Empire of Japan vs British Empire

WW2 scenario:
If the war in Europe never occurs, but Japanese invasion of British territory in the Pacific still takes place, who would win between Britain and Japan if the US also doesn't get involved (no lend lease). This is assuming both countries are as they were in 1939.

What would take place (summed up)?

My initial thoughts are that Japan very quickly gobbles up Singapore, Malaysia, bunch of islands and fairly swiftly seizes Burma. The size of the Royal navy in the Pacific is perhaps too small to effectively best the IJN. Japan stops at India and from then on i know not what may happen.

>No WW2 in Europe or Indian/Australian units in the middle east/Africa
>Literally nothing changes

They would get crushed by the Anglo.
Japan have shown to be unable to challange any power that weren't a failed state or a colony of a state that was occupied with another war or litterally.

Even before the war in Europe, Japan had expanded into the Asian continent.

They might get a quick upper hand in gaining islands and the city-states, but India and Australia will halt them long enough for the British to shift their fleet to the Pacific, then they will start chipping away at the Japs until they at least get their colonies back. They will probably ignore china and the other colonies, go straight to Japan and force the Japs to accept a peace treaty based on whatever territory they have left and a trade treaty that is favourable to the British.

It was the British that built the Jap navy, I can't see why the Brits also can't eventually beat them.

Did Japan have the manpower to take India?

>did Japan have the manpower to take a sub continent

They didn't even have the manpower to take Singapore, they just got lucky there.

How did they get lucky?

>go straight to Japan and force the Japs to accept a peace treaty
How could the British alone accomplish that? They don't have the atom bomb, and their battleships and carriers are a far sight worse than the Americans.

>then they will start chipping away at the Japs until they at least get their colonies back
You mean Churchill sallies battleships to teach dem damned slant-eyes a lesson and gets half the RN sunk.

Japan was hilariously ahead of everyone else in the world in carrier operations, which in this theater will be the decisive factor.

combination of the brit general there being a coward and the japanes executing a feint masterfully

So they didn't get lucky, they had a good commander while the British had a British commander.

not at all. their best bet would be to try and provoke a large-scale indian mutiny.

really a bit of both. even the japanese knew it was a hail-mary play.

>if the US also doesn't get involved (no lend lease).
no chance of this happening, absolutely zero chance of the US just sitting back and watch japan dominate east asia under any circumstance.

Well they could rely on the British Empire for defence. Also it's only fair if USA is out of the picture otherwise it would be overkill.

Also Britain was the first country with an atomic bomb programme (Tube alloys) and without the cost of war with Germany they probably could've completed it. What do people think of this?

Japan certainly has a shot due to proximity alone. Replacing naval losses down there would be much harder for Britain.

I too think that Japan has the home advantage as it would be logistically easier. I also think Japan would be stretched too thin if it tried to take Australia and India though.

Japan because they had the moral high ground during the war. They weren't out to conquer territories or exploit them like the European/western imperialists wanted to, instead they wanted to liberate Asia from western imperialism and exploitation and bring harmony and unity to Asia again and also stamp out communism and imperialism wherever it came from. The Japanese would have won simply because they had their divine Emperor that led them to victory against all odds. It was this national spirit that would ensure a Japanese victory against the white forces in the Far-East. Japan was to be the great savoir and liberator from the western exploiters and bandits.
