Lubomirski wanted to be elected king and he pretty much treated his rebellion as an extended electoral campaign. Slaughtering royal forces en masse didn't really fit in too well with that. He felt he did enough and could leave in exile only to return and win the election a few years later.

He died of a sudden illness right after he left in exile (it's very likely he was poisoned), but his campaign momentum for a Polish-born monarch carried the next two elections, pretty much getting both Michael I and Jan Sobieski elected (well, with the latter there were several other factors as well).

Also the reason they got beat so badly as Matwy was because it wasn't really a 'proper' battle. There were some minor clashes over a river crossing which ended in a temporary truce. The king feigned a willingness to negotiate while in secret he split his army and sent a large force under Sobieski to cross the river downstream and catch the rebels from behind.

Only the rebels managed to sniff out the forces trying to crossed the river and intercepted them before they could regroup and pretty much slaughtered them as they attempted to retreat or regroup. The rebels were furious at the king breaking the truce and trying to stab them in the back so they were brutal and took no prisoners. Sobieski barely escaped with his life. And that was the end of the 'battle'.

After that the proposed negotiations that started out as a deception really did end up happening.
