>"The Roman Republic was a short-lived state declared on February 9, 1849, when the government of Papal States was temporarily replaced by a republican government due to Pope Pius IX's flight to Gaeta. The republic was led by Carlo Armellini, Giuseppe Mazzini, and Aurelio Saffi. Together they formed a triumvirate, a reflection of a form of government seen in the ancient Roman Republic."

No, this was.

long foot is long

>Be literal romans
>Found a republic
>Call it roman republic
What do you think they should have done user?

Imitation is the highest form of flattery.

The fuck is this this?

There was no intention to imitate ancient Rome. It was a republic and it was centeredaround the city of Rome, how the fuck would you have called it?

American wewuzzism. USA symbolism from the 19th century is pretty much all ripped off ancient Rome.

>a republic
>founded in Rome

>Be literal romans
not after germanic invasion, they dont even speak latin and italian language has many germanic words

He meant as in people from the city of Rome, which they were. There was no nation of Italy yet, and they didn't identify with the papal states, so it was the republic of rome.

this is why i come here

and a little we wuz egyptians for good measure

granted, the US actually became a modern-day Roman Empire in terms of power, so good for them on not embarrassing themselves with all these classical buildings in the capital

WE

No wonder Hitler envied our wewuzing powers

Why were the founding fathers such die hard romaboos? I mean if they were gonna do it why didn't they bring back the cool red flag and togas?

because they were students of the Enlightenment and its love of all things classical, especially in pointing to Rome and the Greeks as models of successful democracy
this is the same reason the French Revolution was led by Romaboos

the reason they didn't go full-toga is cause of their Anglo-puritan convictions, which were much more sensible and conservative than lets say the French

Bump for actual history
