A good deal of the Nazi support was gained from the prosaic policies they tailored to specific districts. It's common to think of Nazi appeals entirely in the bombastic oratory of Hitler but before he was chancellor the NDSAP ran a cynically calculating campaign of promising a district whatever they wanted to hear even if it contradicted what they might say to another one. Promising higher agriculture prices and access to greater markets in rural districts and protectionism in industrial districts. A lot of citizens voter for the Nazis out of pure self interest and thats what the NDSAP primarily appealed to.

Radical movements usually seize power when the political establishment fails to address significant problems.

In Hitler's case it was war debt repayment, unemployment, financial instability, resource shortages, declining birthrate, cultural changes, increasing concentration of wealth, geopolitical isolation, unbalanced balance of power, looming Soviet military expansion, left-wing radicals seeking to put Germany in the Soviet sphere, etc.

Like an onion, they tried to have a clean conservative outside while keeping the violent, twisted stuff on the inside. They didn't run their campaign on exterminating people. They ran on defending their nation and helping improve the economy. It's easy to forget this in hindsight.

They weren't taking seriously until the Great Depression. If an economic crises on the scale of the Great Depression were to happen again, the fringe radical groups (Both Communist and Fascist) will become the dominant parties in their countries.
