just go on a normal hike you fucking hipster

Great for your joints, especially when you run with over 45 lbs. But seriously, there's no reason to ruck if you aren't in the military and being forced to.

Is being 130 pounds over weight a good enough reason?

I cringe every time I see civilians talking about rucking, in the army we had to do weeks of training on how to correctly pack our rucks so that the weight is evenly distributed, not to mention we have extremely good footwear, just loading up a backpack with 25kg and trying to march 13km with no training is a one way ticket to snap city

I used to walk all over fucking creation in the army and it destroyed my knees. Fuck rucking and any faggot who thinks it's cool or hardcore to do.

are loaded military backbacks even heavy to Veeky Forums because 1 pl8 on squat feels like nothing, and half that, 70 pounds must feel like virtually nothing

Rucking blows. That said, it's pretty decent cardio. YMMV. Just be sure to pack the weight in a non-retarded fashion.

dude you'll fucking have knee problems or die.
if you're that much over weight you need to try walking a mile daily and changing your diet before you even consider high impact cardio.

Unless you're in the military or a moderately experienced hiker don't ruck.
Hikers only train because on long hauls they will have all their camping gear.

I was going to try and train for a red card cert (wilderness fire fighter) the test is 3 miles with 45 pounds for 45 minutes.

>Inb4 that's easy fag

I'm not very good at cardio allready, any tips to train?

it's not the weight so much as it is carrying it for miles

10th Mountain has a reputation for being ruck monsters... fucking light infantry, I want my knees back.

>3 miles in 45 minutes with 45 pounds on
>easy
Pick one. Respect, my dude.

>70 pounds must feel like virtually nothing

I can guarantee you'll be one of those idiots who overpacks their first backpacking trip because they've never hauled weight outside a gym.

>my pack's only 80 lbs bro, we need the cauldron for chilo
>LIGHTWEIGHT BABYYYY

I got 0000000000000 hours of training on correctly packing my ruck

Just tips from guys more experienced than me

Then we went rucking

Anyway, you don't know pain until you hear "incoming!"with a 45lb Ruck on your back and 25 pound SAW in your hands, all in 95-100 degree weather

If I wasn't Army I would never ruck. It's not fun. Your arms go numb. Your knees and feet hurt.

It's not even really beneficial in any way

are you implying i have a life and i would go on trips?

Lol I thought the same thing. Like another user said, it's not really the weight - it's about the distance and time. Also how he weight is distributed. It's not just 1pl8 in the ruck. You have tons of different shit.

It's tougher than it seems, but it's all about mental toughness and simply not quitting. If you're a man and you fall out of a ruck I don't respect you at all.

Normally run 5k at 23:59 feeling alright afterwards. Did a 5k with 58 pounds in my backpack today for the first time and barely finished under 30 and was pretty wiped afterwards. I think the weight and fatigue just compounds itself over and over. It's nothing you can't get used to with practice, but for the first time today, I definitely had a hard time.

tump line. cheat code for rucking.

> in the army
here we go
>we had to do weeks of training on how to correctly pack our rucks so that the weight is evenly distributed
false
>we have extremely good footwear,
false. why are you lying on an anonymous cartoon porn imagaboard

When you're a civilian and you want to ruck, you pack your backpack and go walk a few miles on a some pretty flat terrain. Maybe even a park of some sort. After a few miles, you get tired and you pack up and go home, rucking seemed like fun! :)

When you're in the military it's the same, except that when you get tired, you don't get to stop. Instead, some 30 year old PSG with a drinking problem gets in your face and tells you to stop sucking dick for beer money and catch up to the formation or he'll drag you to the fucking woodline :/

then when your'e done you do the rest of your field problem for the next 2 fuckin weeks

>civilians
>army
>good
>training
>extremely
>good
>footwear
Do you want to know why you're talking out of your ass?

>being an actual welfare cunt from reddit
Thank you for your cervix.
>:)
neck yourself

Yeh I ruck, my backpack is full of shit to where it sticks out and pushes my back in, luckily I lift

>this is why I lift meme, checkout my abs keeping my straight stance in college while walking, meanwhile all the girls lean forward because shits too heavy

>look guys, I posted it! Hahaha, boy they sure are going to screenshot this one

>literally walking (cardio) + adding weight
>do you want to kill your gains user?

Rucking is absolutely useless and not beneficial what so ever.

POG here, I'm gonna be in a fucking vehicle 24/7. No reason why I should carry 50 lbs of shit all day for 12 miles.

Even in a real combat scenario, you have an assault pack at most.

>he doesn't swim

10/10 best cardio. 0 chance of fucking up your joints

If you're 130 overweight, you want to start lowering your cal intake and taking brisk walks. Normal weighted people have a hard time doing it, and they can normally walk more than 18 min before getting winded.

RIP shoulders

Aren't assault packs usually 30-50lb, while rucksacks are more like 60-80?

I had to listen to an army buddy talk about this for an entire day once while camping.

All bullshit.

Army vet with two blown out knees, fuck ruck marching.

Wanna go innawoods? Get a good pair of "broken in" at least ankle high boots, and a camelbak, enjoy hiking like normal civvies. Fuck ruck marches.

don't you immediately drop your pack when you come under fire?

lol no way, assuming mild season (worst case rain equalling poncho and a few changes of under clothing) I'd be traveling incredibly light.
>poncho
>x2 all undergarments
>another 7 magazines ammo loaded
>field stripped mre(s)
>SKL
>translation book
>porno
>water bladder
>possibly wobbie blanket
>cam recording gear
>mbitr radio battery
shit's barely anything.
I could almost live out of my assault pack when I was in the army, let alone a rucksack.
All I added to my ruck was an extra pair of boots, a sleeping back, and more undergarments usually. Sometimes service manuals for equipment because I was a technician, maybe a notebook because you get bored and want to write something down.
We always had to add insane weight to our ruck marchers that was not accurate to what you'd carry.

Go to ranger school you get to hear that shit all the time..loved every minute

Rucking sucks ass you fucking poolee

Don't do it. I had to do it for 4 years and despite taking every precaution I still alternate icing and heating my knees every single night.

If I don't I can barely walk much less lift the next day. The body isn't designed to haul heavy weights for long distances and still live a long functional life.

That just basically means your body already has its own built-in rucksack, and you carry it with you everywhere you go.

The best exercise for you, honestly, just walk. Just walk right out your front door, and keep going. Anywhere.

It's not that they are all that heavy, it's just that you have it on you for several hours at a time. Uphill, both ways, and all that.

Also, the ruck itself isn't 70 pounds. That's also counting your vest, plates, weapon, helmet, etc.

Just walk. I walk like two hours every night. It's helping to get me in shape, along with diet and working out. Get a pair of headphones, go out, and just walk. Maybe try to loop the same large area over and over, to get yourself used to the environment. Then it's easier to just walk and think about whatever. Also, if your phone has a pedometer, check it (IOS has the Health app, Android has the Fit app) and walk till you hit 20,000 every day.

Fuck that shit guy. Take it from a 24 year old guy looking at oncoming arthritis in both knees: Ignore that stupid dick measuring rucking nonsense. No amount of training will be able to prepare a human body against suddenly weighing minimum 2x it's normal weight under prolonged workload.

You want to ruck/hike? Get comfy shoes/boots and good socks. Start extremely light and don't go more than 60% your body weight. There's a reason you never see sf types lugging all that shit around...

This. I've never rucked, I've backpacked short hikes which I imagine is like rucking bitch mode?
When I hike (depending on the situation obviously) it's normally in a blown out pair of converse that way essentially nothing. And I bring almost nothing. If I'm going real far I'll bring a backpack with a sandwich and water.
If you try to do more than that you're gonna have a bad time. Boots are good if you plan on going off the path or anywhere near mud, though cons drain better.
Carrying heavy weight while hiking is a good way to make yourself sore and miserable with no gain at all.

It's fucking stupid and you're just asking for your back to be fucked. The human body didn't evolve to carry heavy loads off the back and run for miles with it.

Depends dude. A fucking dog face light infantry pack is going to be retard heavy. Expect to weigh at least twice your normal bodyweight.

youtube.com/watch?v=w846UcmIo5o

You need to average 4mph. That's a fast walk.

>twice your bodyweight
weakest guy falls out within 500m of the sp and the mission is canceled

My tip is start running then when you can run 3 miles in 30-40 mins carry a 5-10kg bag then start running when you can do that in 30-40mins put another 5-10kg in and reach run the 3 miles under 45 mins

Try span each out for two weeks try get atleast 3 runs a week and when confident run more in the week but when running with the pack limit it to three to four times a week

Don't forget to eat well and sleep

Lift light on off days (by light I mean 60-70%) of your max

>going on a stomp for fun

why

Do not go running, bike or swim.

>Rucking back in basic
>Everyone is watching their step because the slightest misstep = rip ankle
>Best buddy rolled his ankle and ended up in crutches for half a year

3 miles in 45 minutes is easy
Normla PT, 630-745, 55 minutes. Usual ruck PT was 4 miles with 45 pounds.

It sucks...but its not that much effort.

Now you wanna talk about sapper school, ranger school....doing 12 miles in 3 hours with 70-80 lbs.....wewlad

Even air assault does a 3 hour 12 miler, but i dont know what their carry load is like.

Never was in 10 mtn but everyone i knew from 10th mtn was hard as a fuck

12 miles 3 hours is army standard with 45lb Ruck

Everyone in the army should be able to meet that standard. Most females cannot.

Most males can through sheer will power

Most difficult part is mind going blank, thinking what's the fucking point I should just quit.. Why am I even doing this stupid bullshit we're all gonna die anyway and I'm just walking a long time with this stupid ass heavy fucking pack someone just kill me

Fuck ruck marches. The Marine Corps stole my back and knees. Fuck 80 lbs pack with M4 and M9, flak with plates, and a kevlar, plus fuckin humping rounds. Nope. Never again willingly. Only reason I drank water on hikes was because I knew my pack would be lighter.

I found my best hope was to watch the dude in front of me's feet and get sort of "hypnotized" and lost. If i cant blank out im...

>not gunna make it

I just think "one more step, one more step, one more step...."

I try to day dream about girls I've previously fucked and the feeling of boobs in my hands but I always end up thinking "one more step, one....."

youtube.com/watch?v=yGkyhaMdpto

Rucking was the one thing i hated more than anything when i did my service. Fuck that shit, the foot pain alone is something i never wish to experience afain

Wtf is this

The only people that should actually be rucking are grunts and secret squirrel types, and neither of those groups need advice on the topic from Veeky Forums.

I used to ruck for exercise when I was in, but after separating I never did it. It fucked up my spine real nice tho.

Finland here, did my service in finnish border rangers (LRRP so basically only moving on feet) and I can tell you it is heavy to carry because of the distance and time. When you have 35-40kg in rucksack, around 5kg of shit in chestrig and pockets and 6kg sako trg rifle in hands its not fun to walk 80-120 kilometers in hilly forests.
