It's not really genocide in the same way involuntary manslaughter is not murder.

Favorite: James K Polk, the man accomplished everything he promised and thus had no desire to seek re-election.

Worst: I don't know, Buchanan? I tend to usually not judge presidents too negatively because they lived with the pressures of their time and we don't. But Buchanan basically caused secession to happen.

Can there be any doubt? Won a Nobel Peace Prize. Signed the Food and Drug Act. Famously critical of trusts and monopolies. Firm belief in the need for public wilderness land.

Least: Ronald Reagan

War on drugs, Reaganomics, and terrible environmental policies.

While I wanted to pick Trump, he doesn't have a full 4 year term under his belt so I will refrain for now.

My dark skinned acquaintance

why do you like andrew johnson, he is was a fucking idiot. rest of list is pretty good though

>James K Polk, the man accomplished everything he promised and thus had no desire to seek re-election.
This is such a meme. He didn't 'seek reelection' because it was part of the deal he made with the democratic party during the hung convention to get nominated in the first place. Secondly he died a scant few months after leaving office so there was never any real possibility of a second term.

Andrew Jackson

"Forced Relocation" or not, the blood of hundreds of people are in his hands.

There's no levity in that.

Then again, he did "Kill the Bank" after all, on top of surviving multiple assassination attempts.

The whole Native American thing is a thorn on what could be my favourite President.

Whatever

Soft spot for a guy who didn't deserve his Impeachment. The Tenure of Office Act was an illegal encroachment of the Legislative on the Executive, and Radical Republicans were looking for revenge.

Also appreciate any Southern Democrats who were ballsy enough to stand with the Union.

*Rad Republicans were looking for revenge over Reconstruction.

Best: LBJ

Worst: Hoover

I've been reading this and dig it. What are some of Teddy's books that I should read?

John Quincy Adams
Woodrow Wilson/ Truman

>Terrible president

This is propaganda. His policies are to thank for most of the shit Reagan is given credit for, while Reagan's awful policies ruined everything just in time for Bush Sr. to get the blame.

Best: Polk
Worst: Wilson or Bush 2

polk is a meme the posters saying he's the best, or even top 10 havent read a biography on any president guaranteed

>muh ebil natzis
Babbys first political history

Polk fulfilled all of his campaign promises, more than doubled the territory of the USA, and resigned after 1 term.

That native genocide is just another great thing he did for America. Imagine the shithole America would be if the West was still a bunch of savages worshipping buffalo.

As a Midwesterner living near a Rez, it was the right decision.

he deliberately sent americans to die so he could use their corpses as a political prop to engineer a war of conquest the fruits of which would be one of the most significant causes of the eventual civil war
he was an unremarkable politician, a middling executive and a third-rate intelligence

TR invited Booker T. Washington and his wife to the White House and a poem called Niggers in the Whitehouse was published over it.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niggers_in_the_White_House

You act as though he was the first and last president to sacrifice American lives for the sake of geopolitical power. You can't argue with the results. You act as though the civil war was not an inevitability, that states wouldn't have attempted to fight for their rights or that slavery wouldn't boil tl a point of armed conflict. Polk accomplished more than any other president in his era in a single term. His conquest was necessary for manifest destiny to be actualized and would have been inevitable. There were already American lives being threatened by the conflict between Mexico and Texas (which was effectively an American colony). To nt go to war with Mexico would be to allow Mexicl hegemony over the Americas as the dominant power, or worse another power to actually compete with.

There's a stronger case for FDR as the greatest president than anyone else besides maybe Lincoln. Even if you fundamentally disagree with his policies you can't deny he was bar none the greatest politician in American history, a president who guided the US from the depths of the worst economic depression into the most prosperous era in history, who was responsible for building the foundation that american superpower hegemony would rest on throughout the 20th century, whose political legacy was so great his party would dominate the government for the next half century. Like him or not these are all exceptional accomplishments that are practically unrivaled in American history.

Johnson was seeing Reconstruction more similar to how Lincoln wanted it. During the 1864 election the radical republicans started the Radical Democracy ticket against Lincoln as a 3rd party campaign but they dropped that.

>The identity of the author, who used the byline "unchained poet", remains unknown.
>mfw even in the early 1900s, edgy racists were keyboard warriors hiding behind anonymity and cringy screen names so they wouldn't get beat up in college.

>You act as though he was the first president to sacrifice American lives for the sake of geopolitical power
I believe he was the first.
>You act as though the civil war was not an inevitability
It possibly wasn't. The absorption of new territory destabilized the precarious balance between slave and free and essentially ruined any chance at bipartisan solutions to the dilemma of slavery, you had prominent politicians on both sides of the aisle including Henry Clay and Calhoun who both recognize this point and were both against the war. Politics after Polk would become increasingly acrimonious and partisan stemming from insecurity in the slave states over what the new territory will eventually do to their representation.
>His conquest was necessary for manifest destiny to be actualized
Manifest Destiny is a meme. Its literally a newspaper slogan. Staging what amounts to a falseflag on your own citizens to grab land by conquest over a weaker power simply because you can is not justified by rolling out an imaginary totally fabricated rationalization that 'God wanted it this way'.

Polk is only a great president when you have this warped one-dimensional understanding of history that presidential accomplishments are merely a tangible checklist to be tackled with the greatest haste. Polk would leave no political or intellectual legacy on the office of the president. He launched America into the most unpopular war in American history. His party would lose the subsequent election (probably by worse if he HAD run again, Polk was hardly a popular figure in his own time).

Everyone was racist in the 30s dude.
Stop believing liberal revisionism.

Favorite was FDR (New Deal, helping Stalin crush the Nazis), least favorite was Wilson (First red scare and getting us into a useless war.)

Favourite:Mustafa Kemal Ataturk

Least Favourite:Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Cant say either or id break the 25 year rule

Why does after Grant every president have to have a middle name?

Best: Easily Lincoln
Worst: Buchanan was a useless sack of shit. Honorable mention to Shrub for being Brush-Clearer-in-Chief and opening up giant holes in U.S. yearly deficit with the Bush Tax Cuts. I mean, he didn't aggravate the Civil War to the point it got to, but he also inherited a much much better situation.

>Trump
>worse than Buchanan
>worse than Pierce
>worse than Dubya
alright retard lmao

And his rather disastrous foreign policy. While his turn on the Soviet Union helps him considerably, it was so late it doesn't make up for everything else. Then again, this is coming from someone who's a constructivist and a firm believer in realpolitik. Others in different IR schools view him differently, but most do not speak highly of him.

Favourite: Harry S. Truman

Perhaps one of the most underrated Presidents of all time.

Finished the war against Japan, acting decisively to save American lives while sending a message to the Soviets. Avoided the blunders of Versailles in dealing with Germany. Created NATO and the Marshall Plan, rescuing Western Europe from the verge of falling into communism (in the late 1940s Europe was in such economic ruins that communists were voted in such numbers to plausibly form part of a permanent ruling political coalition in France and Italy). He confronted the Soviet Union at its strongest during the Berlin blockade and in Korea. And finally, he oversaw the orderly and successful demobilization of 12 million American troops after WW2 and the closing of the budget gap after it had gone to record levels during the war.

Least Favourite: George W. Bush

While probably not the absolute worst, he was notoriously bad. Got the US involved in a pointless war on Iraq, de-stabilizing the Middle East. Snubbed traditional US allies repeatedly (France, Germany) while brown-nosing Putin. Destroyed the fiscal surplus left by Clinton and created a record fiscal deficit with his tax cuts and reckless spending. Allowed China to manipulate its currency leading to a record trade deficit as well, with China's economy going from being less than a third of the US economy in 2000 to being 80% of the US economy in 2008, all under his watch. Stepped all over Americans' liberties with the PATRIOT Act and illegal wiretapping. Allowed the use of torture.

Great Recession started under his watch. Bailed out most of Wall Street in a deeply corrupt operation, to the tune of $700 billion paid for by the US taxpayer.

Might as well get my shit out of the way too:

Top 3 Favorite:
>Madison
Not for anything he did when President, but for being the primary author of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights
>Ike
Solid foreign policy, compromising domestic policy
>Cleveland
Probably the only President concerned with rule of law

3 Least Favorite:
>Wilson
Hit and miss president with a disastrous foreign policy
>Kennedy
Ultimately did fuck all and when he did do things... Well, he was like King Midas except everything he touched turned to shit
>Carter
Singlehandedly fucked decades worth of U.S. foreign policy and was so wishy washy domestically it's amazing he did anything of note besides the malaise speech.

Yes, I should just chug up all the conservative revisionism instead and believe that racial equality is some kind of scheme to keep the man in power.

>fiscal surplus
You misspelled ledgermain. There was no actual surplus during the Clinton years, thus continual the debt increase in his terms.

Favorite?
Taft, fantastic president who abided to the law of the land and did a fantastic job of breaking up trusts and cleaning up the mess of Teddy
Worst?
Grant, or probably Carter
Grant was not helpful in managing a crippled nation and really did fuck all and carter destroyed a mass amount of any foreign policy projection we had

>most favorite
Coolidge

>least favorite
FDR though Wilson was marginally worse

>imperial presidents

Favourite: Both Roosevelts
Least favourite: Trump
Worst: Nixon, Harding, maybe Buchanan
Most overrated: Lincoln, Kennedy
Most underrated: LBJ

Come at me

PBS/10

Fav: Teddy Roosevelt
with Polk and Coolidge rounding out the top 3

Least favorite: Wilson
George W. Bush and Grant(as president) as bottom 3

amazing pseud opinion
TR and Wilson were ideologically similar and totally the diametric opposite of coolidge

polk is just the go-to meme 'great president' for people who think they're 'too smart' to choose a washington or lincoln

man you'd have to be pretty retarded to think the 1930s was a time of racial tolerance

>Stop believing liberal revisionism.
What liberal revisionism?

The Rough Riders and his autobiography.

Favorite: Nixon
Least favorite: Trump, if he counts, Bush Jr. otherwise

Only doing modern era presidents, as I feel it is too hard to judge Presidents from previous time period without knowing the proper context

favorite- grant because ive always been a mark for the union and he seemed like a sweet guy

least favorite- that motherfucker jackson

Favorite : Lincoln/Roosevelt

Least Favorite : Nixon/George W. Bush

Grant is emperically one of the worst Presidents, your opinion is trash

James Madison, because he's underated and I'm a contrarian

Coolidge because he was terrible but people like him because he was a meme.

How on earth is Taft even remotely an imperialist?
If anything he had a limp hand regarding defense aside from defending the constitution and gained a bad reputation for reversing (then legally reclaiming) the land that roosevelt usurped
