Are any Veeky Forumsizens in the military? Is it a fit job? What do you do?

I just graduated college and think it might be an career option but I have no idea where to start.

military is for manchildren who want others to dictate their lives

Officer. No. I sit around for 16+ hours a day doing paperwork for shit money.

if you graduated take the high route and go officer. especially a naval officer you will be treated like royalty. those under your command will kill their own grandmothers just to satisfy your needs.

Sounds perfect for the kind of autist who browses Veeky Forums :^)

M8 just admit you're a pussy, it's ok.

Them benefits doe

Like getting shot at? Or dealing with the VA? Can't wait until I'm done with this shit.

I was pretty fit.
Most mornings were ruck/runs
Majority of my job when not actively working was moving equipment for inventories, which equated to pretty much none stop deadlifting 200+ lbs every day. We had a pull up bar in a cage in the back and some weights. If we finished our work early they would let us go to the gym as a group, check in when we were done, if they had nothing else we were let off for the day.
Lowest body fat of my life at around 9%, would bulk up pretty well on deployments, since there was nothing else to do for the 5-6 hours you had off except take a bunch of scoops and try to find a workout you could do better than anyone else.
Military lifestyle is pretty alpha as fuck also, all you do is drink and go to strip clubs during your free time as a junior soldier, than go back home and mac on sluts because you're in better shape than any guy there and obviously uniform.

It can also depending on unit, be the worst job in the world. Long hours of none stop bullshit, lots of overtime because your command is shit, maybe zero deployments and stuck behind a desk.

I highly recommend going for any special operations support battalion, all the benefits of being in a non conventional unit, none of the bullshit of big army.

Like being yelled at by a squad leader who isn't any older than you, that shit only happens in infantry units with try hards.

If you graduated college then why not get a carreer with that degree? Did you get memed into business or accounting or one of those over saturated fields?

Depends on the job really. You can have one that's fit and another that's shit

What's your view on Army Rangers?

i was going to say, that sounds perfect

That's what I was thinking... I'm just not sure what a naval officer does.

CS

So your experience is army (enlisted?)?

ty user for the information

Job markets are shit for a lot of formerly GOAT degrees m8

Last week I met up with 10 people that I graduated with from chemical engineering, all of us unemployed

Make your own gym :)

Im in national guard Haven't gone to boot camp but I do monthly drill, if you fail the pt test they punish you with more pt, 2 min pushup 2 min situps and 2 mile run within 17 min. I don't mind getting yelled at I don't like the pt nagging tho, all in all its pretty fun.

Pretty cool most the time, held to an above average physical standard.
Once you get past that and land nav graduation rate is pretty easy, they only do what every unit should do which is test you on basic soldiering skills.
benning.army.mil/infantry/ARTB/
I mean land nav 12% fail rate wtf.

I only ever really had an issue with 82nd people, not the young guys. Had a lot of friends over in 82 who were specialist below.
Fucking corporals and sgts though were douche bags for the sake of being so.
In my unit we had specialist as squad leaders or ATLs and often times sgts as team leaders. They have it one step down, can't even be a squad leader until you're an NCO or SPCP.

Yep yep sorry.
jul2008-jul2013, 2 long term deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, 4 supporting missions in Haiti, Korea, Somalia, Qatar.
Technician, job was to go to fobs and fix stuff, that's all I did the entire time deployed. Just grab a helicopter and go to x for 2 months, grab a convoy to y. repeat until my job was done.

Surely you could atleast be a code monkey for some company who isn't outsourcing form india or china yet?

Dang that's rough.

At least you lads will be officers or get some higher rank in the military right? since you finished your degrees and all?

What's Naval Officer life like? Is it difficult? Boring?

I really want to go this route.
Going to start uni soon. Probably going to go with the Navy officer program.

I don't know much about the military but yeah, if you have a degree and go in that direction they will consider you valuable and give you a comfy position.

Personally I'm trying to become a police officer and same thing, they'll value the fact that I have a degree and in 4 years I'll make over 100 grand. Anyone in this thread complaining about a boring job needs to realize they're lucky to have one.

What do officers actually do though? I ask because I'm considering it also

Air Force here m8. Since you have your degree talk with a recruiter about commissioning. Don't go enlisted, wayyy less pay. As an officer you won't be in a technical position like a new enlisted would be.

I'm in comm so for the most part not a Veeky Forums job but there are exceptions. Honestly it has been decision for me

Enlisted here, I'll gladly trade you pay.

Just like us

Yes. Infantry. Commonwealth, non-US.

coronado bay or quantico

and wage slavery isn't? OP already blew his business startup money on college.

not him but IMO if you're that motivated you're most likely going to get more combat training and experience in the USMC infantry. but hey if you like leading lesser warriors go ranger.

>Honestly it has been decision for me

wat

>Yep yep sorry.

No need to be sorry, ty user.

If you had a degree and could go back what would your (military) path have been?

Why so much hate?
Ty for the info

Words are hard. Meant to say "honestly it has been the best decision for me"

ty user

Aren't you a grill?

This is wrong. You will only become an officer if you go to officer training. Since you have a degree already, that would have to be OCS. You will not be made an officer unless that is in your contract.

The fitness standards are laughable, so you have the definite potential to still be a fat piece of shit. On the other hand, you are typically required to workout 5 times a week, which is often cardio or body weight stuff. At the same time you have free access to pretty well-stocked gyms at any time of the day, so you can always work in your weight lifting.

tl;dr You can be fit in the military if you want to be.

Also, I totally recognize the field from that picture. It is at Eglin AFB in Florida. Spent 9 awesome months there.

Army Reserve Officer here.
The honest answer is, until you reach O-3, officers basically don't do anything. But i'll tell you what, nominally, we do:
Officers plan training and operations, as well as manage the careers of the soldiers in their unit. We dictate the unit'so climate, so we are in control of its general approach to carrying out its duties. We are the leaders, so any shortcomings fall squarely on our shoulders. We are accountable for everything that the unit succeeds or fails to do, so we have to promote a climate in which the mission gets fucking done. This generally means taking care of soldiers, so a good officer is compassionate and empathetic, but also mission-oriented.
It can be very rewarding if you take pride in what you do (which you damn well better if you're an officer)

Fun fact: ~1/5 of all domestic violence can be claimed by military personnel in America.

Also, SEALS are shitheaded glory hunters. If you weren't, you wouldn't be a SEAL.

"Enlisted here, sir..."

Seriously though, I make 3000 a month, more or less, with my butterbar. My First Sergeant makes almost twice what I do.

so just be a wagecuck in the corporate world instead

>4 year degree gripes about pay of someone that has been in about 18 years

Thanks for playing the stereotype arsebar

Perfect for me

Six years, which is only two more than me.

>six year 1st Sgt

guess how i know you're full of shit

Mandatory military service here, always lift a lot of heavy stuff around, but it always depends in which 'branch' you're working. Wouldn't recommend it tho (at least not im my country).

6 year degree retard. Clearly you didnt go to colloge

*College

so should i be a SEAL

ok :)

>Be me
>Joining Army
>Not shipping out until August
>Early June
>looking for a summer job until I ship
>Apply to grocery store, working in the back carrying boxes
>Interviewer asks me if I'm a student
>No, I just graduated
>Going to college next fall?
>No, joining the army at the end of the summer
>Get a call a couple days later
>"Sorry, the position of carrying boxes takes about 8 weeks of training. By the time you finish your training, you will be gone for the military, so its not worth you even doing it really."
>Still unemployed

>8 weeks training
>for carrying boxes

what kind of bullshit is that?

Lol. Can't tell if elaborate troll or civilian

Anyways, gonna shed some light on Navy life
I commissioned when I graduated with my DPT cuz needed to repay $60,000 in loans
If you are okay with not being able to make plans, this is the life for you.
You have scheduled work days, and your off days are not sacred as 24/7 on call cuz Military needs > Personal needs, so you could work just 3x 12 hour shifts or you could work 20 days in a row, I've done both - no big deal
Despite regular working hours inpatient at the base hospital, there's 2-3 mandatory meetings and conferences weekly on good weeks, sometimes more. These meetings generally last 2-3 hours.
Want vacation? That's cool, that's really cool. Hope you get it approved and hopefully your request isn't denied after approval and you've already booked tickets.

There are benefits, but I value my autonomy, thus only spent the required 4 years active duty for loan repayment.

I'm an army nurse, being fit is required no matter what component you're in though. I mostly do missions in war zones so I've seen my fair share of bullet wound and IED victims, I've been on humanitarian aid missions as well. I'm leaving for 6 months again in early September.

source on pic? image search gives me furniture brochures

>drink and go to strip clubs
>alpha

hahaha this mentality is so pathetic, no wonder you're in the army

It seems like you could wind up doing some pretty cool shit.
m.huffpost.com/us/entry/1711128.html

Would a slightly autistic Beta 25yo friendless virgin have a tough time in the army (or even make it through the first interview)?
I am quite physically fit, have a college degree and some experience with guns, but don't want to get bullied by 18 Chads.
27 is the max. age [in my country] btw.

Why? Like why would he be a jealous little Bitch about you joining the army? Living on campus=Enlisting imo

What's your degree in? Do you think it would be applicable to the military? I know some rejects at my old high school that did join. I was thinking about joining the navy but I'd rather have the college experience.

Why the fuck aren't you using that degree? That's a versatile in demand degree. The only thing you could benefit from the military is their college payback program, which I'm not sure if any other branch besides the navy has that. You're obviously smart so don't join the pissing military unless it's an intel job or you will hate. Nuke sucks ass too. DON'T, for the love of all that is holy, DON'T join the infantry or any other job for that matter besides intel or you WILL hate it and you WILL be surrounded by dumb fucks making you do dumb shit.

You can make a lot of money and climb the ladder with that desu.

you'll be alright

you actually fit the profile of being a good soldier. Keep that college shit to yourself though.

>introvert loner

greetings my friend

>cutting

psych+ neuroscience master (=no jobs ever)
Yes, 'health corps' (officers). But I don't want to do clinical stuff or counseling for obvious reasons even if they form you there.
Thanks m8. I just heard that was precisely the type of stuff they valued so thought it was worth mentioning if it could get me in.

When I got a grocery store job, you learned everything you had to know in 1-2 days and mastered it in a week.

i see. i just wasn't sure i wanted a 9-5 cs job, maybe the money will be worth it afterall.
