailor in a line battle or naval battle

I remember when the first trailer came out and was being streamed at E3 I actually laughed out loud the whole time, just everything about it topped off with the fucking music going "WE CANT CHANGE DA WORLD WUB WUB UWBUWBWUB" it was just too much.

>Rising Storm/Red Orchestra II: Heroes of Stalingrad
>Crusader Kings II

Empire: Total War
Hearts of Iron III
Men of War: Assault Squad 2
Red Orchestra 1 (for the Darkest Hour mod)

>RO1
People still play that? I'm thinking about getting it when the next sale comes.

RO1 itself is pretty dead, but the Darkest Hour mod for it is free and has a dedicated player base and active devs.

>Rhodock master race
spears are too shitty for me to enjoy them

Forgot to mention before I hit submit. The devs also ported RO1 content to DH, so if you want to play that specifically, you still can.

Don't buy any of the DLC or expansions, they're not worth it. Base game has enough customization and content as it is.

Get out of the first area asap, its the weakest and blandest part of the map. The mountain, desert and mangrove swamp areas are my personal favorites.

A lot of Total War in spite of the sometimes glaring historical inaccuracies. I've found FOTS to be rather entertaining.
>Tfw you decide to fuck the Shogunate and the Emperor by going the Republic route
>Essentially turn my faction into a giant business cartel, whore myself out the western powers in exchange for modern firearms and firepower
Not the most honorable way to play, but getting access to European units/ships tends to tip the odds in your favor early on.

War of Rights Brigadier General donor here, AMA

Haven't looked too much into this game, what's the endgoal for development and how has progress been so far? How big is the player base? Is it all line tactics?

...

>Play JTS Civil War games
>Play some Napoleon as well
>Look at the WW2 games
>holyfuckingshithowcanyouevenmanageallthis.jpg

Operation Market Garden looks around the same size than some of the Civil War campaigns at least.

Wasn't there a WW1 game similiar to this?

You are either thinking of AGEOD To End All Wars but that it a lot different and much more on a strategic level with each unit being a division instead of say, a regiment. JTS does have two WW1 games however, France '14 and East Prussia '14.

Do you play them?

>AGEOD To End All Wars
Yeah, that's the one. Thanks, user.

>endgoal for development

A Civil War FPS that allows you to fight large scale battles (up to 200 players) on battlefields accurately modeled on their real life counterparts right down to the placement of the trees. The game will start with four maps (each several miles in size) modeled on the 1862 Maryland Campaign but will add additional ones as DLC later on.

>progress been so far

We've got one map (Antietam) completely finished, Harpers Ferry will be released in coming months. Currently the game only features Skirmisher mode, an infantry-based 64 player mode that has the armies fighting for control of a small portion of the map (Dunker Church, Burnside Bridge, Miller's Cornfield etc.).

We recently held a commemoration of the Battle of Antietam on the server a few weeks ago if you want to get the gist of gameplay.

youtube.com/watch?v=ZukwCl9_3wo

>How big is the player base

There are close to 8,000 donators, but the active player base is a lot smaller, we usually have 64 player events on the weekends.

>Is it all line tactics?

For now, yes. But the game will feature fully playable roles in cavalry, infantry, and artillery at release.

My friend and I have been doing the Civil War games mostly but we both might buy Tunisia '43
>Suffer horrible defeat at Gettysburg
>Got too cocky and take 30k losses for only around 22k Union losses
>He follows in the retreat
>Battle of Hagerstown
>First day is a huge Confederate victory capturing 4k Union cavalry and 5k Union infantry
>Only 43k Confederates left.
>Cannot even afford to recrew cannon that have been captured and recaptured the regiments are so low on manpower
>I now await the blue tide

Great, I also play some. Haven't played any other than ww1/2 or modern. I did buy Renaissance because I love the era, but I have a hard time getting into it. Interested in the napoleonics though.

>I actually laughed out loud the whole time
But you were dying inside though.

so... this is the power... of autism
but seriously, i'm interested, where should I even begin? I looked at the games and there's so many of them

Find the time period you are most interested in and then read a manual for one of the games and or an AAR or two. Ask which game is the best for newcomers on a forum like The Blitz.

Interesting, I will see if I can pledge some money in the future.

WELCOME TO HEX AND CHIT MOTHERFUCKER

the Veeky Forums versions are fucking insane, like Campaign for North Africa

Darkest hour is probably the best worldwar 2 multiplayer game around at the moment.
even though the graphics are old. the sound effects and everything are just so great.

I really wish world war 2 online was better.

wwiionline.com/

it's got such a great concept with a huge map size and a constant on going battle system.

but it just does not seem good at all. if it was like red orchestra, apart from on a massive scale it would be fine, but it's just bad.

Played that for years with a buddy co-op tanking
>get dat tiger
>don't die once for 40 minutes
good days

Aren't they starting to make the high command portion of the game a lot more automated? I remember a couple years ago when I was young I was in a squad and HQ telling you to defend a town and loading up AT guns on trucks, driving like 30 minutes to the battle and then getting like five shots off before getting blown up. Despite how it sounds it was actually really fun back then.

i'm interested in this but I read that AI is pretty bad and just makes huge stacks to sit in their cities
Is this true or have they patched it since?

Also, has anyone played WW1 mod for HoI3?
I just want something that simulates the trench warfare with stalemate's, huge campaigns of attrition, breaking the deadlock, that kind of stuff.

I have not played the single player in To End All Wars past like one turn but that is true for Civil War II. It is really fun but you need a good group of friends to play it with.

Medal of Honor

Graviteam Tactics: Operation Star

Gary Grigsby's War in the East.

>has anyone played WW1 mod for HoI3?

Yeah, it's pretty neat. Lots of attention to detail. Though maybe it's the difficulty or AI, but I've noticed a few things. Russia gets jointly destroyed by Germany an Austria-Hungary by around 1915, and France vs Germany is either a deadlock or French steamroll. Don't think I've ever seen the UK do anything either.

Gonna suggest Steel Panthers: Main Battle Tank here too. Pretty complicated, but there's ridiculous attention to detail. I can't really do it justice myself, but I read a let's play of it a while ago which got me into it, so I'll link that instead: lparchive.org/Steel-Panthers-Main-Battle-Tank/

>Campaign for North Africa
I've heard the legends of this game. Apparently it requires two teams of 6 players each and takes 72 hours to complete a game. And it's so autistically in-depth that it simulates right down to Italian troops needing extra water so they can boil their pasta rations. Apparently nobody has ever completed a game of it.

>Russia gets jointly destroyed by Germany an Austria-Hungary by around 1915, and France vs Germany is either a deadlock or French steamroll. Don't think I've ever seen the UK do anything either.
sounds pretty realistic
reinstalling HOI3 now

>Commander-in-Chief: responsible for strategic decisions and to settle intra-team disputes.
>Logistics Commander: In charge of all supplies. Accepts supply requisitions from the others and keeps all informed of supply shortages. Is in charge of supply dumps, Third line trucks and some second line trucks and is in charge of Naval convoys.
>Rear Area Commander: Gets the supplies to the front. In charge of security, reserves, prisoners and construction.
>Air Commander: In charge of all planes and pilots. Is responsible for planning air missions and deployment of air bases.
>Front-line Commander: Executes all attacks and troop movements in the front line. Helps with coordinating defensive efforts.

>Playing time with 10 players is listed at 1200 hours.
This game sounds fucking awesome. Too bad I will probably never get to play it.

God i loved wandering around that comfy main base, if only it acted as a permanent hub

Hopefully next battlefield will be vietnam on fostbite 4

Why not just play Rising Storm 2?

youtube.com/watch?v=l_ydQHIF5MY

Curently playing World of Warships, doing maraton for that sweet Gangut. Also, Order of Battle, fucking love it.

Is there a decent playerbase? I've been considering dropping some cash for that game.

I've been replaying metal gear solid saga, and Fallout 2 but those aren't very Veeky Forums related.

I have no idea why no one ever mentions this masterpiece in these threads

the playerbase is pretty good, man. Pick that shit up.

>Always.

SH3 is the best. One of my favorite moments was was encountering a battleship and taking a shot at it. I can't remember which one it was other than it being British and it was going super fast.

>play the mod for warband first created by the devs
>me and several finns join an american regiment

Why are yanks so fucking sensitive?

you accidentally joined a regiment full of leftards instead of one full of poltards

>SH4
Am I the only one who gets the bug where all the crewmates on deck turn into paper cutouts every now and agaiin?

Jesus, I remember spending dozens of hours on this game, still remember the 29th division server.
But isn't this game's community pretty dead? I came back recently to it and it broke my heart that there were only 2 active servers with less than 10 players each...

>Play SH4
>First patrol
>Told to evacuate to Australia from Asiatic Fleet
>Go through the Moluccas
>Run into Japanese carrier fleet
>Sink the Akagi
I got smashed about 2 minutes later but it was probably the most dramatic patrol I've ever had in any SH

The best SH story I ever heard was from one of the /nwg/ guys on Veeky Forums, who somehow managed to kill two jap carriers with an S-boat. Basically he fired off his salvo, dived, and somehow got away, thought "oh maybe I hit something" and came home to MEDALS EVERYWHERE.

the 29th server and the good guys server have regulars that come on every night.

29th still gets packed out if you're on at the right time.

is it amazing.
i just think of this whenever i play that game.

SPOILER
>tfw when you slowly see where he is walking to and realize what is happening.

No matter how much i play this i'm never able to find big ships. Even when i sneak into Scapa Flow i find nothing but destroyers and fishing boats.

The best i can find is a 10,000 tons cruiser in Dover.

Stick to the convoy lanes. There's an in game map that shows you where they are. You might find some decent sized ships traveling alone early on but once the war starts to kick off they'll mostly only travel in convoys.

Never tried this.
Does the ai actually do that?
If I'm in Europe and my enemy is in Europe wouldn't I get attacked first?
