Hi fit im about to go on a shipping cruise for 6 months...

Hi fit im about to go on a shipping cruise for 6 months. Does anyone here work as seafarers or have acquaitances in this domain ? Im afraid ill lose all my gains there..

U tryna escape China or something

The container has enough room for maybe a squat rack and a cable machine or dumbbell set, as long as there arent too many others with you

learn to do calisthenics

Im from romania and the wages in our contry are shit , i try to build my way up to captain status to earn something like 10-11k euros/month.

Where are you going from romania

Can i get the exact dimensions of the container?

If you're planning on actually making it your job then you should definetly make plans for some sort of homegym on your vessel. Or stop lifting.

I wont go from romania ill change 3 planes and start my voyage from another country. Why are you asking ?

You would think that, being on sea for any period of time, they would already have some sort of dedicated exercise room.

Yeah they do but the the diet im afraid of most like not getting enough protein and shit.

Whats it like

Generally they don't want the crew facilities taking up any more space or weight than necessary. That all cuts into the potential profit.

Then buy a variety of nuts in bulk aswell as protein powder ofcourse. You should be able to get a piece of meat a day though i hope. If you can't then you got bigger priorities than trying to become 'fit'.

You think is there a way to carry gear through airports ?

Bring suppliments, protein powder and daily vitamins are a must if you want to stay big at sea.
Lifting can be dangerous at sea in bad conditions, be prepared to skip or go lighter with your lifts.
You'll probably spend a lot of time sitting around on watch so don't skip cardio. Ships have a lot of steep stairs and long ladders that can help, treadmills are iffy I always set the incline high because if I rock forward while on them I don't like running downhill.
I was US Navy so I don't really know what to expect with shipping vessels

>At sea
>Doesnt fish for gains

nigga nuke a whale while you're out there for max GAINS

>cruise
>6 months

what the actual fuck

Airport limit of luggage is 20 kg cant carry protein for 6 months with me

You can make plenty of gains with push ups and pull ups. No worries there.

What you need to worry about is tanking your sex life. That's six months without getting laid, dawg. Is your dick even gonna still work after all that?

Pick it up where you meet your ship

Im a Kv anyway no difference for me

Unless you're working for a third world company or a ship from the 90s then you'll at least have dumbbells, benches and a smith machine. You get more than enough food for a working man and there is often meat.

If you do happen to work for bullshit company then you'll probably still come around 25-30L chemical containers, metal bars and other things you can improvise with, so the food you get is the only concern really.

>6 months
>long time

you must be 18 years old to post on Veeky Forums

Apprentice Deckie/Engineer spotted.

Survive your 12 months as an apprentice and enjoy the 5 weeks on/5 weeks off rota in drilling my friend, it's where the money is at.

Pic related, the shitty Russian weather a couple of months ago.

This. Catch some fucking DORADO

Oh yeah, and buy a TRX kit, it saved my life on board.

Clearly you have never been on a ship, it's not a submarine they have plenty of room in the superstructure to fit a gym. I was on a 250foot supply vessel and we still had a gym.

At the very least you should have some sort of cable machines.

Bring your own proteins.
There's a gym equipment fitted on all international vessels, as required by the Maritime Labor Convention of 2006.

Have fun in there, cadet.

Also, if that's your ship then the gym equipment is located at the upper deck, near the engine room entrance.

What is the tall structure in front of you? Doesn't resemble any drill tower nor wheelhouse I have seen on subsea vessels

It's a crane you mong. The picture is taken from the bridge, looking aft. I regularly switch contracts because I work as a DPO for an agency, this was a contract onboard of a HLV.

Where you sailing at? You ain't got no business photographing cheesy sunsets after your first year mate. Pic related, the standard pic for every third officer who thinks he's the shite

What were the meals on board ? Im working for Maersk and i heard they serve decent food on board.

Ah, never seen those huge ass cranes in person and never from that angle.

Been working on supply vessels in the north sea the past two years as an OS. Going to school this autumn to become a cadet.

How si the food on board ? is the fish unlimited ?

They do.
In danish flagged vessels they have salad bars. Though it still depends on the chief cook and the mix of the crew on how the food will be (Like if you're in sin and HK flag most probably you'll have noodles every once in a while, or curry)

I've only worked in the offshore industry, and the food there is really good. Merchant navy will depend on which company you work for. I've done a short stint as a mate on an AHTS from Maersk, food was okay but you were limited in what you could choose. Offshore vessels often have four or five different dishes you can choose from, ranging from Asian to European/American.

Being a cadet sucks, prepare to get chewed out for literally everything. I spent some time with Russian mates, and they made my life a living hell.

Imagine being a swole cadet who takes orders from skinny manlets

I've been there, and got a lot of shit for choosing to spend my time in the gym after the 12 hour shifts instead of smoking (nr. 1 pastime on a vessel) and playing pingpong. Having a good fitness helped with the work on deck such as tending the mooring lines, doing all the inspections and shit.

But with regards to fitness and diet - it's all up to you. I always bring my TRX-kit so I can train no matter what, weather depending of course. Breakfast consists of whichever vegetables they have cooked with the least amount of oil and Malay style eggs (which suck, but are the best option). Lunch is your main meal, since it's halfway during your shift so I would try to eat as paleo as possible with large amounts of meat and vegetables. After my shift I would eat some fruit if we had that onboard (only the first two weeks after being in port) or a large amount of boiled eggs if they were available.

I've spent quite some time near the equator, and it's impossible to gain weight when you're there. The constant heat has you sweating all day long, so it's a good time to start your cut if you want. Be careful with a lack of food, I've had more heat strokes than were good for me. I've spent some time in Russia near the polar circle, and it was awesome to train outside on the helideck in sub-zero temperatures after sitting inside all day.

That kit seems lame to me , all i want is a bench , a barbell and some plates to atleast maintain my strengh in benching , rowing and ohp..If not i think ill stick to pullups and pushups. Im not doing this for vanity i do it because i get massively depressed if i stop lifting.

The problem is freeweights are a big no no on smaller vessels, and you often get stuck with a shitty cable machine that has been raped on the regular by inexperienced guys with a midlife crisis. The majority of the exercises you list are difficult to perform on a rolling and pitching vessel, especially during transit.

I up the amount of cardio in order to prevent depression, which seems to work. Also, no matter how many porn you bring, you'll get bored of that shit within 2 weeks. Make sure you download all kinds of stuff.

Yeah im aware of this my dream is to go on a vessel like maribo maersk or emma wich is pretty huge desu. Is it really that bad to perform exercies on a ship that big ? i though the rolling and pitching were close to unoticeable on a big ship.
My bigest fear to be honest is the depression of staying away from my family for half a year and moving on from my comfy lifestyle. I hope ill become a better man from the experience though.

Maama in sfarsit dau si eu de cineva din domeniu, e visul meu sa vad lumea si sa si fac bani din asta

Care-s conditiile ca sa lucrezi in marina comerciala?

It's always the same with these Eastern European cunts, they start yapping away in their own moonspeak as soon as they sit together. Shit tier mariners desu, flooding the market with their bought licences.

Rolling and pitching won't be that bad, especially if you end up on the E-class. It all depends what country you're from, because Maersk USA has their own independent fleet for example.

You will get depressed, and you will have some regrets about your career choice, but in the end you get to do some pretty cool stuff on a young age. Be prepared to kiss your comfy lifestyle goodbye, and say hello to a lack of privacy, high workload and irregular working hours when you're in port. Port calls are non stop chaos with a pack of retards invading your vessel and breaking everything they come into contact with. During transit you try to rest for the next port call, whilst still doing your daily shifts.

la ce serie?

NORMIES REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I find it odd how many merchant marines browse /fit. Am I wrong here?

I browsed Veeky Forums before becoming a merchant mariner, but it was one the things I missed whilst being onboard. I also think the culture onboard is sometimes similar to the one found on this board.

Why do you wanna be a merchant mariner user? What is your motivation?

>What you need to worry about is tanking your sex life. That's six months without getting laid, dawg.
>six months without getting laid,
>getting laid

you must be new here

you forgot to say no homo

I'm going on a 1 month voyage with a container ship and i'm thinking of bringing a trx kit and a jump rope for cardio. It's not running and swimming but what can you do. The good thing about merchant ships is that there is literally unlimited places to do pullups from, just watch out for those bossuns!

If you know what you are doing and are part of the 1% of less autistic Veeky Forumsizens you'll still be confident enough to intimidate them and trade banter

Aici ne oprim cu divulgatul de informatii personale :P
Cumva esti si tu tot la etti?

>no homo

bosun will rape you, especially the Malay ones

Not during the first 3 months where you basically have to prove yourself. They make it very clear that the cadet is not part of regular crew just yet, so trading banter is something that has to be earned.

am fost anul asta :))

It's not a very populated profession, but sailors flock to ships like moths to a flame it seems

Its not unusual to wake up to "N-no homo" on vessels with /pol/ disapproved crew.
Filipinos are so extreme that if you are a western woman their girls and family will stalk you on Facebook and send you hate mail.

Of course, if you think you know shit when you get on board for the first time as a cadet then your career at sea will probably end quickly.

How are filipinos as people ? bro tier or back stabbing bastards?

How do I find work on a ship and become a seafarer? I'm debating running off in to the navy, but I'd like to see my other options.

Have barely had any first hand experience with them, but generally they stick together and regard the oldest person as the boss.

You're all on the same boat and backstabbing won't get you a higher position or anything, so you can't really tell the true colours of anyone when you're at sea.

The country itself is one of the most corrupt in the world so you'll definitely find some who stabs you in the back without a second thought.

Do you guys get internet on the boats? I know they have satellite internet but I imagine it's not very bandwidth intensive.

Yeah mate nah you can make a satellite call and that's it.

The internet even on the newest and most technologically advanced ships is usually absolute shit.
Mail, news and Facebook is pretty much all you'll be able to use it for.

whelp that's one career I'm not going into then, not like boats need IT anyways

Communication is very important for ships these days so IT is actually necessary, but unless there is new hardware/software to be installed you'll mostly be a consultant on a phone if a ship's electrician can't figure out an issue.

How did you get into seamanship? Is there a lot of jobs out there?
