What is \fit\s opinion on running? Will it fuck up my knees in the long run? Would cycling be better? Speak

Running is harder
So it will be more taxing on you in the short run (out of breath etc)
But you will get 'more out of it' per say than cycling

If you enjoy running. By all means do it. I enjoy cycling a lot more so it's what I stick to

It will fuck up your knees but so will life eventually. I'd stay start with the running and move onto the cycling after.

I'm pretty shur getting your knees fucked is a meme by now, unless you run ultra marathons for 20 years or some bullshit, running will strengthen your ligaments/knees. On top of that you're gonna develop your heart and lungs, if you're really scared about your knees exploding(which you shouldn't be) just supplement MSM and glucosamine.

Sauce: been running on and off for last 10 years of my life and my knees are doing fine, your squat numbers might suffer though but tradeoff is worth it imo.

>running fucking up your knees
>the most simple and natural movement a mammal can do will fuck up your knees
>running which our ancestors have done 24/7 millions of years ago will fuck up your knees
>running will fuck up your knees
>fucking running

I will have bad sleep tonight.

It would be a issue if you weighed 300lbs

Ya I have run consistantly since grade school was a two sport athlete still run mini marathons 26 now... came down with it band syndrome aka runners knee so switched to elyptical not my first choice but don't want to make it any worse... Guess the point is if it starts hurting stop but you should be fine and there's other options

I changed my running style several years ago from heal striking to staying on the balls of my feet. At first it burned my calves but now my calf muscles are defined and knee problems weren't

run barefoot
run sprints

Runners knee

It can be tough on joints, I was recommended by a top sports doctor in Australia not to run on concrete/road after getting knee surgery.

IMO swimming is master race.

Only squatting deep will hurt your knees tbqh

>running on concrete with rubber flaps on the bottom of your feet
>natural movement

Cycling is much more satisfying cardio, started with jogging but I always had knee pain. Tried running correctly, got some better shoes, it helped some, but not completely. Never have trouble with cycling now though, I love it.

stick to swimming cycling and walking for cardio.

>implying you have any idea how gait mechanics work

You realize we change our gait when wearing shoes and the rubber absorbs a huge amount of the force that goes into our joints, right?

or are you just another uneducated 4channer spewing BS?

Retard

HE'S RIGht though

Source.

As a Physical Therapist, exercise physiologist, and movement specialist I can tell you right now this is not true, so go ahead and cite.

the burden of proof is on you my friend :)

>Will it fuck up my knees in the long run?

You need to learn how to run with a good, elastic form rather than plodding like a fucking retard.

no its not. its on you. You made the claim jack ass

just another NEET spreading misinformation. You dont even work out

>I will have bad sleep tonight.

Because your knees are fucked from running?

I ran for like 8 years every day. Recently quit and am focusing on lifting, but no, it definitely did not fuck up my knees. It DID make them crack, painlessly, when standing up.. but this has not once in those 8 years caused me a single problem. In fact, i think running set me up for insane leg day hypertrophy. Also gave me awesome endurance and i walk fast AF which is very useful if you don't drive.

Also, CALVES.

Yet another armchair retard attempts to peddle his bullshit. Either provide a source for your claim or stop whining.

>MFW a newfag suggest running in my general vicinity

you are the idiocy ruining the western world

why do we care if uneducated heathens come here when I wouldn't be able to differentiate you from them

...

Running is honestly not as simple as people think it is. I'd learn proper running form--forward tilt, smaller strides, faster pace of steps--before anything else. I'd also wrap my knees or wear a knee brace because I wish I had done this BEFORE I fucked my knees up rather than waiting for it to get bad and then trying to minimize damage. Make sure you have good running shoes or you can really fuck your feet up too. Brooks makes good shoes; they're expensive as fuck but worth it. New Balance makes some good stuff too but only the expensive stuff is worth using since the cheaper shit isn't really built for serious running.

Other general tips
-Running is NOT a good way for overweight people to lose weight. You'll absolutely murder your joints and plantar plates if you're significantly overweight. I speak from experience. Use an elliptical machine, bike or do power walking.
-Running is good for somewhat fit people to get fitter, or people who are only kind of out of shape to lose 15 lb at most.
-You want to take short, frequent strides rather than long, loping strides to minimize the impact on your joints. This is true for any sized runners but especially if you're 150+ lb.
-Make sure you're running on grass or an outdoor track, especially if you're above 150 lb. The only people who can get away with running long distances on pavement or treadmills are tiny people who have excellent running form. Everyone else will fuck their shit up.
-Don't forget to stretch after you're done.

You've been warned.

Sauce: 6'2, 210 lb runner running for 15 years now.

Running is what humans are evolved to fucking do.

>running is bad for your knees

>2016
>people still buy into 90's health memes

By the way guys, make sure you don't include ANY fats into your diet. Also, bread and grains are the most important food group!

Anyways, catch y'all later, I'm gonna go do some crunches to target the fat on my stomach!

Evolved... Running on earth/grass is entirely different from running on asphalt.

No, it's on you retard. You make the claim, you back it up.

>humans
>Millions of years old

the rubber simulates running on soft earth but as you mentioned your gait changes from the one we presumably developed 'naturally'. So your argument that it's a safe and effective movement because it's 'natural' and time honored doesn't hold up.

>you: blah blah blah
>him: prove it
>you: the burden of proof is on you!

Cycling puts less stress on your knees. And running sucks balls.

dis faggot ass nigga fit mang gets it

>start with the running and move onto the cycling
why would you start with the harder one

if you were gonna start anywhere you'd start with the easier, low impact one, then move onto the more challenging one if you want/need

>sitting all day will fuck up your back and hips
>sitting
>the most simple and natural movement a mammal can do will fuck up your back and hips
I'm with you all the way m8

>I'd also wrap my knees or wear a knee brace
>implying a knee brace will do anything to absorb striking impact

>uneducated poor logic

>being this sarcastic while being this wrong

I'm gonna quickly say what people don't seem to fucking grasp:
>it depends on what you are currently adapted to

if you've been running your whole life, your body is ADAPTED to that shit, and has be slowly adapting as your got heavier and bigger and older (i.e as the movement is more stressful), so even though you're 50lbs heavier and 20 years older, its not a sudden change.

if you've been on your ass for the last few years, you are ADAPTED to sitting on your ass. running is severely stressful on joints adapted to doing fuck all. no matter what people want to say, impact stress is a thing inherent in running, and a stress not apparent in the average lifestyle, therefore not adapted to do.

CHEAT SHEET
>do only a little bit more than you are currently adapted to
>allow rest and recovery
>track progress and recovery
>adjust training/lifestyle according to progress/recovery
>repeat cycle
shits not hard

Worst cardio possible
Yes, it will
Swimming is better

start with running because when your 50 you wont be able to run any more and will need to cycle.

humans have evolved to run humans are the best at running long distances

i agree with your last point

i think the worse cardio is the elliptical as your just gliding might as well be cycling down hill

i can run for hours but i cant swim continually for long periods of time?

>start with running because when your 50 you wont be able to run any more and will need to cycle.
you're obviously very young if you think people past the age of 50 won't be able to run. 50 is not that old, little guy - they can easily run again.

>humans have evolved to run humans are the best at running long distances
idk why you put that out their because its irrelevant to the point and doesn't counter anything i've said, if it's even meant to counter anything at all - you just tossed out a slightly relevant buzzphrase repeated in this thread

but yes, we have the biology and anatomy to be very good runners - that is completely irrespective of what the person is adapted to or their ability to run currently. this is what you people dont get. going "muh evolution" doesn't actually mean anything.

you put
>uneducated poor logic
against
>Running is what humans are evolved to fucking do.

older people tend to come away from running due to injury and knee pain even though allot of older people do run.

>being a samefag newshit

see you've done it again, you've said a bunch of words as if its an argument, but there appears to be no point.

are you saying that because "running is what humans are evolved to do", that running cannot possibly be harmful?

then following it up by saying "old people can get injured from running"?

are you 12 or what.

what

i'm willing to bet your 250lb and under 6ft

>still no actual point
I'm evidently talking to an actual retard.

have fun with whatever you were trying to accomplish here m8

enjoy your pizza

thanks grandma
go run naked in the forest if naturality bothers you so much
OP can we get some size measurements? running is naturally easier for manlets, just as tall people and/or fat people tend to have more knee problems.
kek

>thanks grandma
Your grandma swims? Good for her.
