Patently false, Flanders and Brabant were very wealthy regions for most of history, the reversal in early Belgian history was unusual and Wallonia's wealth largely came from it's vast amounts of easily accessible coal, which quite obviously would not have had a contributing factor before the industrial revolution.

Flems were poorfucks because the Walloons used Flanders to prop up Wallonia. Up to 99% of Flanders GDP was moved directly to Wallonia. Flanders and Brabant were some of the richest regions in Europe historically. The county of flanders bankrolled the entirety of France during certain parts of the middle ages.

Incidentally one of the reasons Belgium declared independance from the Netherlands was because Orange wanted to use the southern provinces to prop up the northern dutch ones.
