The only scenario where that excuse is even remotely justifiable is with Andersonville prison during the Civil War. And that's because Commandant Wirz is known to have sent paroled Union soldiers to both Richmond and Washington to beg for exchanges to resumed, his trial was riddled with procedural errors (including a key witness who had a false identity), and the Confederate civilian population itself was on the verge of starving to death by the time the war ended.

There is no excuse for what how the Nazis let living conditions in the concentration camps degrade to a state lower than a the poorest peasant's pigsty. Same goes with the Soviets and the Gulags. They had plenty of resources to keep the prisoners in at least livable conditions, they intentionally disregarded their safety because the intact of the camps was to exterminate. The prisoners were never intended to survive.

Gross-Rosen, Ravensbruck, and Sachenhausen were all liberated by the Soviets, and all of them had significant numbers of prisoners dead. In fact, even the "regular" concentration camps usually had death tolls in the tens of thousands from criminal mistreatment.

I don't think there is one correct bit of information in this image at all....I will comment on a few things in it however.

1. Most of the death camps were located in Poland and east of Poland because that's where the majority of Jews in Europe lived. (Why would they build a death camp in France and ship Jews all the way to the other side of the continent?) This argument never made much sense.

2. The camps liberated by western allies were "death factories" in the sense like the true death camps in the east were. They were mainly transient camps or work camps. You could hardly blame a western liberator who declared them a death camp when tens of thousands of malnourished dead and dying are penned into these camps and especially without knowledge of true death camps further to the east.
