Today I watched the movie Fury...

Today I watched the movie Fury, and there are multiple instances in the movie where the characters refer to SS officers hanging German women and children who refused to fight the allies after Hitler had declared total war. Is there any historical basis to this, or is it just an example of Hollywood embellishment?

> The radio announced that Hitler had come out of his safe bomb-proof bunker to talk with the fourteen to sixteen year old boys who had 'volunteered' for the 'honor' to be accepted into the SS and to die for their Fuhrer in the defense of Berlin. What a cruel lie! These boys did not volunteer, but had no choice, because boys who were found hiding were hanged as traitors by the SS as a warning that, 'he who was not brave enough to fight had to die.' When trees were not available, people were strung up on lamp posts. They were hanging everywhere, military and civilian, men and women, ordinary citizens who had been executed by a small group of fanatics. It appeared that the Nazis did not want the people to survive because a lost war, by their rationale, was obviously the fault of all of us. We had not sacrificed enough and therefore, we had forfeited our right to live, as only the government was without guilt. The Volkssturm was called up again, and this time, all boys age thirteen and up, had to report as our army was reduced now to little more than children filling the ranks as soldiers.

- Dorothea von Schwanenfluegel, Berlin Resident.

Today I watched the movie Furry and I think I would have been less traumatized by Nazis comitting war crimes

kek
it actually potrays the ss correctly though

>Hollywood war movies about America beating nazis
I think I'd rather watch paint dry.

>Is there any historical basis to this,
It happened constantly. People who didn't believe in the end victory, who didn't evacuate their home town when the nazis told them to and people who spread peace propaganda were killed, often in cold blood. If they were lucky they got a kangaroo court, if unlucky they just got murdered.

lel thats a pretty hitlarious comic

I enjoyed that movie, but the early tank scenes where they show the tanks working together with infantry were the best part. The tank battle with the Tiger was pretty ridiculous for a number of reasons, their tank was an easy 8 Sherman which would have been able to penetrate a Tiger 1's frontal armor. Then it got a little ridiculous at the end when it became 300 2: America's Revenge, even though SS infantry units were definitely known for pointlessly wasting men on boneheaded frontal assaults.

pretty cool scene

wtf is this comic lol

good image

You call that a "battle scene"?
>germans miss literally every single shot
>the one that actually connects ricoche'd
>meanwhile MURICA one-shots everything
Talk about plot-proof armor plating

That's more a last days in Berlin thing

>Talk about plot-proof armor plating
It gets worse, there's a scene where they headshot a German officer with the tank gun

Yes, it was common in 1944 and 1945. I don't know about earlier. For example in Breslau the SS under the command of Karl Hanke executed the deputy mayor Wolfgang Spielhagen. Apparently some 1000 people were killed for cowardice, defeatism and pessimism.

Read the picture attached to that post?

>executed for pessimism
god damn

It gets better.

>Hanke noted he only had two tanks at his disposal, and weaponry that was either outdated or captured from previous campaigns in Poland, Russia and Yugoslavia. Even so, Hanke stubbornly refused to order an evacuation of civilians until January 19, 1945. By this time the majority of transport links had been smashed by Soviet shelling, forcing many evacuees to leave the city on foot. With temperatures sinking to -15˚C, an estimated 100,000 people froze to death during this ill-fated evacuation, with other reports of children trampled to death in the chaos that ensued at the train station.

ch the residential area between the Szczytnicki and Grunwaldzki bridges was levelled in order to build an improvised airstrip that would, in theory, be Breslau’s connection to the outside world. The enormous project was a disaster. With rations only issued to those working, civilians were forced to work under fierce fire and as a result over 13,000 died when the Soviets shelled the area (mostly slave laborers)

>A full five days after the Battle for Berlin had ended, Breslau finally capitulated on May 6th, the peace deal signed at the villa on ul. Rapackiego 14. The day before Karl Hanke, the very man who had ordered the execution of anyone caught fleeing the city, took off from Breslau’s makeshift runway in a plane reserved specifically for his escape.
It was the only plane that left Breslau before the Soviets entered the city.

I hate that movie, pure propaganda

The flying court martials were mostly carried out during the Battle of Berlin. Berlin was the center of the NSDAP power aparatus, and the final days of the Gotterdammerung were the breaking point where the party fanatics were driven to such extremes of cognitive dissonance that these executions seemed like a good idea, and where the party rule made them practical without much risk of instigating revolt or reprisal from civilians. The movie obviously transposed these events to another time and place for dramatic effect, but something like them did happen.

Fury is absolute fucking trash. Obviously there have been far more inaccurate movies, but they can be forgiven because they're usually character and plot driven. Fury on the other hand has not one likeable character and the story is nonexistent.

Hey at least Tiger 131 got to be driven around a bit

The story is WOAR

As much as I am a kike and hate Nazi Germany I have to say I was slightly put off from the disgusting unhistorical Hollywood embellishment.

>multi ethnic crew because AMERICA
>American soldier immediately get's to banging a German after playing the piano or some shit.
>then cries when Germans bomb their own civilians which makes him angry that his Deutsch fraufu is gone.
>one stationary tank able to kill a bunch of soldiers because non of them can aim straight or surround a tank.
>fucking SS soldier let's an american live after that very same soldier and his crew killed around 50 or more of his comrades.

>fucking SS soldier let's an american live after that very same soldier and his crew killed around 50 or more of his comrades.
That's probably the most realistic and sincere moment in the shitfest tbqh

How ? wasn't the SS mostly made out of super loyal fanatics to Nazi Germany ?
How is it normal for a fanatic or at least someone whom was drafted to a group of fanatics to let an American which is invading your country and just killed probably some of your friends off the hook ?

The SS by this point was conscripting (they were initially forbidden to not piss off the Heer) so instead of fanatics you're getting ethnic Germans from all over Europe and what the Wehrmacht rejected in a lot cases

>after he escaped he surrendered to some Czech partisans who then shot him and beat him to death with their rifles when he tried to escape
G*rman autism lul

how so?

Did you see the battes?

German woman having sex with that beaner

>multi ethnic crew because AMERICA
>American soldier immediately get's to banging a German after playing the piano or some shit.
>then cries when Germans bomb their own civilians which makes him angry that his Deutsch fraufu is gone.
There is nothing strange or ahistorical about those.

Also, I'm 99% sure that you're not a kike and are probably a Werhaboo retard.

They were whoring themselves to whoever. Get a grip.

Yes, it happened, but it wasn't just the SS who did it. Heer Field Police went around hanging people as well.

Not really. It goes in for the time old trope of SS = monsters, Wehrmacht = gud bois who dindu nuffin

>Get a grip
What about the battles?

They didnt make any sense and none of that would happen in real life

German whores were sucking Allied cock the first chance they got. Hell even the commies were facefucking them after the war.

German sluts.

Actually mixed crews were incredibly rare until the desegregation of the army

>wasn't the SS mostly made out of super loyal fanatics to Nazi Germany ?
No, not really. It attracted many of those people, but it wasn't entirely composed of them. The SS had begun taking conscripts in 1943, and prior to that plenty of people joined simply out of ambition and the desire to belong to what was seen in Germany as an elite unit, rather than political fanaticism.

I guess you've never heard of Audie Murphy.

Then behold, for I am the 1% !
And no I'm not a Werhaboo. In fact another fact that bothered me about the movie was
>the fact that the SS where so feared when in truth they where one of the worst units Germany had.
>5 Sherman tanks could not properly engage a single Tiger and decided to do a retarded frontal charge when in truth what they would do is to fan out and flank it using their superior speed.

Plus although today it's acceptable and more common, is right and it was really rare for that to happen.

>the SS where so feared when in truth they where one of the worst units Germany had
Entirely depends on the unit, I can see what they were going for, although by the time Fury takes place pretty much all of them were shit full of disillusioned and rejected draftees with dogshit commanders. Should have set it in Falaise instead when the SS had some small victories

Not all easy 8's had the 76mm gun

>Multiethnic crew.
Literally what, only Pena's character was the only one nonwhite in Fury. And Spics did serve in WWII.

Segregation only applied to blacks, you kike. Jesus, they didn't even segregate Asians. With the exception of the Nisei Japanese Americans (for fear of Nip treachery) and Filipinos (who were a US Commonwealth at the time), Asian minorities like Chinese Americans were simply stuck into existing units since there were so few of them to begin with.

>shells bouncing off a nearly 90 degree unsloped surface

What did you expect? We are talking about a country that only attacks former allies like Iraq and Egypt, then attacks countries who give up their weapons of mass destruction programs, like Libya and Syria, then wonders why countries like Iran and NK want nukes. 'Real' threats like Russia and China and they shit themselves. There were never bigger bullies...ever.

>inb4 Israel

OK, they're a close second

>100,000 people froze to death
I think people forget how big these numbers that get spread around are. I dont dispute that it happened but for that many people to die in such a short time from freezing is ludicrous.

>but something like them did happen.
The problem with fury, is the entire movie is built around fringe extremes. Yes many of the things pictured (although in the movie it's heavily stylized and exaggerated) but when everything is happening all the time one after another on screen it paints a far more hellish version of war than what would really have transpired.

The best movies take just a few events (ones that suit) and keep it grounded. But movies like Fury just throw all the shit they can at the wall. The build up of shit gets so big that it all crumbles and people find the movie ridiculous.

Europoors are so fucking pathetic

>Hollywood doesn’t seem to know the basics of actual battles
What else is new?

It happened but so late in the war and so far behind the front line that it's almost impossible for a random US tank crew to know it.

>>multi ethnic crew because AMERICA
Except that happened you fucking idiot. 500,000 Mexican-Americans served in WW2 (3% of the 16.2 million who served), roughly proportional to their share of the population. The majority of them were mestizos. They weren't in segregated units either. Not even full-blooded Native Americans were. Jewish-Americans served in WW2 too, again in non-segregated units. About 600,000 of them.
>>American soldier immediately get's to banging a German after playing the piano or some shit.
Also happened.
>>one stationary tank able to kill a bunch of soldiers because non of them can aim straight or surround a tank.
That also happened (see Audie Murphy), and also German troop quality by April of 1945 was dreadful. Especially the SS which was always an under-equipped paramilitary force.

Yeah, in real life that Tiger in the final scene would have been penned instantly by the 76mm gun, no need to flank.

Wow, it's almost like they were using the German kid as some kind of parallel, or something?

>Tiger
>final scene

The Shermans vs Tiger battle is half way through...

>Jewish-Americans served in WW2 too, again in non-segregated units.
Why would they have been segregated? They're all white... Also is "jewish americans" a thing? Are there also "protestant americans", "catholic americans" and so on?

same user. I'm going to need books/whatever poof you can find so I can learn from my mistakes and foolishness.

foreigners really do have their heads up their asses..

lel

>The flying court martials were mostly carried out during the Battle of Berlin.
Read Beevors Battle for Berlin. The killings of civilians started once the russians came unto german soil in eastern prussia

Beevor's books should be taken with a grain of salt

As with every book but it's a good entry point. Thing was, the germans started killing german citizens early.

So what's a better book about the final period of the war, specifically the Battle of Berlin?

I think they took that from this book.

>Hating on Fury

It's WAY better than the shit Hollywood used to produce. Have you guys even seen Saving Private Ryan? Its so fucking cheesy and cliche.

>in eastern prussia
So very far from where the action takes place.

Yeah, but nobody is going to say M4A3(76)W HVSS every time.

the point was that a 75mm wouldn't have penned the tiger from the front

But the tank is obviously equipped with a 76.

I still need to see it.

>Refusing military or civilian service in war time
>Especially during retreat
>Court martialed and executed
Yeah, what country with conscription military did and does not do this when martial law is active?

Yes, that happened more towards the end of the war. Hitler gave orders to kill anyone who tried to flee from fighting.

Dud shells are a thing you know, it happens, not as often as Fury depicts, but it happens. I'm more interested in why the Tiger makes literally no attempt to not present its rear armour

>omg the ending is so unrealistic! as if some american kid could hold off a hord of muh elite ubermensch soldaten!

Murphy was calling in artillery though, which completely changes the scenario on its own

anyone have that story from a while back here about that guys whos grandpa was in the heer and towards the end, they were escorting civilians from a town about to get #rekt by the soviets, then some SS officer came up and told them they needed to draft all the men in the town (mostly 15 year old and younger kids) into the volkstrum for some suicidal mission to hold the town, so the Heer officer took the SS officer around the back of a building to talk and shot him and threw his ass in a ditch?

The only real religious groups that draw attention to themselves as religious groups are Jews and Muslims, more so Jews. At my University there are many Jewish groups that jew about and do Jewish things. There's like a building where Muslims chill out and grill.

In America it;'s usually a race or nationality thing. Irish, German, English, Scots, French, etc. and the religious institutions of those countries are what reflects what people assume is their religion. Jews and Muslims are the exception, They identify as their religion first and their nationality second. Again less so with Muslims, as i've asked a few Muslims where their from and say shit like Jordan or Oman or Qatar. I asked a guy who was from Indiana where he was from, and he said he was Jewish. It is very confusing when someone responds like that.

That's still correct as far as the SS is concerned, in reality the Wehrmacht was evil too though.

The End: Hitler's Germany 1944–45 gives a good overview over the attitude of Germans during the last stages of WW II. It doesn't deal with battles specifically, but focuses on the social space.

>The Führer expects that the Gauleiter will implement the task placed before them with the necessary severity and consistency and ruthlessly suppress every sign of disintegration, cowardice and defeatism with the death sentences of the summary courts martial. Anyone not prepared to fight for his people but who stabs it in the back in its gravest hour does not deserve to live and must fall to the executioner.

Also interesting:
>For a variety of perceived serious offences, a total of 150 German soldiers had been sentenced to death in the First World War, 48 of whom were actually executed. German military courts passed, in all, some 30,000 death sentences against German soldiers during the Second World War, with 20,000 carried out. During the Second World War the British executed 40, the French 103, the Americans 146.

not any more or less 'evil' than other armies at the time

The Japanese were worse, the Soviets were better, all the Western armies were in a completely different league, and looked like Sunday church students compared to any of these three.

I'm not saying Wehrmacht soldiers were inherently more evil, but if the leadership legalized rape, mandates looting and uses the mass execution of civilians as a SOP in case of insurgent attacks, that will have an effect on the conduct of soldiers. You could also volunteer for the mass execution of civilians in ethnic cleansing operations, if you were a Wehrmacht soldier, and Wehrmacht officers could and did request the cleansing of areas under their control.

yeah but it was the first hollywood movie to actually show how brutal ww2 was with the D-Day scene at the beginning

is that a guy or a girl

You will never know.

>the Soviets were better
lel, they were animals destroying and raping everything they touched. The only 'positive' thing you could say is that they weren't autistic about race but killed everyone equally

>all the Western armies were in a completely different league, and looked like Sunday church students compared to any of these three.
On the Western front, sure, but the same can then be said about the Wehrmacht. US soldiers didn't even consider Japs to be human and mutilating their corpses was a regular thing

>mass executions of civilians
True, the Western allies didn't do that. They used firebombs and nukes instead

WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME user

>can't tell whether this is a 12 year old boy or a 15 year old girl
so this is the power of xenoestrogens

>can't tell whether this is a 12 year old boy or a 15 year old girl
doesn't really matter now does it?
