ITT: We post our national heroes

This is Jan Žižka

He was a robber knight, and for some time a mercenary in Baltics. When Hussite rebellion broke out, he joined the rebels and quickly advanced in the ranks to a general. He introduced the wagonfort tactic, and under his leadership, Hussites fended off four crusades. He never lost a single battle.
And as you can see, he used a badass mace instead of pussy swords.

>helped to build underground state
>volunteered to Auschwitz to see how fucked up things there truly were
>fought in Warsaw Uprising, his position was never crushed by the Germans
>after WWII he was tortured and killed by Communist regime

Billy Bishop, Canadian flying ace with 72 kills throughout the war, 8 fewer than the Red Baron and more than any other pilot in the British Empire. He participated in Vimy Ridge which many Canadians consider the country's baptism by fire.

During WW2 he was given the rank of Air Marshal and helped organize British Commonwealth Air Training Plan that was important in prepping pilots for the Battle of Britain.

He was placed in charge of recruitment and his status from the first world war inspired a massive wave of applicants to be pilots.
Canada doesn't have a lot of military heroes.

>CONTEXT
Joseon Dynasty. Thus dubbed the "Land of the Morning Calm" by the Chinese, the previous Militarist, Buddhist Sovereign had befallen to a new Dynasty, preaching peace, scholarship and Confucianism. Beginning anew as a wealthy client Kingdom, the Yi Dynasty never fared better from 200 years of peace.

The Martial way had become redundant, often shunned by farmers and nobles alike, for their "barbaric" warlike nature. Even so, the man named Yi Soon Shin would rise up in a time of contradiction to become an officer for the acknowledgedly corrupt Army.

He had previously failed the Military entrance exam, barely making through the finish line with a fractured leg strapped to a self made wooden branch. But neighbourhood gossips would not dissuade him, for something sparked in the young man's heart.

Being stationed in the Amur rivers had taught the poor aristocrats son about the weakness of Joseon. Men were frail and prone to stupor. Weapons were old, untouched. Only Archery was practiced, as if to pay tribute to the marksmen of the old. Yi fought off Jurchen raids and often outnumbered to a nail biting ratio, volleying arrows one at a time to save the poor settlers up north. By 1583, he had successfuly led several campaigns against the raiders.

Yet, the government knew no respect for the beggared hero and arrested him in suspicion of stealing funds from the local garrison. Corruption was high in the courts. He was beaten, tortured and stripped of rank. And only his childhood friend, Ryu was able to bail him out.

Zizka was pretty much a combination of Lenin and ISIS.

Yi's effort was later acknowledged and was reassigned to a naval post in South Western Korea. By then, Joseon was in a state of confusion, in fear of a Japanese invasion.

In 1592, the year of Imjin, the first division landed on the parts of Busan, laying siege to a small garrison nearby, slaughtering children, mothers and soldiers alike.

Days after days the number of heavily armoured, musket taunting veterans of the Sengoku Jidai piled into the small peninsula, defeating the Northern brigade in a clean sloop. They first laid siege to Dongnae, then to Unsan, Gimhad, Changnyoung, Hyupung and the Songju. Konishi Yukinaga, wanting to force the Koreans into submission, killed every single living people they could find in walled cities.

But only rage grew in the Korean Peninsula and the peasants, P.O.Ws, Nobles alike garnered the little tools they have and waged a war of attrition on the Japanese Army.

Yi had never officially studied naval warfare in his limited time in the military academy, and neither he, nor his subordinates had experienced naval combat before the Japanese invasion. And yet, his solitary, year long preparations for the eventual war lead him to the redevelopment of the vulnerable turtleship.

>The Battle:
On May 7, at the bay of Okpo, Yi led 27 coastal galleys and 46 fishing boats to fight against the 70 boarding ships lead by Todo Takatora, who was killing and looting Korean civilians. Angered Yi attacked, swarming the panicked Japanese with superior galleys and hailing the arquebuse wielding Ashigaru with a storm of Arrows and cannons.
The Japanese raided again but fled after Yi bombarded the fleet with cannons.

Result: 26 ships destroyed on the Japanese side. Countless dead. One wounded in the Korean side.

On May 29th, at the bay of Sacheon, the Japanese descended upon the port of Yeosu, with a force of 13 giant, castle mount battleships. They fled, turning to the open sea. The Koreans pursued with Yi ordering the iron clad to spearhead the attack. Unable to board the spiked roofing of the dragon, the Japanese could do little but pepper it with musket balls.

Result: all ships destroyed on the Japanese sided. Five wounded in the Korean side including Yi. (The lead ball punctured his arm, but took it out immediately with a dagger.)

On July 8th, Admiral Yi sent out six galleys to Wakizaka's fleet, and lured it closer to the channel. The experienced commander, Wakizaka, (titled seven spears of Shuzhgatake) sent his entire 73 fleets, consisting of fast raiding ships and giant boarding ship to engage Yi's outnumbered 56 ships. Wakizaka's wit had allowed the fleet to traverse the sea in a tremendous pace and break into the Korean lines. And yet, the Joseon boats suddenly collapsed into a "crane" shape, swallowing the fleet all around. The bombardment started.

Result: 66 ships destroyed on Japanese side. 9000 dead. No ships lost on Korean side. 19 dead, 400 wounded.

The Japanese this time learnt from the previous rumours of the Joseon General and was able to deal proper damage.

After the Battle of Busan, the Japanese became extremely embellished by their loss, counting to 400s in fleet alone and their situiation was made worse after a string of failures from unable to siege entrench militia positions.

After Yi won battle after battle, Hideyoshi's supply line became thin due to the constant harassment from the Righteous Militia (composed of Old, Young, and Seon Monks.) It became worse enough for the invasion to be halted at PyongYang (North Korea's historical capital)

In turn, General Kato, enticed General Kim with double agents and asked King Seonjo (whom fled by himself to the Jurchen lands) to attack the decoy fleet. Yi refused.

As such, Yi was stripped of his ranks, relieved of command and imprisoned. He was whipped, flogged, burnt, crudgeled, and leg broken. He was spared almost death by the officials who knew of this man's atmost importance. Yi returned to his post as a common infantry soldier, Brigandine armour stripped, replaced with a cuirlass. (Either paper or steel)

This was one the beginning of Yi's resolution, driven by godly patriotism and foolhardiness, for the true test of mind was yet to come.

>"I cannot live. They killed me. Because Oświęcim [Auschwitz] compared with them was just a trifle."
Really makes you think.

>Lenin
Hussites were pretty much ISIS, no doubt about it (though they actually fought for a worthy cause), but Lenin had nowhere near the strategic skill of Žižka, and Žižka had nowhere near the economical knowledge of Lenin.
I'd compare him more to Cromwell, with his revolutionary ways of leading an army and relatively poor (common) childhood

Simon bar Kokhba
Lead a revolt against Rome and had managed to destroy 3 Roman legions and regain independence for few years, but the end was inevitable.
>Simon bar Kokhba is portrayed in rabbinic literature as being somewhat irrational and irascible in conduct. The Talmud says that he presided over an army of Jewish insurgents numbering some 200,000, but had compelled its young recruits to prove their valor by each man chopping off one of his own fingers. The Sages of Israel complained to him why he marred the people of Israel with such blemishes. Whenever he would go forth into battle, he was reported as saying: "O Master of the universe, there is no need for you to assist us [against our enemies], but do not embarrass us either!"

>le all rebels in Medieval are le literally le ISIS of their time xD
Stfu Havloid revisionist.

Dude looks way more white than (((Hitler))).

> Havloid revisionist
I didn't know Havel disliked Hussites. Also, nobody is saying that all rebels were "le literal ISIS XD", but you have to admit that Hussites, as much as we like them, I have to admit that many of them were religious extremists.
Táboriti byli komunisti.

>iam not Havloid
>Hussites were communists xDDD

It's a compliment.

Not really a national hero, he's not that famous, but he's definitely one in my eyes.
Robert Blum was based, too.

maybe for a Jew

...

history will smile upon us, can you say the same?

INMATE IN HELL OR A HERO IN PRISON, SOLDIER IN AUSCHWITZ, WHO KNOWS HIS NAME? LOCKED IN A CELL WAGING WAR FROM THE PRISON SOLDIER IN AUSCHWITZ, HE HIDES BEHIND 4859

Why Jew? It's admirable for someone to be that zealous instead of just using religion as an excuse for landgrab and moneygrab. It would be nicer if European Christians were more like ISIS in their devotion.

>Hussites were communists
That's not what I said you mongoloid. I said that SOME hussites were extremists, for example Taborites. #notallhussites

>shoot some cops
>steal some horses
>get hung
>become a national hero
Such is life.

It's hard to find German heroes nowadays that are still somehow accepted, but I'd nominate Manfred von Richthofen (The Red Baron) and Stauffenberg, especially the latter's pretty revered, the government and army love to call on him and his reactionary views are swept under the rug

Stauffenberg was a racist piece of german shit. He had no problems with using people of the east as workers.

A fine man indeed.

It's pretty funny because Stauffenberg was just as racist and anti-semitic as Hitler, the only difference between them is he didn't respect Hitler as a legitimate leader because Hitler was a filthy commoner.

>using people as workers is a bad thing

Fucking Australia

>woah-oh-oh
>thunder of guns
>may their souls rest in peace
>fighting till the end
>woah oh h

CUTE

Joshua Chamberlain, the hero of Maine

>1863
>Confederate forces under Robert E. Lee are marching north, hoping to scare the North into settling for peace
>They come to the town of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania, looking to ransack it for supplies.
>What begins as a delaying action becomes a pitched battle, with the town itself held by the Confederates while the Union forces set up south of town on a ridge.
>The end of the Union line, on a hill called Little Round Top, is held by Chamberlain's unit.
>The Confederates attack the hill, hoping to turn the flank.
>Chamberlain pivots his division so they outflank the Confederates, charging down the hill like a swinging hinge.
>The attack is broken, Chamberlain takes a Confederate officer hostage, and Lee has to commit to a frontal offensive that culminates in Pickett's charge, a devastatingly futile attack on Union lines that marks the end of the Confederate attempt to invade the North.

Rebs get fucked.

t. krautboo

thats literally what you said you negro, Táborites were Hussites

Brought the full fruit of civilization and the enlightenment to our backwards unwashed country forever ending the barbaric and fruitless wars and the exploitation of our peoples.

>thats literally what you said you negro, Táborites were Hussites
I'm saying that Taborites were extremists. Most Hussites weren't, but there were radical factions in their movement.

As I said, it's basically ignored by everyone so we can have someone to idolise

>every extremist is communist

>fight germans
>get killed by """allies"""
He should of just licked the German boots like a good little Pole

Shut the fuck up Jamal

Why he fight against a regime that kill more than 10 millions of white while treating them as animal. It is hard to see anything against white in his action. While you see that germany destroyed the white world and killed so many white.

His armor was pretty cool.
