How can Christianity make sense if Genesis is a myth?

Interpreting the bible like this makes you as much of a Brainlet as the literalists who you mock.
The biblical story is not meant to be literal, and it is obviously a metaphor for humans having free will to chose their own moral path.
Another interpretation of genesis is that it is a written record of an story that was originally told orally. Hence it being short and contradictory, as oral traditions often are.

The Bible is not supposed to be a history book and has never claimed to be a history book, it is a moral guideline which uses both true and fictitious narratives to make a point about humanity and how they should act.

genesis is not clearly marked as a ficticious narrative. in fact it has a genealogy connecting it to figures that are historical. of course it isn't a proper history according to our modern views because they didn't have an equivalent to a modern day historian. that it is a myth doesn't make it a non-literal metaphor and ignores the jewish and christian traditions which view it literally. the impossibly long ages do not make it "obvious" that it is not intended to be literal either, as we know from the Sumerian kings list that it was a common belief that the ancients lived very long lives, especially pre-flood. notice that even though the long lifetimes continue after the flood they are significantly shorter.

It's one of the reasons I left Christianity. I used to hold to a framework interpretation of Genesis (because only a fucking imbecile could possibly read Genesis as though it were a science textbook, rather than a theology of creation and account of the beginning of man's covenant relationship with God), but ultimately, the scientific data require that there be death before the Fall, so the entire structure of Scripture falls apart.

I still have a lot of respect for actual, historical, theologically sound Christianity. But it's bullshit. And the fact that its adherents are among the most depraved human beings in my country makes me unwilling even to fake it.
