Did he really do anything wrong?

Did he really do anything wrong?

massacring civilians and starting expansionist wars

also trying to rebuild the ziggurat of Ur by constructing upon its ruins was fucking retarded, that's the willful destruction of an archaeological site for some petty nationalistic nonsense.

He tried to stabilize the Middle East.

Not nearly enough to warrant the invasion and subsequent overthrowing of his government.

He was just a US puppet who was no longer useful. idk why he gets worshipped so much.

this, dictators always go too far

>muh rocks

this

Invading Kuwait

Make Mesopotamia great again

ikr isn't he awesome

He said no to the ban- oh wait that's Libya

invade kuwait

Saddam could have set himself up to be another mubarak. a pro west arab dictator that gets money and arms to buy his favor.

>muh debts

Genociding the Kurds based off of Arab insecurity

You misspelled the United States there bud.

>be ba'athist, a nationalistic pan arabic secular socialist movement
>add "allahu akbar" to your flag

What did he mean by this?

God is great

But isn't ba'athism secular?

Secularism =/= Atheism.

And Allahu Akbar is generally used as a wish for good fortune in the Muslim World. Kinda like how Communist China still uses the traditional Chinese cheer of "Wansui" (10,000 Years)

Still, that's like writing "in god we trust" on the American flag. That shit would never fly.

You do put it in your general currency though.

>implying I'm American

Well whatever. It does work in an Arab milieu.

I mean Gaddaffi's National Anthem is titled "Allahu Akbar."

>but what about
he asked what saddam did wrong, I told him

its just a bigger part of their cultural heritage, and as the other user said just because they were a secular government doesn't mean they were an atheist one.

The flag of Egypt has it, despite being similarly a secular regime. (as do Iran and saudi arabia obviously)

Guess even secular Arab states were still semi religious. How come edgy fedora atheism is exclusively a western thing?

The West has always dwelled on absolutes.
>REEE YOU CAN'T BE BOTH X AND Y!!!
>FENCESITTER!!!!

Was it always like this? Did centrists exist in the 19th century?

That was part of the faith campaign after the Gulf War in order to appease the populace. Saur Afghanistan did something similar under Najibullah. Saddam was still largely a secular leader. For instance, he supported orthodox serbs over muslims in Yugoslavia.
Kuwait deserved it.

Attacking Iran

Why does atheism have to edgy? There are plenty of atheists who are fine with religious people as long as they don't try to impose their beliefs on them.
Also, East Asia is majority agnostic. I also know some upper-caste Hindus who are agnostic but consider themselves Hindu anyways, because to them Hindu is more of a cultural identifier than a religious one. I think the same thing is true for Westerners. Non-religious Westerners are still culturally Christian, it's just that Christian ideas are so deeply ingrained in their worldview that they don't even realize it.

>Why does atheism have to edgy?
In the west it sure as fuck is.

He was a CIA stooge put in place to take out the leftist pro soviet wing of the baath party. After the cold war he was of no use anymore and he got spit on and executed by the people he used to slaughter en masse. This is what you get for trusting the americans.

real life is not memes

goodbye means god by with you, it doesnt stop atheists saying it

>restoration is bad lmao just let everything decay

le """"right-wing""""" revisionism

Yes, he was shit but so are the USA. Death to all.

He did something very, very stupid. He tried to bluff the US by acting like he was developing WMDs (while denying it, he was also careful to continue hiding sites and otherwise acting like he had an ongoing WND program) at a time when the US was not in the mood to be bluffed by a third-rate dictator.
