I was not well-suited to civilian life. Many marines are not. I think the corps attracts a disproportionate number of violent guys and gives them an outlet. Once they get out, they don't have an outlet.

Not saying I'm blameless, that's just my take on it.

A few fights and a few nights in solitary at the beginning taught me to keep my head down pretty early. Saw some stupid motherfuckers in there though.

In my jail they did, but that was because there were 4 major people who were in the military who were there and then a couple of other people who just completely kept to themselves and didn't do shit.

I get the feeling that if we hadn't had such great people who were ex-military that they'd just get ignored but they had a pretty good reputation in my county.

It's designed to break your spirit and turn you into a caged animal. The shit I can't describe is far worse than any of that shit.

Not having any control over your day-to-day life is horrible. The surreal experience of existing without agency or recourse breaks everyone after a while. So most choose to give in and shut their minds off.

You play cards, talk, exercise, and do whatever to get through the next chunk of time, whether it's a few minutes or hours. Reapeat this a few thousand times and the years just disappear.

Dumb assholes did stupid shit and people fought and sometimes even killed one another, but most of us just sat around trying not to think. The real horror is watching yourself become less than human and not being able to stop it.

Federal is usually a lot less personal than county in my experience. There are some upsides, but I can't really say I had friends in prison. In jail I did, as transitory as they were. But in prison everyone was at the level of intimacy of people waiting at the bus stop.

So much dumb shit went down that was almost always met with somebody muttering "If we were upstate he'd be dead/in the hole/on the ground with a dick in his ass right now." County seemed like an opportunity to bulk up for those going upstate or federal and a waiting room for everyone else.

Pretty much. You can get away with more obviously dumb shit in county. But contraband and more subtle shit is the norm in prison. It's the difference between weeks and months versus years and decades. It's just a game of maintaining the status quo because it is easier to get through the day that way, if that makes any sense.

i pay about 10 to 15 dollars for a family pack of chicken in my area. At two pieces of chicken breast a day it lasts me 3-5 days depending on how many they toss in. Usually about 4 days.

Groceries for me comes to 100-150 per week in order to eat IIFYM diet plan.

Also, most people I know eat quality foods and junk. It just becomes to many calories.

For instance my mother will eat wholesome meals but she tosses in huge bags of popcorn, wine, cookies, and other arbage as a day to day thing. Most people I know are like this.

On special in NZ it's $9/kg, normally its $16/kg. Our food is stupidly expensive even though we proportionally grow more food for export than other countries. Yay global economy eh?
