We've built this entire identity around money. Acquiring more of it, fucking each other over for more of it, asking each other to give each other more of it for basic services like healthcare/education/rent/whatever, even idolizing those who are good at acquiring mass amounts of it (celebrities). In America, it's even worse.

I just want someone to explain to me why we value it more than human lives. It's a piece of paper we assigned value to ourselves.

Money is machines, as in things that do work for you and are made of an even amount of parts. Currency isn't money because its just a medium of exchange, literally monopoly dollars can be considered currency. Wanting a lot of currency means that you have hubris and greed in you, like the Spanish Empire who valued its aesthetic values and (ignored) its cursed/volatile property which caused their empire to go bankrupt multiple times.

As for why they want currency, they're uneducated and can't realize that chasing after currency is a never-ending ratrace.
