British, American and French citizen, author of the Common Sense, one of the kicker of the American Revolution, French deputy, voted to spare the life of Louis XVI, called Napoleon "an impostor", condemned for sedition in Britain, etc... among other stuff.
He died poor and alone. Trully a fascinating character.
