Is race a social construction?

Is race a social construction?

No. Are our definitions of race social constructions? Probably

I support beaver immigration into our cities, (((we))) need more beaver diversity.

As a concept, it makes sense. In practice, we're all too mixed to matter unless we group up so high it means nothing anymore.
Also, the most used groupings (black/white) are 100% political.

Imagine bring this retarded

There's clearly some genetic variation in different parts of the globe, yet the way people use "race" is as a social categorization rather than a biological one. See how everyone in Africa is labeled as part of a single "black race" when populations within Africa often differ more genetically than a typical European does from an East Asian; or arbitrary shit like the "one drop rule."

Usually the "social construct" part centres around how a culture views things like race, gender, sexuality, etc. Those things are pretty hard coded, and tangible, to our biology. But how a population interprets it doesn't always reflect that.

Yes, but ethnicity is not.

The Irish were always considered white under the law in America. Stop posting Marxist trash.

This isn't necessarily true. The Naturalization Act of 1790 didn't actually define what white was, and considering the Irish presence in the U.S. was pretty small at the time it wouldn't be surprising if a hypothetical influx of Irish immigrants at the time would have been ineligible for naturalization. Basically legal whiteness was organic over time.

no. They're all objectively defined.

>Is race a social construction?
You're so boring.

>A was called B
>then A was called C
>therefore B is C

Is society a Racial construct ion

Slightly incorrect. There is no such thing as race and therefore it is a "social construct" because there are no natural groupings. Every sort of grouping (race) is a man-made social construct. A kraut is closer to a frog than he is to a nigger, but they're all different. Even brother and sister have different genetics

>a bird isn't real if humans can't call it a bird
Fuck off homo

I'm not going to reply to /pol/. You are completely right and you win the argument

Not true, they have done studies where they map a group of people's genomes and cluster them and those clusters match up >99% of the time with self-described racial identity

Prove it

the concept of race is extremely simple.
there's a phenotype check, and then there's a social check.
if yes to both then you belong to that particular race.
so its partially socially constructed.

I've long been under the impression that people mostly base race concepts on looks; reoccurring phenotypes typical within certain population groups, and how certain ethnicities could be related to some kinds more than others, forming groups, such as Slavic, Germanic, Han Chinese, Jewish, etcetera. Genetics may or may not be so different, but it is looks that people are largely fixated upon. Many people obsess with preserving or diminishing certain physical features/phenotypes.

...

yes very much so our perception of race litterly goes skin deep to the point of where barrack Obama a man born from a white mother and a black father is considered our first "black" president.

Why are Americans so obsessed with race? Get over it guys.

ya buddy the irish were totally treated the same as anglos and germans after all they were "white" and thats all that matters

It doesn't matter how much you whine. You are going to get replaced anyway. Time to get extinct'd, subhuman.

yes

>we're all too mixed to matter
speak for yourself you fucking mongrel
