Not exactly a South Korean, but rather a communist Spaniard that went so butthurt after the fall of the Berlin wall that run into North Korea looking for "another communist paradise" and no only he found it, he even became a diplomatic representative and got North Korean citizenship along a comfy position within the elite.
So yes, there is some people that actually go into these places willingly and is not for the worst, but I would say that's mostly luck and a lot of propaganda telling you how great your life would be in the best Korea.

Some did (though admittedly not as much as the other way around). Before the Berlin Wall was built you could just take a tram or trolley to the other side.
