Can somebody explain to me why starting strength is a meme? Should I drop it?

When Mike Patton and Rippletits invented SS it was to try and bring people to their level (or should I say, at least to the achievable level of Rippletits), however, no one uses it correctly.

/thread

Because plebs recommend it to people who just want to gain muscle.

How do you use it correctly? I hear it makes you fat.

are you a beginner?
Do you want strength?
Its for you if these two things are true.

It's a safe, easy to follow program that gives a solid foundation. It is an easy, accurate default to a "herp derp I'm a beginner how do I elite"

it only makes you fat if you're an animal that cant control your diet. otherwise you're fucking solid. Eat in a small surplus and make all the pressing 5*5 instead of 3*5

I've been at this for about a year now tho and I think I have all the basic lifts down. Should I just make up my own routine?

Not doing the program.

>doing SS for a year
Fucking lol what are you numbers at

So when I dead I usually do 3x5, but you're saying switch it to 5x5 now?

theres a book called "Practical programming for strength" by the same author.

it talks about how to make routines/provides example routines and generally does a great job explaining programming, try and torrent it.

first of all Starting strength deadlifts are meant to be 1x5, secondly changing it to 5x5 would mean you were no longer following the program.

He said pressing. Deadlift is a pulling movement

yeah you technically won't be following the program, but when I was doing it it helped that I made them 5*5. Only the Press and the Bench Press. Leave everything else the same

Just try to find one of Patton's leaked workout sheets, hard to find but as valuable as diamonds when found.

Is it safe to do deadlifting on my chest day/shoulder days?

full body 3xs a week is GOAT, you should be doing that no matter what our goals are

Thanks, user.

let's get a few things straight

1. 3x5, 5x5, 3x10, etc will yield THE SAME muscle growth, there are no documented differences in these rep ranges, therefore you WILL build muscles on SS

2. 3-5 reps are the most efficient when it comes to maximum strength training, i.e. training your CNS. you WILL grow strong on SS

3. fullbody 3 times per week is the most efficient way to train, because you recover after 48 hours.

SS is a great program, but it's not the only routine in town
do curls if you want at the end
don't do power clean if you're scared
do cardio if you want

stop being a bitch, and start lifting

Don't forget cardio fatass seriously you'll even up regretting it.

>you WILL grow strong
Yeah but you wont grow BIG

>don't do power clean if you're scared

>Mike Patton
aka The King of Fit

My legs feel much more pumped after 3x10 squats than 3x5 tho

Pepe the frog is a meme. Starting Strength may or may not be the best program for you, but it's not a meme.

The name of the program literally tells you what it's for: Starting. Strength. Rippetoe even tells you that you shouldn't stay on it indefinitely. I think people who think it's a "meme" forget that he also helped develop Texas Method.

m8, if you're a noob, lifting compound movements 3x a week will get you as big as you possibly could get, nothing can change that.

yeah no shit, more lactic acid.

Strength training=/= chasing a pump.

the reason you grow big is from food, not rep ranges

>hypertrophy rep ranges give me more of a pump than strength training rep ranges
>I think this is worthy of mentioning

how's your first year lifting?

>strengththeory

post lifts newfriend

>asking someone on an anonymous cartoon porn imageboard to post their lifts
>expecting them to tell the truth in order for you to make a comparison
>calls someone a newfriend in Summer
>being this new

Third year
Hyertrophy and strength train differently at different rep ranges

How about you get off the internet for a while

...

So mixing in deadlifts with my bench, DB press, squats and other shit is ok?

>that image
>not reddit

god damn

Did he strike a nerve there newbitch?

>samefagging this hard

Wuts ur lifts, bruv

Post lifts newdyel. You do lift don't you?

WHAT ARE YOUR LIFTS, MY MAN

pretty simple user. Retards on the internet are literal retards who can't follow a simple set of rules. So they "try" starting strength without actually understanding or following the program, and then shit on it. All it takes is a few people to shit on it for it to become a meme.

That being said, SS is fucking great for beginners, it's simple as fuck, and doesn't really do anything different that any other proven beginner program does. If you're doing SS to getting a ripped body, you're fucked up

>2 new posts

>samefagging like it's 2005

Those aren't your lifts. And I can assure you, I'm not that guy.

Post your lifts. We won't laugh.

>keeps changing subject
>won't post lifts
dyel open and shut case.

Yup. Kind of embarrassing.

Sure is.

Because beginners needs tons of bodyweight exercises, single leg squats, rack pulls instead of deadlifts and 2-3 sets of 10-15 reps for strength endurance. It will give you good base in long term.
Also this 5x5 programs usually inspired by Bill Starr's programs for off season athletes to peek their strength, not for usual beginners.

ss doesn't make you fat.

too many calories makes you fat.

don't eat too many calories.

i did SS on a caloric deficit. lost all the weight, gained all the strength.

permacut mode i got these lifts
ohp -140x3
bench - 200x5
hip thrust - 300x5
chin up - lmao1pl8 x 3
don't really train squat or dead 'cause i am a tremendous faggot.

all of these gains were made while losing weight.

anyone who says you can't make strength or size gains on a deficit is a tard (IF helps, as if you eat 800kcal right before and after lifting, you are in a surplus, even though over the course of the day you are still in caloric deficit)

youtube.com/watch?v=MFo_wQq8M3Q

if your lifts are novice, you are a novice lifter.
you need to follow a novice program.

you are not unique enough to need a unique program.

any novice program will work wonders for you.
ss or gslp are my preference.

try actually reading ss

>all those studies are wrong, since they all got linked on the same site.

are you from /pol/?

you can't just disregard actual scientific literature, just cause some faggy site happens to post it.

pumps are a meme, you shouldn't pumpchase as a natty.

Didn't mean to trigger you newfriend.

You sound dyel af no offense.

What are your stats plz

>don't really train squat or dead 'cause i am a tremendous faggot
kys

>Eric Cressey thinks so
>Mythical Strength thinks so
>Lot of good coaches think so
>THEY ARE DYELS!!!!! TRUST ME, I'M SUPERMEGAATHLET FROM Veeky Forums!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is to this fix

i would, its just i have SBTY syndrome

yeah why would it not be okay?

the only thing would be to give yourself more recovery time

>I did SS
>Don't really train squats or deads
pick one

>noone gets the subtle b8.
i'm sorry for you user

There there dyel. It's gonna be okay.

...

SS made me t-rex mode.. it might work if you have good bone structure like german or viking genes. i have chit tier mudslime genes, so i was already twig arms and pear shaped body... now that i'm only doing upper body hypertrophy work and cardio im looking way better than SS ever got me

What's your program?

good on everything except no squats and deads. fucking do them

>chit
BACK TO BB.COM

Do SS and add in a few other things at the end. I do curls and lying tri extensions as well as weighted planks. Nearly finished with the program I think and I look much better for it.

I did SS and it fucked my shit up.

I was half skeleton going in bit had a little leg and back strength from previous activities. By the end of it I could squat a good amount, and deadlift well too, and had a very good row for low reps.

However my pull ups were pathetic, my bench laughable, everything else upper body was shit with some laughably small arms compared to my legs, and my abs so weak compared to my lower back I began to develop back pain and posture issues leading to the appearance of a belly.

I had to buy new pants several times but never buy new t shirts.

I switched to a more balanced PPL routine, and still enjoy squatting, deadlifting and everything else, but I'm finally looking and performing more balanced.

SS is a fucking meme, and it's been known to be a meme for years until that cross dressing newfag showed up and started shilling it constantly.

Outdated information. Not a terrible starting routine though.
