What would classical philosophers think of western society today?

What would classical philosophers think of western society today?

plato would kys himself

>kys himself
>kill yourself himself
fucking rip in piece your retarded post

They'd piss themselves laughing at the idea that "representative government" is called democracy, rather than a moderate form of oligarchy. They'd also roll their eyes pretty hard at the various Abrahamic religions.

"Holy shit, airplanes!"

They would turn 360 degrees and walk away

This
"Holy fucking shit, they went to the moon?"

they would be horrified that the age of consent is 16

*you're

>be fucking bamboozeled at our scientific advancements
>become scientific positivists in a heartbeat and discard all philosophy
>fap to tranny porn

Now I'm picturing Plato moonwalking.

Science is part of philosophy for them, brainlet.

The Greeks rejected empiricism you fucktarded subnigger.

That's literally nor true or even relevant your gigantic faggot.

yes, but what we today understand as the scientific method is so far removed/refined from what they would call "science" that they would most likely see it as something completely new and removed from philosophy

>what is democritus

So they would be amazed by the technology at first, but what would they say about the state of society? Would they think it has become uncontrollable and advocate to a return of city states or would they see the positive side?

"THE SOFTNESS OF WOMAN BUT WITH THE HARDNESS OF MAN, AMAZING!"

>all these STEM whores
there is nothing impressive about post-modern technology. They're just machines, or forms of entertainment. In the latter, their entertainment was better as seen by plays, aesthetics, architecture etc.

>&humanities cuck still butthurt over his useless degree

>there is nothing impressive about post-modern technology.
??????
I hope you aren't serious right now.

they had computer too user. And an empire is a form of technology, which this world lacks.

...

Nah, he’s right. I mean half the shit machines do today you would have servants do back then.

They would probably be more disgusted about our morals than impressed about our technological development.

They wouldn't like how we consider pleasure to be everything, how men define themselves by how they can please women and how some consider that men are manlier if they sleep with more women. They would probably use words like degenerate for the Hugh Heffner culture of ours.

And the state of morals, where most people believe that people should do "whatever they feel will be good to them, as long as it doesn't harm others".

He's right you know.

I argue this with normies every day and they never learn.

Have to write a 10 page paper about this before Monday, not sure how to begin with it.

Doesn't take being a philosopher to see that technology is outpacing our ability to adapt to it, and we're degenerating as a consequence.

true to caesar

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS MAGICAL PALM SIZED RECTANGLE OF WITCHCRAFT THAT GIVES ME NEAR INSTANTANEOUS ACCESS TO THE VIRTUAL COLLECTIVE INTELLIGENCE OF THE HUMAN RACE!?!
...AND TITTIES!

Socrates hated pencil and paper so it follows hed hate this hand-holding iphones too

>Implying Socrates wouldn't be the greatest social media troll and shitposter in history

"what's a sandwich?"

This. They would probably laugh harder (or cry miserably) when we say we adopted our '"free" democracy from them

he'd just get branded a Nazi everywhere and browse chanboards

They'd commit sudoku lmao

>this thread had a lot of potential
>it instantly degenerated into shitposts

why do you guys do this?

Technology outpaced /his level of adapting to it (and overall intelligence) once again

they would see that we wear pants and lament at the barbarian takeover of the world

>what is efficiency
>what are fucking aircrafts and spacecrafts
It’s official. Veeky Forums is retarded.

Which one of them would like anime?

>fucking rip in piece you are retarded post

no mate. it's your.

those machines aren't impressive. Birds can fly too.

>those machines aren't impressive.

What would Greek philosophers think about brainletposting?

That's the joke you dick fondler

The AoC isn't universally 16

Socrates would be disappointed knowing nothing has changed

They would view it as insulting. Read a fucking book before you post about something you aren't remotely familiar with

What do you mean?

nice bait

shitposting is the highest level of dialogue ya simp frogposter

Plato would have been one of the original /pol/ shitposters and would be fine with Trump

Atoms are real?!

*its

Shitposting is the most virtuous activity on an imageboard. You could say shitposting anons help Veeky Forums achieve eudemonia.

probably massively impressed

like diogenes, where i go, i must also shitpost

Posting this on a device that allows you to send this message to anyone, anywhere in the world, at the speed of light, and in less than a second, could do the same with every written work in their ancient world, while simultaneously simulating a virtual world with both art and physics more true to life than they ever could have conceived of, in a game designed for children.

>Be classical era philosopher
>Get introduced to anime and hentai
>Begin to fapping especially to futa and traps
>They are now both Philosophers and Weeaboos

This is the most realistic answer

what do you mean you SPLIT the atom?!?!

Technology is impressive. That said, while we did advance in this area, we did regress in the area of knowledge they considered the most important which would be Ethics.

One thing they would probably say is that while we have this amazing technology, people don't use it very well.

People have the knowledge of the world in their hands. But ignore it and spend their time on things such as "Kylie Jenner's makeup".

He'd think it was shitty but not that different from Athens. Our society is basically identical to how he describes "democratic" societies in the Republic. Also he would not in any way be fine with Trump, it would be hard to imagine someone who's less of a philosopher.

>That said, while we did advance in this area, we did regress in the area of knowledge they considered the most important which would be Ethics.

You will probably laugh at this statement, but in no time in history has there been a system as fair and humane as our current law/Judiciary.
The ethics those people would represent and figth for would be barbaric from todays standpoint.

>a system as fair and humane as our current law/Judiciary.
Have you ever notice how lawyers use latin terms? The legal system of most countries is based on Roman law...
If you are an American, the Classical philosophers had an enormous influence on your Founding Fathers. Cicero, in special is hugely influential.

>The ethics those people would represent and figth for would be barbaric from todays standpoint.
They wouldn't. Some of their texts are still around.

And Ethics is not only about how you treat other people or laws. It involves much more than that. It involves how you treat others, but also how you live, how you think, what you value. In those terms, we have regressed tremendously compared to the Ancient philosophers.

Lmao I'm laughing pretty hard, don't worry.

The Twin Philosophers, Plato and Aristotle, still represent an absolute high point in metaphysics, morality, and ethics.

Your modern system has no intellectual foundation that can compare to their works. The people who carry out that system are similarly flawed. Moderns have totally lost their foundational understanding, apart from a sprinkling of hebrew mythology and badly mauled Hellenic teachings.
