They always told them something like 'We're changing trains, this is delousing before the new train' or pretend it was a work camp. Controversial story. For two reasons.
1) It was always supposed to be mass suicide. The uprising lasted really one day. The rest was just Germans going from house to house and killing everybody. The problem is that many civilians had their own plans to escape that were interrupted by the uprising started by two military organizations. Many more people could've survived.
2) That one battle was fought by the right wing organization Jewish Military Union. Most of its leaders died in fighting. Left wing Jewish Fighting Organization had more survivors including one of its leaders Marek Edelman. In later years they were minimizing the contribution of JMU basically calling them fascists.

I'm certain there were prisoner riots in the camps. The thing about the Germans is that they ran really tight prisons. Actually developed the modern gun-tower design, where a POW prison yard is built around maximizing the sight-lines of machine gun teams. In an effective prison there's close to nothing you can do to escape, and those odds were reduced further by the fact that the SS didn't make a robust prisoner-guard relationship, pretty much anyone the Germans were having problems with would just be shot. Plus your capability to fight back is strongly hindered by starvation rations, etc. Made sense to keep your head down and hope to god for liberation
