Seems like fitness industry is chock full of memes, myths and outright shitty and harmful advice, so let's list them all ITT. Here are some of the common memes the nubs fall for
>doing deadlifts for back development
>behind the back ohp/chin-ups
>seated leg extensions
>locking out your elbows on bench press
>doing concentration curls for bi volume
>cutting out salt completely
>cutting out fat completely
And these are memes I remember off the top of my head... I mean there's a fuckload more refined stuff like shithead """"trainers""""" not knowing how to target each of the bi or tri heads on curls/pulldowns/presses, but that's another story.

there aren't memes:

>doing deadlifts for back development
>seated leg extensions
>locking out your elbows on bench press

Deadlifts for back isn't a meme

The majority of your back is lats. How the fuck are you morons working your lats with deadlifts?

You don't you fucking retard

>how do you work your biceps with legpress?

Obviously people aren't talking about last when they talk about deadlift strengthening back. Mostly lower back.

what will keep your back straight?

I personally let the bar sway about wildly when I deadlift it's more fun that way

>doing deadlifts for back development
Yeah it totally doesn't hit your traps and spinal erectors

>cleansing your body
>spot reduction

>doing deadlifts for back development is a meme

stopped reading there.
ofcourse you shouldn't ONLY do deads for back but they sure as fuck help.
OP confirmed for dyel, retarded or both.

Checkekd ^

>my trainer told me not to drink protein shakes while I'm training because it burns muscle

Deadlifts develop traps and lower back like nothing else.
Op is faggot.

The majority of stress is going to be in your hamstrings if you're doing it right (ie: straight legs+straight back) as opposed to retard MAX WEIGHT compound way that doesn't train anything in particular.

Omg I'd like to see your faggot skinnyfat traps.
t. 550 lb shrugs

>the majority of stress from a deadlift is on your hamstrings

lol, yea they are used heavily but there is certainly a lot of strain on your lower back and traps when you lock out. both get developed.

What do you pull to be making such stupid claims?

>locking out your elbows on bench press
Yeah bro, unrack and rack without locking out. Don't forget that thumbs are a meme too, suicide that shit dawg.

for you faggots

Post them pics cool guy.

I've done max ~400 the retard way back when I wasn't aware of fitness memes. Now my form is radically improved and I superset deadlifts with squats. Straight back+straight legs I've done 235 so far.

>my trainer

lel

BCAA's

Pretty fat but not skinnyfat.
You do realize the trap is a much larger muscle than the bit by your neck right?

First exercise I do on back days is chin ups and that's a far more stressful workout for your lats than what this kek does :^)

lol you haven't even pulled over 4pl8 and your dissing them as a meme for back development
shut up you weak little bitch

answer this retarded OP.

If you understood the bare minimum about biomechanics you'd know how deadlifts affect the back.

This is completely false. You shouldn't be using your traps at all when deadlifting.

Of course it does you fucking moron, that's the primary muscle used. Are you somehow amazed that bicep curls hit the bicep more than a bent over row?

As a trainer this thread is pretty cringe all these guys trying to talk about deadlifts but they probably couldn't even name the joint movements without resorting to google.

what muscle stabilizes the scapula, Einstein?

>I diddly with my back curled like a scared cat
Because that's what happens if you don't maintain upper back tension

~400 lbs is 4 plates, homo :^)
Yea yea, I'm sure all the bitches at your gym are impressed by your weight on the bar and 40% bf. Deadliftfags are literally the bane of fitness community
>HURRRR LOOK HOW MUCK WEIF I WIFT DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Literal fucking retards.
top laf

So are you a follower of the "train your lats and traps with deadlifts" school of though?

>stabilizes the scapula
Serratus Anterior
Your erector spinae work the most out of the back during a dl

No you retard. The main movers are the hamstrings and glutes. It's retarded to talk about deadlifts as a "back exercise" when the work done by the back is mostly isotonic.

No. I think you should do them but if someone wanted to get primarily hypertrophy in the lats and traps I wouldn't just rely on deadlifts.

>No you retard. The main movers are the hamstrings and glutes.
You fucking moron, nobody said they aren't. How do you think you maintain your upper back on a deadlift?

If you aren't feeling it in your traps and erectors you're not lifting enough weight.

The point is when people talk about doing deadlifts on "back day" it's retarded.

You don't actually lift. Go shit post somewhere else.

I never commented on any of that. Do you lift as shitty as you follow a thread?

If you need heavy weight to "feel it" you have shitty mind-muscle connection and aren't flexing when your muscles are contracting.

>this is what Veeky Forums actually believes

I think I've seen like 2 people in my life do a proper deadlift at the gym because shit advice like this gets constantly given out.

lmao look at the sub 3pl8 deadlifter everyone.

seated leg extensions are. it causes a lot of shear on the knees. front squats are better for quad development.

I'm referring to the fitness industry meme that deadlifts are a back exercise which you retards keep defending over and over

Not an argument

You're also using your abs to maintain your upper back. What's your point, lankmaster? Deadlift as performed by /fit is a useless exercise that doesn't train anything in particular.

>I'm referring to the fitness industry meme that deadlifts are a back exercise which you retards keep defending over and over

[shitposting intensifies]

Do you know anything about human anatomy? The traps are a huge muscle and very much used in deadlifting..
goddamn this is some dumb shit.

>hahahaha if I keep saying he's shitposting I don't have to acknowledge how little I know about lifting.

When people say "traps" they usually mean the upper traps. They're used to stabilize the back, but at no point should you be elevating your scapula in the movement.

How are they used in deadlifting? Do you flex your traps when doing deadlifts? If you're not flexing-stretching your muscle it's not "used" in an exercise.

It's 405 actually, you're just shy dumbfuck.
I'm not fat at all lol and if you're at 235 "proper form" you're weak as fuck and have no right to be saying shit

>fit retards try to tell us how we're retarded
>don't know the difference between isometric vs isotonic or concentric vs eccentric, and how this correlate to what qualifies a muscle being "used" in a lift beyond stabilization.

>this kek
>not mad
pick one

ITT: Dyels try to argue that deadlifts don't make use of the back and aren't a great mass builder.
I'm not even going to bother with the countless citations of lifters proving otherwise.
Stay weak and small, who gives a fuck

I'm willing to bet your form is atrocious. Post a video or I don't care about how much weight you can pick up off the ground.

Dude you don't lift shit and are acting like you speak from any experience.
>hurr durr I once pulled 400 catback
>here is why deads for back are a meme
likely look like crap. Please post a current so we can all have a chuckle

Aren't deadlifts just a great compound exercise because they
>work a lot of different muscle groups
>strain the nervous system

my form is pretty damn good m8.
sorry no vids. friend who pulls 5.5pl8 watches mine and says it aight.
i'd bet I look better than you too, kek

>tfw
>ay yo bro so u wanna build sik bak yo
>shit u gotta do deadlifts bro
>also don't forget to check out my clothing line bro #SIKALFACUNTBRO
>t-shirts are only $49.95 bro

>i'd bet I look better than you too, kek
Proudly wearing that 40% bf eh?

Yeah but the idea that they're primarily a back exercise is a meme, and that's why most people's form is terrible. They lift with their back and extend with the spine. It's true back is "used" but that meme affects many negatively.

How much you stretching those hamstrings m8

But washing might actually reduces spots?

Isn't your spine supposed to be straight and you kind of use it as a vehicle to lift the weight with your legs and lower back? Why would people wanna work their Lats with deadlifting. Why not just do pull-ups

yea pretty close to 40% bf
>everyone who disagrees or lifts more than me is fat XDD
Eat shit faggot

the fuck is wrong with your chest lel. Also mirin noodle arms.

You guys suck. Deadlifts require considerable contribution from most of your muscle groups, most obviously legs and back. Individual lifters proportions and technique (or lack of) may cause them to be dominant in one muscle group or another, but if you thinks it's possible to lock out a heavy ass ĎL without significant stress on your entire body, you are the meme.

>calling others fat
>is proven wrong
>noodle arms
just stop

at least no objections on the small chest...

Take the L bro

won't defend it, idk man I bpress 2.5pl8
whatever helps you sleep at night
Keep calling people you argue with fat, it's worked out so far

>he doesnt flex his lats while deadlifting

>it's possible

QUINTS HAVE SPOKEN

Stay away from colored people in the gym. Not a meme they are fucking awful
