Everyone was nice and polite, but it reminded me of the feeling of being a foreigner in another country. I'd imagine that both Catholics and Orthodox would transition to a doctrine very similar to that of Eastern Catholics(who are already very Orthodoxy in practice, they even have wives), it helps that the last leader of the Orthodoxy(the Metropolitan) died centuries ago so it wouldn't be hard for the Pope to step in and fill that role

Russian orthodox here. Fasting cleans your mind and body (at least that's what I feel from it). Plus it actually makes me happy to stick to such an old tradition.

Read the bible(keeping in mind that much of the original teaching of Christ has been lost with time and other parts are basically fanfiction written by the Paul and the apostles), read the Gnostic gospels, read the works of St Augustine and then make up your own mind as to what Church, if any that you want to become a part of. The teachings of the bible can also be read as a secular work of philosophy, not just as a work of God
