Without segregation in the 19th and 20th century Black people in the US would be extinct right now. They would have been assimilated into the much larger white population (almost 90% before the 1950s) and subsumed. There would only be some 1/64 "Black" White people in the Southern US.

Segregation assured that American Blacks remained a distinct and relatively homogeneous community and now this community can be used to destabilize the US.
